AMERICAblog: Amazing video by young gay kid who "gets it"

  • pwright600 · 3 weeks ago
Beautiful video. Sad we're all alone, yet we fight for everyone. I remember watching Coretta Scott King say to America that gay marriage was a civil right, but she certainly doesn't speak for the whole of the black community. Makes me sad and angry that we keep losing and our "allies" keep throwing us under the bus. I had the audacity to hope, but I'm really losing hope. I may not vote again. It doesn't help.

And pwright600 I hope that white LGBT don't think that all Black people are against Gay marriage as most white LGBT in the communtiy think we are.

    Isn't that some sh!t and I'm gay.

And I'll add to that. pwright600 Please say YOU fight for everyone. Don't speak for the rest of the gay community for there are many caucasian Gays who don't and never will fight for Blacks and we have seen that since your boy Dan Savage made Blacks as well as us gay Blacks the whipping boy for gay anger over Prop 8.

    Oh how we forget!

FWIW, I'm straight - and I'm deeply offended by the notion that LGBT civil rights are subject to majority vote.

I'm fighting this battle with you. As all progressives should do.
  • John Aravosis · 2 weeks ago
Thanks Kathleen. I've been amazed at how many straight friends and strangers have said this to me over the past year. If anything, they've been offended that we often refer to this as a gay battle, rather than a battle that everyone is involved in. So I really appreciate that.
  • jefferyk · 2 weeks ago
Really? As the clip points out, straight progressives went to the polls in Maine and voted for pot and against gay people.
  • Keith & Dustin · 2 weeks ago
Well, maybe they will all get high now and come to their senses. It's sickening to me that people are allowed to vote for rights of others. What kind of twisted shit is that and how come it's condoned in the land of the free? Why hasn't our Supreme Court stepped in yet and put an end to this madness?
  • RitornaVincitor · 2 weeks ago
Two members of the Supreme Court - Scalia and Thomas - voted just a few years ago to uphold the Texas anti-sodomy law. I worry that Roberts and Alito are against us as well. Until Scalia and Thomas die of chronic constipation, I'm more worried than hopeful.

Perhaps we need to raise money to make papers, pipes, and bongs with our message on it.
  • devlzadvocate · 2 weeks ago
Great video. Smart guy. Truth in the message. I'm standing with him.
  • greenleegazette · 2 weeks ago
I totally dig this guy and his message, but what is with the # signs? #P2? I have no idea what that means.

I liked the way he presented his message. If the DNC really cared, they would have been standing by our sides through out all of the right-winged attacks. They love our money but can't seem to find the time to actually support us. We need a new progressive party that will be there for us and fight beside us all the way. Our White House, Congress and the DNC have been standing on the sidelines whilst we get attacked by the popular majority vote. No one's rights should ever be brought up for an up or down vote.
  • homohomo · 2 weeks ago
Butch calls for a "new progressive party"... Already? You just stopped being Liberals and decided to call yourselves "Progressives"... Now you want a NEW progressive, whatever?

It's time to face the fact that homosexuality will never be seen as normal by the majority of the public of America or any country. Give up the whole marriage thing and work towards basic rights as was just past in Washington.
  • Butch1 · 2 weeks ago
We have never stopped being liberal; our party, with its tail between its legs has run to the center; only to prostitute for more votes forgetting their own ideology in the process. I still consider myself a liberal. I do not know why a person would not want to be one. Read the dictionary definition of what a liberal is. Now read what the definition of a conservative is.

Times change and so does the language. Thanks to the conservatives constantly comparing being a liberal with something totally foreign, it has finally ruined the word, hence, the usage of progressive.

I think you are welcome to your opinion, as flawed as it is, but we gays and lesbians decided a long time ago that we wouldn't let homophobes decide or define who we are as a people and whether we deserve the same equal rights as they. That would give them too much power over us that they do not deserve to have.

I reside in the state of Washington and I'm relieved that we will have the same state rights as straights. ( for now, until the next group of haters wants to challenge our freedom. ) Of course, you must realize that there are well over a thousand Federal rights of which, we are still lacking only because we haven't fought for them. So, straight americans get all the rights under the Constitution whilst gay and lesbian americans are still fighting to become equal. How lucky you are that you take all of this for granted just because your orientation is attracted to the opposite sex. The actual "fact" in this is that we will win them. ( We shouldn't have to fight for them because we already have them under the Constitution but laws are being made to take those rights away from us and the government will not enforce our rights until they are forced to do so. The Constitution doesn't say special rights for straight people and less rights for second-class citizens. I think you need to research this and not just pull opinions out of the air as fact. Many countries in the world are already "light-years" ahead of us with human rights issues, especially regarding gay rights. Eventually, all the lies about us will be exposed to "normal" people and they will see that discrimination against us as is a negative action in a polite society.

If you prefer to be on the opposite side of history, that is your right. I'm sure there still are those folks holding on to their prejudices against blacks but, eventually, they became the small minority who refused to consider the facts as well. Such is the case with us. Science stands behind us on this and if it weren't for the indoctrination by the religionists to choose us as their "whipping-boy," this wouldn't be happening. I think it's time you faced the facts that homosexuality has been present in all cultures from the beginning of time and it will be here after I am long gone. You need to get over your own prejudices against gays. If you don't like what gays do, then, don't do it. But, don't begin to pontificate to us about how we should live our own lives as citizens.

Marriage is a legal status. Marriage rights are basic rights.

Homework first, snark after you understand the basics.

Actually other countries give full civil rights to their gay citizens, including marriage.
  • cowboyneok · 2 weeks ago
    exactly.
  • RitornaVincitor · 2 weeks ago
It would be very hard for people like me to give up on gay marriage since we already have it. I know it's discouraging for those who are being denied, but don't give up. It is coming for all. And gay people will be seen as normal by the majority of society. Just the change in society's attitude toward gays since the 1950'a is mind-boggling. We're moving in the right direction, even with all the fits and starts. Why do you think the haters have organized and done so much to throw up roadblocks? Because they know where things are going. Take heart.
  • caphillprof · 2 weeks ago
I think it is pretty clear by now that Barrack lied his way through his campaign. Anything to get a vote.

Assuming he does what some sort of health care reform, he would have achieved it if he had established gay civil rights first. And done a dozen other easy acts for other constituents.

Instead, now when he wants support, there's less and less enthusiasm there.

The recent history of the DNC and the Obama campaign explains their hostility towards the LGBT agenda or at best follow a strategy of catering to bigots.

Obama chose Time Kaine of Virginia to nominally run the DNC. Kaine, like Bill Cinton, is a Dixiecrat. Kaine’s ‘faith based’ program is against reproductive choice and stem cell research and for funding abstinence training. He was an early and hardnosed supporter of the genocide in Iraq and the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan. He ran a gay-baiting campaign to become governor and has the same bigoted attitude towards same sex marriage as Obama, McCain and Hillary Clinton.

The real power in the DNC is Leah Daughtry who runs its day to day operations. Like Obama she’s a christite theocrat. She’s an ordained pentecostal bigot who opposes same sex marriage. Daughtry used DNC funds to pay for anti-GLBT and anti-choice campaigns by other theocrats. Daughtry was sued, successfully, by the DNCs own director or LGBT outreach for antigay discriminatory hiring and firing practice.

Obama liked Daughtry so much she was promoted to run the Democrat national convention in Denver. Obama’s campaign catered to the christian right from beginning to end, from Donnie McClurkin to Rick Warren and ‘gawd’s in the mix”. Obama chose another ordained pentecostal bigot, Joshua Dubois to run his ‘faith’, read bigot, outreach and made significant inroads into the Republicans bigot outreach.

With Democrat ‘friends’ like Obama, Daughtry, Kaine and Dubois who needs Republican enemies like Bush and Rove.

Yaaaaaawn. How many trees were wasted from all those sheets of paper? Seriously, I am all for standing up for your rights but I am sick of all these negative "I'm a Second Class Citizen" rants. Yeah, just keep affirming that to the universe and that is exactly what you will remain. How does this video say anything or do anything that other videos, protestors or countless equality websites have already done.
