AMERICAblog: Analysts on McCain's latest attack ads: "I don't get it"

At the expense of obvious redundancy, here is a previous post by 'moi' which is my take on what Rove is doing:
Rove only has one way to go to get McCain elected. McCain has to stay on the attack. The reason is that if Obama ever goes negative, then McCain has had it. McCain really DOESEN"T understand economics; he really IS a typewriter guy in a laptop world; He really DOESN'T know where the nearest grocery store to his house is; he really is CONFUSED about who is fighting who and where in the middle east. All of these things don't have to be made up; they're all true (possibly excepting the grocery store) , and they're all on video tape already to be inserted in Obama's ads. To me, it's not an attack ad if it's true. So Rove's strategy may be to fling enough mud at Obama to keep him off balance defending himself so that McCain can coast on thru. Obama's no favorite of mine either because he wants to put me out of business; but, that's another subject.

Obama just caved on offshore drilling. Maybe Pelosi will turn the lights back on in the house of reps now.
It's not Obama. Americans are babies squalling drill, drill drill, because I don't want to make sacrifices. It's all about me.

It was Obama who caved. Pelosi still hasn't caved. So, for all the vitriol heaped on Pelosi? She's the strong one here.

When they play the crowds chanting "OBAMA" in the lying bastards ads I must admit I get a little thrill.

He sure did cave: "Shifting from his previous opposition to expanded offshore drilling, the Illinois senator (Obama) told a Florida newspaper he could get behind a compromise with Republicans and oil companies to prevent gridlock over energy."
The whole gridlock thing is a Republican and oil company creation. "Working with them" is doing what they want. "Working with them" will only delay any kind of realistic solution.

Yeah, but the American babies wont begin looking at other solutions until after they see drilling wont help or work. To them now, drilling will fix everything and it's those democrats holding it up. That's how dumb they are.

Here is what republicans do when they want to solve a problem.... "House Conservatives Engage In Political Stunt, Demand A Vote On Gas Prices After Obstructing A Vote» House conservatives engaged in political theater today, storming the floor after Congress was adjourned “to attack Democrats for leaving town without doing something to lower gas prices.” [...] During yesterday’s vote on the Commodity Markets and Transparency Act (H.R. 6604) to rein in oil profiteers, House Republican leaders pressured 13 of their members to switch their vote from “yes” to “no.” Thanks to these strong arm tactics and weak members, the bill to lower gasoline prices by controlling profiteers failed by a vote of 276-151, falling ten votes shy of the two-thirds majority required for passage under the suspension of the House rules. Once again, the GOP leadership used their power to help keep oil prices and profits high, while hurting the average driver." http://thinkprogress.org/2008/08/01/house-stunt...

I suspect Obama caved for political reasons. If he opposes offshore drilling, the republicans will paint him as contributing to the high price of gas because he opposes offshore drilling.
It's a really bogus issue and I am sorry he caved on this because the bigger issue is oil is not the answer, it is the problem. Finding a small amount of offshore oil is at best a band aid approach to the energy crisis. Right up there with no tax on gasoline for the summer.
I just saw the "celebrity" ad on NESN during extra innings of the Red Sox game.
McCain is going to lose by 15 points. Once the debates show him as a sick old man who is desperately holding on to the neo-con wet dreams of a new world order and pax americana, and Obama as the future of the world, McCain is finished.
Of course, the media will spin everything as a McCain victory, and when Obama cleans his clock on the debates I'm sure they will just call him an uppity negro who doesnt know his place, they will get away with it (no one is allowed to criticize the media unless its Republicans) and McCain will probably win.
This country is finished if McCain wins.

Why would Rove let McCain debate Obama? Do you think Rove's a moron?

If I was McCain's advisor; I would declare the debates "fixed"; and wouldn't participate.

McCain's position in this race is to attack Obama. It's getting comical on the one hand and sadly tragic on the other. What's McCain's campaign slogan again? Abandon hope all ye who enter here?
Enjoy.

McCain has never said why you should vote for him, only why you shouldnt vote for Obama.
He says he can win a war, but lost the only one he was in. He wants to surge in Afghanistan, keep the same number if not more troops in Iraq, invade Iran, and put the troops on our border. His foreign policy, if you can imagine, is a copy of Bush, but turned hard right. He is a truly scary man. Sick in more then one sense of the word.

True read Chris: It's as if McCain is obsessed with Obama. And, no one in the media has really called him on it! We're living in sad times friend. The next president will have a huge challenge ahead. Obama is not up for the task. He's too narrowly focused.

I just ran across this and thought people should read it. It is sweet. McCain's attack ads are making Obama big money:
Anderson Cooper 360: An excellent read into what the next president will face. I'm thinking this is the only format for understanding what's really happening in the world. I'm tired as hello of listening to McCain's narrow minded dribbling. Obama can't focus on the issues because he's playing clean up to Karl Rove and his puppets.

Here's some really good analysis of the actual ads, frame by frame, and the intended subliminal messages therein:

This article PROVES Obama isn't as crazy as the mainstream traditional media would like you to think. McCain DID put Obama's face on dollar bills to scare the American people or shove McCain racism down America's throat.
His new AD is even worse he says Obama is the one and compare him to the messiah this campaign needs to be about the issue's and I hope Obama stricts back. And also I was at the Springfield even sitting right behind him obama never said Mcain says. He stuck with Mcaskills theme of they said or they say. He was directing this at bloggers and the media the fact that Obama took it directed at him and said Obama was trying to inject race into the campaign to means to me the mcain campiganfells a little guilty

Finally, when you realize you have nothing different to offer the American people, but failed policies, major deficits, endless wars, then you lower yourself and resort to ugly, dirty, attacks on your opponent. It worked the last two times, so why not use the same bottom feeders, to run dishonest ads and bring your opponent down. These rats are taking advantage of the naive, mindless, Americans, who obviously are ignorant, and make their decisions on these ads. Mad Mac has put aside all his self respect, and is even proud of these tabloid type ads. What does that say about the caliber of his campaign, and the man himself? Well, you get what you vote for, and it looks like America must be ready for another Bush term.
We are gluttons for punishment, no?

if you don't get what McCain's doing, don't call yourself an expert. it's Rove 101.
"What's worse than John McCain's dishonest ad? Finding out he had another, equally dishonest ad ready to air if Obama DID visit the hospital. He just wasn't going to be honest with American voters no matter what happened, and now everybody knows it, even the press he calls his "base." He'll never live it down." -- Kagro X, Daily Kos

Not sure why the experts can't see what McSame's doing. He's playing on racial prejicuce which is very much alive and well in this country. Brit and Hil are infamous for drug and alcohol abuse, time in jail, lewdness, promiscuity, and unfit parenting- stereotypes that have plagued African American men for generations. It's Rovian and disgusting, but it plays on people's emotions, fears and misgivings and they know that works better than anything, because it's part of human nature. Research shows us that, say in a vacation where people experience 19 wonderful things and one bad, scary thing, most recall the negative more often and more accurately despite the fact that it only accounts for only 5% of their total experience. Negative emotions, particularly fear, are more intense and last longer.
So how does Barack Obama fight against that fact and the lies being propogated? That's the more important question.
