Online polls really don't mean anything. There is nothing scientific or accurate about them.
I'm getting tired of the little typos that seem to creep into your posts, John, and into Digby's, and others.
The little typos that confuse the whole situation, like here where your text reads --
" . . . it strongly suggests that the information his surgeons gave them cause for concern. The steps they took were are common unless there is a real concern about the possibility of spread at the time of biopsy. "
[my bolds]
Are the steps common, or not? " . . . were are common. . . ?" What the heck does this mean? Did you type it this way, or copy it, or transcribe it, or did something happen to it on the way from you to us?
This happens all the time. A statement from Mark Kleiman about Palin's Alaska admin. killing a bill to divest from Darfur winds up reading "bill the bill" on Mark Kleiman's blog . There are so many instances on blogs where the crucial little bit of text gets mangled like this. What the heck is the deal? Sloppiness? Or what?

Can we please stop this? McCain might die tomorrow or he might outlive his mother, who is already as old as Methuselah. The real problem with the McCain Palin ticket is this: whoever is president, they will have their policies determined by insane neoconservatives that want to lead us to Armageddon. We'll be bomb, bomb, bombing Iran regardless of which one of these freaks is in power. As an Exxon-Mobil shareholder, I'm all for it. But as a human being, I will do everything in my power to stop it. And yes, the Exxon Mobil stock is a hedge. If the world goes crazy, at least I'll profit from it. But I'd really prefer to lose money on that stock. Because we all win if Exxon Mobil loses.

It is just another reason to oppose the human time bomb known as McCain.
Here are my 'Tin Foil Hat' two cents.... looking at the four facts... they aren't much but... 1) the skin cancer 2) his desperate need to be President 3) the manner he chose his VP 4) the type of religious person who Palin is....
If I were a investigative reporter, I would look at who has been around the McCain camp of late... which religious figure? or political/religious type .... and what if McCain knew his time was short... why would he pick Palin? Unless he had the okay of someone of that religious stripe who would back him to the White House....
I look at Palin as payment for a 'Certain' support and not as something that titillated an old worn out mindless man. As dumb as she is, she is someone else's pawn.
Now, enough of all of that. This stuff makes my dreams horrible. I am going to watch the bugs chew....

Of equal if not more significance is the question of his mental health. NO ONE but NO ONE takes congnizance of the fact that most former POWs suffer from PTSD. In McCain's case, the length and severity of internment would place him in a very high risk category for PTSD. Having worked for the VA for over 30 years I can attest to the fact that McCain likely has significant mental health issues resulting from his experiences. His mental health status would be a real question from day one as opposed to a possible recurrence of metastasis from melanoma at some future time.

My mother in law's shrink told her McCain is showing signs of dementia and the whole psych community is buzzing about it.

A very long but interesting article written by an actual melanoma survivor regarding McCain's oddly poor choice of lesion prevention here: http://www.counterpunch.org/mckenna07102008.html
A bit of background and links to and about the NYT story here: http://rawstory.com/news/2008/NYT_Few_mention_M...
This one is interesting, provoked by the plethora of science-blind posts everywhere, but I don't think it takes into account the satellite lesion data fully and thus miscategorizes the cancer stage: http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2008/09/john_...
- with a direct link to armchair diagnosis of his ptosis (sorry for the rhyme) http://www.theness.com/neurologicablog/?p=386
And, as posted here before, a call to and from Doctors with lots of current info: http://onlyoneheartbeataway.com/document.html
