AMERICAblog: Alisa Miller: Why we know less than ever about the world

"we can only cover TMZish topics"-MSM
  • smiling_dog · 1 year ago
It's not even worth getting the news of the world from U.S. media. The spin of it is so absurd, whether it's the Middle East where Israel just keeps "defending itself", South America where the evil leftists have taken over, Africa, where the genocides and despotic rulers aren't as important, Europe where the evil French live, etc., the picture of the rest of the world painted for xenophobic Americans is absurd and is based largely on justifying the US's insane foreign policy.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Yeah, they can't handle world news any better than they can handle domestic news.

That's why Bush was able to con the country into his stupid war.

This country is so full of hot air.

    Off Subject:
The house repugs are in Washington DEMANDING that congress return to session & give them a vote on offshore drilling, why don't the democrats come back and put a bill forward to nationalize our remaining oil FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, keeping 100% of the oil in the US and to be used to lower our cost of energy. People don't understand that any oil the oil companies find will be sold on the world market and that they will want to make as much as possible.

I know this is not on the issue. But I was just on HuffPo and saw the new ad from Obama talking about Big Oil. If you haven't seen it do. He did a great job.

Don't worry about the middle east, worry about Tennessee. Paid Muslim holidays. What's next? Sharia Law?

    i'm so glad you're here...

this is for you. it's from Jed and clearly sets out the whole Obama on a dollar bill racist ad by McCain...basically, McCain plays the race card and then accuses Obama of playing it first. oh, you're welcome.

I saw that. But, I doubted that it was released by the McCain campaign because the source was later deleted from the ad. You're not allowed to run a political ad without acknowledging the source. I figured it was an outlaw ad made by someone not connected to the campaign.

I am sick of the news coverage of "who is getting arrested now" in local news. Anyone looking at it all the time would think this is a police state country.
  • barts · 1 year ago
Alisa is spot on and I've been venting my frustrations about our news for years. I don't watch our local new anymore since they are nothing more than tidbit headline "lite" news peppering the generous portions of the musings of Hollywood Blonde Bimbos, dead or alive.

I've tuned in to CNN or NPR for a more palatable source of news; although, not significantly better.

Why would any American need to know any of that shit? Anna Nicole Dead Slut is still dead.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Now, now. Be nice. Anna Nicole Smith was a major fund raiser for AIDS/HIV causes on behalf of the gay community here in Florida and especially in Ft. Lauderdale.
    G'bless!

    Here we go...

The graphics are great and remind me of the "word clouds" that were in Outlook on Sunday. They compared Obama and Mccain's campaign websites. The biggest word on both sites was OBAMA. I hope McCain gets what he deserves.
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
gotta love this then... what if john mccain threw a free country "extravagenza" and no one came??

    http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/0...

the KEY point in this article (that seems to sweep right past you if you're not reading closely enough)?

***The free concert, sponsored by the Florida Republican Party, attracted several hundred people including a fan sporting a homemade T-shirt saying, "Don't let the USA become an Obama-Nation."*** my emphasis.

    pathetic :-)

    ----
PS... this reminds me of one of my favorite lines from This Is Spinal Tap, "If I
ve told them once, I've told them a THOUSAND times... its 'Spinal Tap', THEN 'puppet show'."
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 1 year ago
okay... this little clip just gets me pissed off at all the people who got pissed at ME for saying I didn't give a flying f*ck about ANS.

joking about it was trying to prove a point.

we don't get NEWS in this country... you have to go digging on foreign websites to get real news.

it isn't just coverage, its self-censorship as well... they somehow feel they need to 'protect' their viewers from 'extreme views'? (cnbc anyone?)

the bigger the world gets, the more isolated we are as Americans.

    Terrific vid.!
    That map speaks volumes...
Keith Olberman's admission last Thursday or Friday, I think, that NBC executives had private communications with the Bush White House, after Brokaw's anthrax fan letter arrived, proves, at least, NBC on occasion keeps important, newsworthy information away from the public.
  • donotmakemecomedownthere · 1 year ago
This is a terrific presentation that should be seen by millions of Americans; unfortunately, only 0.000001% will see it.
