AMERICAblog: A week after DNC took FL's delegates away, Michigan gov. signs law moving their primary up too

  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
John, this is very true. Thanks for the great information too. The rule of law has to apply, or it all falls apart.

i agree 100% that Michigan and Florida both broke the rules and should pay the price this time. But why couldn't the primary rules be changed going forward so that other states could have a shot at early primaries. Why do Iowa and New Hampshire keep getting priority? Seems a rules change would prevent this same thing happening over and over and would be more fair.

Yeah, they should have a rotating system.

Though, you know, even Hillary spoke for the "integrity" of Iowa, NH, NV and SC being first.

Bush Bites - I missed your reply, same argument, why not a revolving system. What the hell does integrity got to do with this? I'd like to hear one "logical" reason why a revolving system is inferior to having Iowans always go first. I can't think of a single one.

tlsintx - you bring up an excellent point I haven't heard brought up before. What makes Iowa so special (besides their great corn)? Why not have a revolving system, independent of delegate counts? If Ohio and Calif were last this year Obama might have won them, etc.

So good point. Why is all of this in stone? Is it because we'll piss off Iowans?

Gov. Granholm was nuts to allow Michigan to move their primary date. I do find myself wondering if the Clintons had any hand in this... wanting Michiganders to vote early since it was her kind of demographic... Just wondering out loud.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
No, the Clintons were hard core against letting Michigan do it and Hillary stacked the DNC with her sympathizers.

She only wanted to count Michigan after she found out she was going to need them to get anywhere close to Obama.

    She flip-flopped, basically.

Then I don't understand why Hillary didn't remove her name from the ballot, like Edwards, Obama, and Richardson did...

My immediate concern in all of this will be the reaction of Sen. Levin if all of the MI delegates are not seated with full voting right. He is threating to take this the credentials committee, which will only further delay this already drawn out drama.

This pretense of passive victim status can go F**K Itself.

    Sen. Levin needs to chill.

Correction on #2: Michigan was absolutely CERTAIN that, because it is a "swing state" there'd be no way in Hell the DNC would EVER do ANYTHING to hurt their chances their like, oh, say, taking away some or all of their delegates. In other words, the MichDems were exceedingly cocky and openly stated that the had no fear that any of our votes wouldn't be counted.

I'm from Michigan and I'm so mad about this I could spit. I love and admire Jennifer Granholm, hold Carl Levin great esteem and generally think the MichDems have done a good job but they've really done some damage to my opinion of them this time. It's maddening.

Michigan wanted to be a nation of men instead of a nation of laws

Neither state should count and if either does, I'm stayin home reorganizing my sock drawer

I totally agree with every point you have made. But don't forget, the Democrats in Florida PUSHED for the change and basically told the DNC to take their rules and shove them. If they had truly opposed the change and fought it in the legislature, they would never have been penalized.

I am a *snap* away from leaving the Democratic Party and never voting again.
