we had 500,000+ lost in November alone.. I think 1 million is way too low, we could hit that by February at this rate.
Obama has a lot of work to do just to get things out of the depression, and the best he (and we) can hope for in 2009 is a deep recession IMHO.

Hey, Chris! I thought of you the last couple of days when I saw 3 or 4 vehicles from Maine down here in NC. We almost never see those plates, but I also learned last night that NC is in the top 5 states that are growing--and lots of it is from transplants. Please tell people we have lots of unemployment down here, too! In this county, where I saw the vehicles, it's 8.5% already...of course, they might have been just visiting family already moved down here, too. In the current economic environment, it's hard to tell where people will wind up.

I was amazed to hear Mad Jim Cramer really giving it to Bob Rubin and Henry Paulson on Hardball last night regarding the financial bailout and how taxpayers are being so screwed by them.
(In case anyone forgets, both are apologists for the excesses of both their own firm, Goldman Sachs, and the rest of Wall St.)
Anyone who believes that the unemployed, the people on fixed incomes, the underemployed, as well as the over-extended employed, will begin spending again any time soon is just a pollyanna. Remember the old dictum, "You can't get blood out of a turnip?" It's going to prevail for the next few years since the spending power of the masses has been usurped by the greedheads on Wall St.

Challenger's an a-hole. In good times, he predicts job losses; in bad times, he predicts job losses. The glass is always half-empty for him when it lets him get quoted in another news story. That said, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

This is not your father's recession. This is much worse. What numbers have to be in play before we speak truth and call this a depression?

That's right - now that Obama has chosen Rick Warren, it proves that his entire presidency has been an abject failure. It's signed, sealed, and delivered. The Rick Warren choice has doomed Iraq, the economy, global warming, everything! Pack up and move to Canada now - avoid the long lines!!!!!

Obama was quietly hiring militarists and neoliberals early in the campaign (in primaries) so I'm not surprised. But I am still disappointed. We're all going to suffer for it.

Well the economy is not looking good, but the time 2013 gets here the whole country will be in major debt, but hopefully with a good outlook.
