AMERICAblog: 52% of evangelicals who voted for McCain think Obama is or was a Muslim

Apparently Real America aka Realmerica is a sort of fantasy land construct that believes in mystical wardrobes, Jesus lions, and secret Muslims. I wish they also asked these people if they were also offended/scared by Jeremiah Wright and his extreeeeeeeme black Christianity. I'm betting all were.

They are taught stuff like this every Sunday and in their own media, and also not to believe any other media. Somehow, some way, without screams of persecution, churches that violate law with endorsements, both overt and covert, must lose their tax exempt status.

I think a lot of the problem is home schooling. basically the blind leading the blind. You don't need to know much if it is all God''s plan. You just want to make sure you function enough to get by until you are called.

I just got an in-your-face, up-close and personal example of why I am disgusted with republicans and anyone who claims to be a believer of god.
An old black woman just walked into our office off the street, clearly not completely sane, and demanded a job. She said that “now that Borak Osama was in charge, she deserved one”. She hung around for a little while amusing a couple of my co-workers on a rant.
After she finally left, my dear christian and mormon co-workers laughed it up making fun of her and telling me “this is what’s out there now. You’ll see them everywhere after this.”
Now, forgetting for a moment any iota of partisan politics, this woman was clearly insane, or at least off her meds, and the people that claimed to be godly threw her out into the street because she was black and invoked the name of the new president. I don’t call that godly. I call that pathetic. I call that sad. Is this what our national melting pot is going to turn into now? The racists have free reign to impugn anything they see as “other” with no consideration for “some” human beings?
When I asked said co-workers if they ever considered calling someone to come and help her, they laughed. They said I should feel free. That is was (sarcastically) MY duty. So I did. I called 911 and told them what happened. When they asked me what she looked like, I couldn’t tell them because I hadn’t seen her, I just heard her in the other room. I started to cry because I wanted so badly to tell them that the people who had seen her didn’t give a shit to call themselves. They’re coming by to talk to the co-workers, and I can’t stop shaking because I’m so angry/frustrated/disappointed/disheartened. So I wrote this.
Thank you for listening.

I'm sure they'll get their just rewards in "heaven." I wish I could believe in such nonsense but these people are never punished for their actions and never see themselves as bad people. Getting a laugh at the expense of an obviously disturbed person seems pretty low to me. I wish you would have pointed out just how christian they were acting and rubbed their collective noses in it. Who knows, that person could have been "Jesus" in disguise just checking up on how his folks are doing. ;-)

I was baffled by this Muslim stuff until I discovered that the people who think he is Muslim, don't actually know what a Muslim is. They think that " Muslim" describes ethnicity. A sort of synonym for Arabic. So, in the mind of an idiot like this, there is no contradiction. It is perfectly possible to be both Christian and Muslim.
Butch1

When I was in basic training many years ago, we were taught that the Vietnamese were "gooks" and called other vile names meant to diminish them into a less human status which made them easier to kill when we got to 'Nam. This is no different trying to reduce persons of a different faith in being less religious or human if you will, than they are. It makes it easier to hate them and blame every one of their fears on them. They do the same things to gays and lesbians. To blame what will become of their marriages if we are allowed to have them is illogical at best.

That is outstanding idea. We can sell them Anti-Muslim relics to protect them against the evil Obama perpetrating another 9/11 on the nation. Must have at least one in every office in buildings like the Sears Tower or Empire State Building to prevent a repeat of the 9/11 attack on those iconic American buildings. Also need them on our warships, as well as crosses, pictures of Jesus, magical Christian "Diamond" rings, blessed watches, even holy food, holy clothing, holy shoes, holy umbrellas, etc. that will save them from the murderous, evil, hateful Muslims.
On second thought that will simply perpetrate the idea that Muslims are the evil that they must be protected from by killing all Muslims and anyone who is different enough to be threatening. Must be afraid. Must buy holy rifles and holy bullets so we can kill Muslims to protect our families and our children. Must pre-emptively kill them before they kill us. Yeah, the idea of exploiting their stupidity is funny until you realize that you are just feeding into their hatred. This is precisely what Bush did for 8 years and made trillions for the military-industrial complex to say nothing of the money that lined his own pockets..

The reason evangelicals so blindly base their beliefs on faith is because they are too stupid to recognize how ignorant they are and too simple-minded to care. The idea that there are people in America who are so stupid and lazy that simply lying to them will earn their votes is incomprehensible to rational functioning human beings. Anyone in this country who believes that Obama is a Muslim with so much factual evidence available to the contrary is a brain dead moron.
1000turtles

What disturbs me far more than these individuals thinking that Obama is or was Muslim is that they think of "Muslim" as a derogatory term--linked to terrorism, degeneracy, and evil. I find it equally problematic that *our* response tends to be to explain that he ISN'T Muslim, rather than to explain why, even if he were, it shouldn't be an issue.
Colin Powell and John Stewart seem to be about the only people out there with a wide-reaching voice who have made this point.

Sen. McConnell: Mr. President, are you now or have you ever been a member of the Islamabad faith?
Pres. Obama: (laughs) Uh, no
Sen. Graham: What I think my colleague is trying to ask is , have you ever ridden a camel?
Pres. Obama: What?
Sen. Hatch: Please answer the question, are you a raghead or not?
Pres. Obama: (motions wildly)
Sen. Reid: I have to decline to speak to this issue as I haven't a clue what the mans religion is.
Sen. Lott: And that is the point now, isn't it? I keep hearing the President call himself a Christian but I have yet to see the proof.

A BBC radio presenter who asked a taxi firm not to send a Asian driver has been sacked. Sam Mason made the comments while ordering a taxi for her 14-year-old daughter who she said would be “freaked out” by a turban-wearing driver. The taxi operator routinely records messages in case of complaints and later passed a transcript of the conversation on to The Sun, who subsequently contacted the BBC. Mason, who took over BBC Radio Bristol weekday afternoon programme six weeks ago, was initially suspended on Friday over her comments, before being informed by station bosses on Saturday that she would no longer be working for the BBC.

I still have a problem with organized religion; however, I have to say that at least the "Obama-gelicals" have successfully reconciled their faith with reality and put their beliefs in perspective that does not take the Bible literally.
The McCain Evangelicals are just plain dumb and insane. Above all, abortion ranks higher than anything else including homelessness, poverty, and the economy. It's hard to believe that they still believe Obama is a muslim, unless of course, Rush Bimbo told his audience he is and I've actually heard him say it. Rather, I think these religious hate nuts just don't want a black man to be president or anything else but a slave.

There are many people, considered to be well educated, who fall under the spell of religious goofiness and bigotry.
Ron Paul, a person of change to many, a well educated man, is one of them and he stands in the ranks of the religious right. He wants to blur or eliminate the line between church and state, he also favors teaching creationism and he puts extreme religious ideology above evolutionary science.

I'm going to safely assume a good chunk of that 52% doesn't REALLY think Obama is or was a Muslim. Even hard-core racists occasionally have the presence of mind to realize some people that they have to deal with on occasion don't particularly dig racism. They'd rather say "Obama's a Muslim" and be thought of as an idiot, then say "Obama's a n****r" and be thought of as a racist. Idiots are pitied. Racists are hated.
I know, I don't get it either. If you're gonna be a racist, might as well own it, try to get people to agree with you, and know who's on your side. But I guess it's like gay people who are in the closet. They don't want to deal with the judgment, or they think it could affect them amongst their friends or their family or in their jobs. So hide it and hope for kindred spirits.
However, I'm sure some of those 52% are, indeed, just that dumb.

Even more sad is what in the world is wrong being Muslim, or Jewish, or Hindu or any other religion besides a Christian? Freedom of religion would mean all of them, not just the Christians. What about the atheists? Don't they have a right to not be harassed by these crazy funda-"Mentalists"? There are many persons of the Islamic faith in this country who are kinder to others than these bible-thumping, spittle-spewing throwbacks. Their ignorance never ceases to amaze me. The point many people are missing is they do not want to be educated with the real facts; they prefer going along in their blind rage hurting others along the way all in the name of their "god". There is no difference between them and the Taliban and I think we need to stop trying to be fair and courteous to them and let them off the hook by saying that their religion teaches this to them. They hide their huge bottomless pit of bigotry behind their religion because it's safe to do so. One complains about them and they pine about being attacked for their religious beliefs. Enough, they want a religious war and they will get one. They need to be exposed for what they really are and that is an ignorant, stupid bunch of bigoted folks who will not be happy until they get their way and that means eliminating us.

ANYWHERE they want to look for information, they'd find out that Obama is a Christian... one of them, or at least a hateless version of them.
so... this is where the phrase "fear the black man" comes into play. they feel a bit sleazy just coming out and admitting it... so they skirt the issue.
there's no way 50% believe he is or was a Muslim... they just don't want to admit they're bigots.
of course, there's also the bigotry toward Muslim people implied here... but that's okay in the good 'ol U S of A.

Evangelicals are the Taliban of Christianity. Brain washed morons, spreading hatred against 1.6 billion Muslims & Islam, ill informed and mostly uneducated (even those educated have closed minds and behave like duffers).
Just like the Taliban are a drag on Islam and are hated by a vast majority of Muslims for their extreme views, Evangelicals are a drain on Christianity and the unfortunate side of America, which is otherwise a great nation.
Like the Taliban they are a minority and due to their twisted beliefs try to impose their views on the majority. It is time the silent majority stood up and told them exactly how they feel about them.

Sorry, but are Evangelicals known for their reverence for facts? They believe in invisible creatures called angels and demons. They believe that the Earth was created in 7 days. They believe that every species of animal, including dinosaurs, survived a world-wide flood by riding together on a boat. They daily talk with an unseen man who, if he lived at all, died thousands of years ago. If they believe Obama is or was a Muslim, are we surprised? Do we think there is anything we can do to change their minds? Might as well try to tell them that Iraq wasn't behind 9/11. All we can do is vote against them and vote more funds for basic education so that maybe their children will learn to use their brains.

Sorry if this idea has previously been floated--the propensity for hard-core right-wing evangelicals to dismiss facts in favor of hoary myths they rationalize as "faith" is basically the same tack taken by many Middle-Eastern Islamic countries, and it is largely responsible for their modern reputation as intellectual and economic backwaters. In fact, if it wasn't for oil and gas reserves, many of these countries--whose governments are mired in corruption and dealmaking with fundamentalist clerics--would be basically in the same position as Egypt, where millions are trapped in poverty and ignorance while a tiny minority calls the shots. And this is exactly what will happen if the evangelicals take over our government. We would suffer a theocracy that would imprison doubters and dissidents, put women into "pioneer" clothing, and treat children as property.
That ain't gonna happen if I have anything to do with it.

I'm so glad I found this site! At last, people like me. I know why evangelical christians are so cruel and mean spirited. They've been identified as "Right Wing Authoritarians" by this psychology professor in Canada. You can read his book "The Authoritarians" for free at http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~altemey/. The book can be downloaded for FREE in it's PDF format. Altemeyer identifies them as more prejudice than most people and completely oblivious to their hatred. It's a fascinating read. I WISH THE PRESS WOULD COVER IT MORE because it's really important to identify this toxic segment of our society.

Sen. Reid: I have to decline to speak to this issue as I haven't a clue what the mans religion is.
Sen. Lott: And that is the point now, isn't it? I keep hearing the President call himself a Christian but I have yet to see the proof.
Republican side of Senate panel: ( YAY!!!!)
Pres. Obama: Sgt at Arms! Arrest these fools!
(he hasn't been a senator for 2 years, he's now a lobbyist... with possible legal problems)
he made about three calls to her cell phone before the election, trying to talk her out of voting for Obama..
She was going to send a bottle of expensive champagne to his office after the election, to celebrate Obama's win (not positive if she did or not... probably though) :-)
wish I could've seen the look on "Uncle Trent's" face.
oh, this is also the woman that performed the wedding ceremony for me and my Husband.
I'd love to be on the extension phone when she tells "Uncle Trent" that one.
I often like to order stuff from these organizations to spend their resources, keeps it from falling into the hands of the truly gullible.

Because that is how they make their money.
Oh...you said Muslim.
Never mind.
None of it makes any sense to me but they don't operate on logic.

Now I get it!!
if his poll numbers go down enough, nobody will WANT to know where he is after January of next year... which gives him time to get out of the country before the charges are brought in the Hauge.
Then, you can swallow water and eat a fileted herring by holding its tail and dropping it into your mouth...it soothes the throat.
Just thought you'd like to know!
BBC presenter sacked for demanding non-Asian driver
By John Matthew Hall
Tuesday, 11 November 2008
I thought I could hear her head explode when my husband informed her that Michelle (First Lady) hugged my son at the Pensacola rally !
The ignorant sister spewing this nonsense has a half black kid she gave up for adoption years ago and she's a NURSE who grew up on WELFARE in the PROJECTS of Newport RI.
My husband can't believe what she and his other 2 sisters have become since moving to Jacksonville FL. He doesn't recognize them any longer.
Of course, she goes to CHURCH every sunday with one of the other sisters. They all live less than 4 miles from each other.
I'm glad we live 6 hours away!!!
Ron Paul, a person of change to many, a well educated man, is one of them and he stands in the ranks of the religious right. He wants to blur or eliminate the line between church and state, he also favors teaching creationism and he puts extreme religious ideology above evolutionary science.
However, I'm sure some of those 52% are, indeed, just that dumb.
actually, no. what bigots.
ANYWHERE they want to look for information, they'd find out that Obama is a Christian... one of them, or at least a hateless version of them.
so... this is where the phrase "fear the black man" comes into play. they feel a bit sleazy just coming out and admitting it... so they skirt the issue.
there's no way 50% believe he is or was a Muslim... they just don't want to admit they're bigots.
of course, there's also the bigotry toward Muslim people implied here... but that's okay in the good 'ol U S of A.
egad. What Colon Powell said is entirely correct... no, Obama isn't a Muslim.... but why does that matter?
The letters to the editor are a treasure trove of human kindness. Not...
you're right, they have no problem being public bigots on here... but next time, try to get a name or phone number out of them, even maybe suggest they email it to you so they don't have to post it online.
see how well that works. nope, they're the kind that like yelling 'die faggot!' out the window of a car doing 50mph... no consequences, no guilt.
We have some absolute morons flying confederate flags in their yards. They say they are protesting. Making the public aware of the danger an Obama presidency brings with it, doncha know?
Any notions I ever held about gun control in the past have been long displaced by the need to defend myself and mine against well-armed evangelical psychopaths in our midst.
I know these people. They live here. My kids go to school with their kids. Ugh.
What's that? He's a SECRET Muslim? Riiiiiggghht....
F**kin' idiots. This is why I gave up on organized religion 30 years ago and been a better person for it since. I actively avoid those who proclaim themselves Christians. Their words mean nothing; I judge by actions.
That ain't gonna happen if I have anything to do with it.
to meet Jesus IN PERSON just as soon as humanly
possible.
they are making a Hell on Earth for all normal people,
aren't they?
I'm not defending anyone here, but there is no facts to backup the claim that "52% of evangelicals who voted for McCain think Obama is or was a Muslim."
