AMERICAblog: After another day of recounting ballots, the margin between Franken and Coleman gets even tighter

Hennepin county hasn't produced the surge that Franken expected. After the first 2 days you could chalk it up to frivolous challenges by Coleman, but after yesterday, Franken has more challenges than Coleman in this all-important Mpls county. Franken's chances depend on 2 possibilities: 1) that most of the Hennepin recounted ballots so far are from the burbs and 2) that a greater fraction of Franken's challenges are legit (we know Coleman's fraction is very low -- he challenges any split-ticket ballot). Nate Silver has Coleman as the slight favorite.

Well, at least Dems have learned not to take the word of a Rethug. Seriously, though, let's all send good vibes to Franken...(and BTW, if someone darkened the oval for Franken and then wrote in "Lizard Party" and didn't darken the oval beside it, I'd say that's a vote for Franken, wouldn't you? That's the kind that Coleman is challenging...

i wonder if the person who wrote in Lizard People will come forward. he/she could probably get on Letterman.

In the vote above for another candidate the voter filled in his write in for lizard people so it shows intent to vote for Franken even with the write in in my opinion.

Yeah, "Lizard People" not "Party". My bad. : )

Unfortunately, if the rest of the counties are the same as the ones counted already then Franken is going to lose by a few votes.

If Coleman does win, I hope he takes away from this that he must represent everyone in the State, not just the people on the right. Who am I kidding? He will probably come out and say he had a mandate from the voters.

It doesn't look good for Franken. The numbers seem to be against him. It's a shame Franken might lose by a vote or two.
    Coleman is a jackass.

yes, I commented a week ago about the Dems keeping Lieberman and he probably cost them MN. We got Lieberman and lost Franken.

On MSNBC last night, they showed examples of some of the challenged ballots. I was appalled. One or two of them seemed like legitimately elderly and/or visually-impaired voters--just missing the oval or shaky writing. But some of them looked frivolous---like the "lizard people" example cited here. It is a shame that people did not take their responsibility to vote more seriously. It is not that hard to do. I am puzzled by the care-less-ness of these ballots.

I'll say it now and take it to the bank.....Franken wins this, most likely in court.

Harry Reid might have this 59th vote sown up absent Lieberman's back-stabbing of the Democratic candidate. Just a thought.

Joe, you're assuming Harry wants Franken in the caucus. I'm thinking that he doesn't: Franken is a bit too blue, and not enough dog, for old Harry to hunt with.
