wow, taking even more shortcuts... I wonder how many people will have to die before we realize de-regulation is a failure because the airlines are willing to skimp here and there on the name of profits.

Generally I liked President Clinton, but his lack of energy policy has left the country open to rape by Bush and Cheney...

Good God Almighty they are letting planes lift off without full tanks.I always believed planes had to have full tanks to leave the ground just in case they needed to stay up longer than intended.

reflux1000, I don't know this for sure, so I could be wrong, but I always believed they were required to have enough fuel get to their destination accounting for head or tailwind, etc. , and then a certain percentage more for unforseen problems, but how high that percentage is I don't know.

Ironically, this is similar to the banking problems as well, where they used to be required to have a certain percentage of their worth in liquid assets, in house....which also was not enforced anymore.

This administration gauges wht is needed by letting things fail (or fall out of the sky) and then reacting feebly, in an inadequate manner and hoping it doesn't happen again.

This president should go down in history as "The Tinkerbell President" where all the nation has to clap it's hands or tink won't exist...

This is a serious problem. As some of you have pointed out, people WILL die as things get worse and worse. Safety oversights, cuts in maintenance and service, lack of proper training - all these issues will lead to accidents. This is the major reason I refuse to fly anymore. Third-world status, here we come!
