The Hartford Courant whose editorial board is the Tribune Corp endorses Obama. Only the second Democrat they have ever endorsed.

    "Yet despite her formidable gifts.."

When America quits living in a world of lies, she will tack onto the right course. Formidable gifts - sure.

You young people coming up - take my advice - cut the BS. Embrace reality. Quit living the lies America has lived for some many decades.

Formidable gifts? Do they mean for a snake oil saleswoman? Certainly not for a serious politician.

    That would be Obama...

I think all of the VP campaigning, the party vetting etc. has brought to light much about Ms, Palin previously unknown and has opened the eyes of many in Alaska. I dont think her popularity will continue. Very definitely people are going to scrutanize and investigate her management of the people's money from now on! I believe her political career is toast ...
    Rightfully so.

I disagree with the paper's comment that “the election, after all is said and done, is not about Sarah Palin”. It has a great deal to do with Palin. And they cite, as one of their reasons for endorsing Obama, that Palin is too risky and would be stretched beyond her range if she were to assume the presidency. If that's NOT about Palin, what is?

Also - I would like to refer you back to Palin’s "idiotic" comments regarding fruit fly research as another example of why this election IS about Palin.

Rather than simply assume that Palin was just plain ole dumb, I suspected that her thoughts on this topic were spawned from her extreme, fundamentalist religious beliefs. Well my suspicions have some merit.

Check out this article, written in 2005. It’s about fruit fly research and the scientific observation of how a single gene determined all aspects of the flies' sexual orientation and behavior.

This kind of scientific research, about sexual orientation based on genetics, causes a severe fracture in Palin’s rigid fundamentalist religious belief system and therefore she must denounce, ridicule and dismiss all fruit fly research. For a person running for high public office, disparaging science, based on intolerant and fanatical religious beliefs, is much more dangerous and sinister - and Taliban like - than simply discounting science because of mere stupidity. And her harsh religious, anti-science beliefs, reinforce her position that the US constitution should be amended to prohibit marriage equality.

Good points, but I think there are a myriad number of reasons for their defeat. Its the ENTIRE REPUBLICAN GOP package and I couldn't be happier about it. They have attracted all the rats to their party and they are finally being exiled. GOOD RIDDANCE! Now, since Democrats / Progressives are in power we need to be vigilant to keep the greedy boneheaded Republicans from attempting to infiltrate our party. Lets keep them in EXILE as long as possible. We have a LOT of digging out to do.

"Rather than simply assume that Palin was just plain ole dumb, I suspected that her thoughts on this topic were spawned from her extreme, fundamentalist religious beliefs. Well my suspicions have some merit."

Exactly. Her choice of fruit fly research wasn't idiotic at all, but with purposeful intention and forethought. Having a child with special needs she is likely to have known in detail about fruit fly research and its benefits. This was one of many "signals" that GWB and now Palin have mastered, communicating in code words to the extreme religious right. The wink of the eye at the appropriate time means, "I understand, I have to say or not say things indirectly due to it being socially unacceptable to most Americans and would cause me to lose power, but I understand, and will enact our agenda once in office". It's a cult, and they communicate with known "visual" handshakes and code words.

Exactly. Even if I LOVED McCain, I would have to vote against him because of the danger of Palin becoming president.

Word. Excellent analysis of why Palin is so dangerous.

Well put Co: Throw in the fact as well that since we don't get an insight into who's going to be in the cabinet the choosing of a VP is the most important decision a candidate can make.

    Give McShank an F-

That fits right in with his 894th out of 899 graduate status at the Naval Academy. Take away the fact that his daddy was an Admiral and ole McShank probably would have been tossed out of the academy (another F-). He's an F- kind of guy.

This is good news for Obama and devastating for McCain/Palin. ALSO today, while McCain was in Waterloo, Iowa on Meet The Press, the Des Moines Register had a great editorial endorsement for Obama. Additionally, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also endorsed Obama, calling him the "face of change" and the best to be the 44th President! I was a bit surprised by both, as they trend toward the Conservatives. Both are state wide circulated papers.

MSNBC just reported that some Obama / Biden signs were defaced in Maryland by having the "B" marked out and replaced with an "S" to spell "Osama"

Jeesh. Is that all?!!? I was at the Oklahoma State Democratic Party headquarters in OKC recently, and they had a big sign of Obama Biden that had removed a sign from a neighborhood that had been defaced with an acorn spray painted on one side and "ANTI CHRIST!" spray painted on the other... Of course, this IS the BLOODY RED state of Oklahoma...

My Obama / Biden signs got ripped up in my yard in Tulsa. I reported it to the police and made sure I got a "malicious mischief" designation since the Republican party and media around here have been trying to say Democrats are just exagerating about vandalism. I've been working in the Obama - Biden state offices and people come in CONSTANTLY to get more signs because they are defaced or stolen. Again, this IS Oklahoma, folks.

Why is Alaska a state instead of a Commonwealth like Puerto Rico? There are so few people in Alaska. Does it really deserve state status? DC is more deserving of state status. Far more.

I just want to know one thing: why aren't Willow and Piper Palin in school? They are being dragged all over the place with Mom and Dad - do they have a tutor on the campaign trail?

I just blogged on McCain-Palin's website and asked those two idiots to explain why Sarah's state newspaper is endorsing Senator Obama. I was the first comment. Let's see how many "defensive" blows I get for this. HEE HEE.

Well I think that sums it up. If her own state that she represents which is why McCain says she's the best governor in the country.
