I'm speachless, unlike Fran.

Just an update on your other post on Caroline Kennedy and Jane Hamsher's opposition to her. Hamsher said on David Schuster that if Kennedy wants the job, she should roll up her sleeves and work for it. Excuse me? Governor Patterson is going to appoint someone to Hillary Clinton's seat, appoint someone. Whoever gets the seat will be appointed, Jane Hamsher. There is no working for it. There is not election for it. And she totally ignores Caroline Kennedy's resume as if she is just housewife Mrs. Schlossberg.

She's probably more qualified than Sarah Palin. I'm about to go off on a large local bank here in Jackson MS. If you'd like to get on board for an entertaining and enlightening ride:
Hell I am more qualified than Palin. Look at Palin. She doesn't even show up to work. Talk about a low bridge to nowhere. I could run AK with her qualifications. She bull shits her way through.

Why not, she's smart she knows what real life is like, she's went thru stuff that would break a lot of peoples spirit but she overcame them and made a success of her life.So I say go for it Fran.

Her voice is great for comedy show. I really like her. But the senate won't take her serious. You have to admit.
RainbowPhoenix

Don't forget, she'll be the ultimate filibuster repellent.

On that note-- Joe the Plumber is now saying that John McCain 'appalled him', but that Sarah Palin 'is absolutely the real deal'.

Hey, she's every bit as qualified as Caroline Kennedy. With this Blag fiasco to replace Obama's Senate seat in Illinois, the last thing Democrats need is a dynasty appointment to the Senate from New York.
Colin Powell's son. Julie Myers. Cheney's daughter at State. I'm sure there are many other examples of Republican nepotism. Oh, wait . . . GEORGE W. BUSH.
Aren't Democrats supposed to be democratic?
SouthernYankee

You have a point. But you must admit that when replace them with one of their own they seemed to be more intelligent than the republican picks. See Bush Clan.

Appointment of people just because they are media celebrities is just as bad as nepotism. Either is a very foolish idea and shows how lazy the American public is about picking their leaders. I would like to see our leaders gain their leadership roles because they have proven themselves as people with good ideas, ability to work with people and ability to get things done.

OT and I apologize...
The USSC is at it once again over Obama's citizenship. Holding a conference meeting on Friday for yet another suit.

I could see people considering her if she went through the campaign and was able to display a good command of the issues, but I don't see her getting an appointment to the Senate. I think whoever is appointed should be someone who has a history of standing up for progressive values in the best interests of New York and the country.

I'm with you. You don't just appoint someone like her. If she wants to be Senator, she needs to run an entire campaign, like Al Franken.

Sounds like a repeat of the California governor's race to replace Gray Davis. Everybody came out of the woodwork to run for gov.

Senator Bobbi Flekman!
well she's probably no more and no less qualified than anybody else - but Ms. Drescher's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me, so I'm against it just 'cuz I don't want to have to listen to her. sorry Fran.
RainbowPhoenix

No one wants to listen to it. That's why she'll be able to stop filibusters.
Off topic, here is a hilarious clip of political comedy by Robin Williams telling a British audience about Obama's election and the demise of Bush: http://politicalirony.com/2008/11/30/robin-will... Very very funny!
If Fran were a Kennedy she would have already been appointed to the cheering tears of the Harriets Christian's of the world.

I agree with both sides. Ordinarily I don't like dynasties either. I'd be against any other Kennedy, including Bobby Jr.--who I think is a great environmentalist and a wonderful person, but not right for the Senate. But Caroline is a lot more than just a Kennedy. Read her bio. Look on amazon at the books she has written. She is an intellectual. She is thoughtful. She cares about public policy and the public good and has been working in education out of the spotlight for years. I think that these rare appointment openings are an unusual opportunity to bring in someone from off the beaten track. Theoretically : What about appointing a college professor? A writer? A real intellectual? This happens in other countries. If we have to have a Kennedy to get such a person, well, so be it.

It's funny -- everyone was backing Caroline for no reason at all other than, why not? She brings hope! She's an attorney and written a book!
Now that there is someone equally incompetent for the slot, suddenly qualifications matter. Well, do they or do they not? Does writing a book and launching an award qualify you for senator?

Ahhh... no.
Oh yeah, let's just give this actress the open Senate seat just because she has an interest in politics and blindly (and annoyingly) supported Hillary. If Fran wants the seat, she should run for it in '10. She's definitely not someone who is qualified to just be handed this pretty important job. No way.

Considering her activism and progressive stance on almost all issues, and considering that she is actually quite bright, and considering that she has endured and prospered under conditions that have driven others into despair, she actually might make an excellent senator. Yes, there's the voice, but can't you see her using it as a tool? You vote her way or you hear about it forever!

Sorry, but I am not excited about reading that the NY Senator is an *important* seat.

Since when did we start electing movie actors and frat boys who think they are qualified to run things? Oh shit that's right Ronnie Raygun and Chimpy.

Maybe she should run for The House first...or Governor of California.

I think nobody's looking at the bigger picture here: How many songs has Neil Diamond written about Fran Drescher and how many Weird Al Yankovic movies has Caroline Kennedy been in?
DougStamate

Probably as capable as many already in the Senate. And should she run in 2010, she wouldn't have to worry about name recognition!
