who knew Gary Glitter was a POW too! haaaaaaahahahahahaha

    "Saturday, August 23, 2008
The McCain campaign keeps emphasizing that McCain was a prisoner in
Vietnam, as proof of his qualification for the Presidency.

Well, so was Gary Glitter, and I'm not voting for him either.

These things are always so scripted it's hard to get too fired up about conventions any more.

That said, this one is so important as a kick-off to such an imporant election season. That and the fact that the polls seem so disappointing lately has given me a stomachache for the past week...

Keep sending the updates, John. Help keep that fear at bay.

Good to see Sam Sedar. I like him. He has a great wit.

    John/Joe....Any news about key rings?

John, Are you going to host a get together for Denver area ABloggers someplace during the DNC?
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
We'd love to - any thoughts where?
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
How about the Corner Bakery at the end of the 16th Mall. It's not too far from the BIg Tent. There are two of these, the one I am talking about is on or around Wazee.

Peaches are you going downtown? Can we get together?

Networking! There's nothing like it. Remind me to tell you the story of how I phoned an 800 government number back in the day to ask a question about an immigration issue and got transferred to a secretary who transferred me to a secretary who transferred me to a constulant who transfered me to "Janet." Ms Reno solved the problem in about 7 seconds.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
    Definitely email me that story

You Can't Be President: The Outrageous Barriers to Democracy in America, John R. MacArthur

One agrument in the book is that not only is there little difference between Obama and Clinton, but between them and McCain. The real fight between Obama and the Clintons is over control of the DNC as essentially it is currently Clinton territory. However, Howard Dean is muscling and and Obama is part of the Dean click. To retain control apparently requires the Clintons to undermine Obama.

MacArthur was on Amy Goodman's Democracy Now this morning and I think this was the gist of MacArthur's argument why the Clintons don't and won't support Obama. It's all about power, but more complex than just that Obama took the nomination from Hillary.

Well so much for John Rick MacArthur’s insinuations that Hillary and McCain were cooperating in Obama’s defeat. If McCain had kept his mouth shut until after the convention, it might have held water, but McCain put out ads trying to entice Hillary supporters into voting for McCain rather than Obama. This forced Hillary to respond and call on her supporters to be loyal Democrats and support Obama.

Hillary was supposed to speak at the convention this morning but she did not. Wonder if her having to attack McCain and ask her supporters to back Obama had anything to do with her withdrawing from speaking this morning.

I think McCain made a major boo-boo. If there was anything between McCain and Hillary, it must have been unspoken. McCain strikes me as a rival to George Bush for the dunce of the century. Naw! If anything, McCain clearly intends to hold the title all by himself. I suspect that Hillary was holding out to undermine Obama, but expected cooperation from McCain and McCain was too dumb to do his part. Not that she wouldn’t try to cut apart McCain in 2012. Treachery so thick you would think it was a London Pea Soup Fog

Yes, please report on any Rachel Maddow sightings and answer the burning question : now that she is a big deal cable tv show host, does she still dress like a first grader?
A great gift for my daughters 17th birthday would be a picture of Rachel holding up a "Hi Rose" sign!

I am a disappointed. I live in Denver and NOT ONE major blogger has set up any type of get together with ordinary people. Apparently you need passes to the BIG TENT where many well known bloggers have set up shop and those passes are like UNAVAILABLE. So if you follow any of the major blogs you are just SOL for meeting the owners. You know little guys like us help your blogs but for some reason the little guys are frozen out. The best "free" and available event I have found is the MSNBC stage behind Union Station. Met Chris Matthews yesterday and was surprised at how friendly and accessible he was. After the show he walked among the crowd shaking hands, answering questions and generally being a nice guy. Hoping to met Keith Olberman tonight.

I cringe when watching Matthews sometimes but there's just something about him that I like. Russert gave me the creeps. I hope you get to meet the O man!

Looks like you all are having a good time! I envy you as I sit at my desk in my own little corner. Anyway I searching (with headphones on, of course) and watching just about any and everything that is going on there. Who knows, may the Neo-Cons will have their next convention here in Las Vegas, Sin City. It would be the perfect setting for those ones. It certainly wouldn't be a contradiction to their "values". Plus I work in criminal court for Las Vegas. What a book that would be. Well anywho, HAVE A GREAT TIME and keep sending the pics!
