very cryptic. And aimed directly in Hillary's direction.
Some think Rahm will be one to have to tell Hillary it's over - along with some others that are picked.
I do hope Indiana and NC do not let the party down and keep this thing going or Hillary more to feed her delusion.

Just my opinion. I'm convinced that if Obama becomes the candidate, the GOP will unleash a ferocious campaign to characterize him as radical, possibly Muslim, anti-American, and inexperienced. They'll use the the flag pin, Rev. Wright, his wife's thesis, Rezko, mysterious trip to Pakistan in college.

    It'll be a swift-boating that makes Kerry's look like child's play.

The superdelegates know that Obama can't win without Hillary's all -out campaign support. I don't think she has an altruistic streak in her body. If she loses she will probably pout and stay home.

She may try this, but I'd give it two weeks before she's forced to campaign for him. She's still in the Senate, and Reid and Byrd will just shut her down if she tries something like that.

No legislation for Clinton means no bacon for New York, and if Clinton doesn't deliver, New Yorkers will turn on her in an instant. Party affiliation doesn't run as deep as you'd think in New York, but cut off the pork, and there will suddenly be a very popular challenger looking for her seat.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Are you saying Hillary is a slave to the pork? What does Gloria Steinem think about his?
  • Andrew A. Gill · 1 year ago
Are you saying Hillary is a slave to the pork? What does Gloria Steinem think about his?

    Oh, dear.

Now I can't read the bit about a challenger looking at her seat without getting giggles.

Remember a big buddy of hers (Joe LIeberman) also betrayed his party and people and yet (with the help of Rove) he was able to be re-elected.

But the Lieberman-Lamont fight was not a cakewalk, and I wouldn't be surprised if he loses in 2012.

New York may be a tougher nut, in any case. Lieberman was still being curried by the Democratic leadership, was still chairman of three committees, and was bringing home the bacon, none of which will be true for Clinton if she refuses to support the presidential candidate.

In addition, I think that many people in New York supported her for senator based on the belief that she would eventually run for president. If she takes this all the way to the convention and loses the nom, she's toast. The next time she would be able to run would be in 2016 (since she couldn't run against President Obama in 2012), at which point she would be 69, the same age as Ronald Reagan when he ran in 1980.

So you've got a senator who has defected, isn't bringing home the bacon, doesn't have any committee chairs, is on the outs with party leadership, and doesn't have any potential to be elected to any higher office (except maybe governor).

If you can't beat her for senate on those terms, I don't think you can ever beat her for senate (which is a distinct possibility).

I have never heard anyone from the media, mention the fact that Rev. Wright was a marine, who stopped his education to join the service.
Some of his remarks might be totally unacceptable, but no one is really looking at the person. He has fought for this country, he has helped the people in Chicago, and has done may remarkable deeds, that even Hillary's ex pasture has acknowledged.
Hillary and McCain supporters, aided by the media, are attacking Obama,
by bringing Wright into the picture, again, and again. No one seems to remember that evangelical leaders, who have made bigoted comments, have been accepted and embraced by McCain. As for Hillary, we know
that her self righteous remarks, are hypocritical. Her large baggage, even though rummaged, still has tons of dirt hidden underneath. Dirt, that we shall all be made aware of, when the right wingers start attacking her, if by some
hellish chance, she becomes the nominee.

There is much to Reverend Wright that is wonderful and good, the problem here is that politics got in the middle of this man's career and turned it every which way and down. Certainly the man said some things that shocked most of us, but so do many politicians much less their pastors/reverends/fathers. I am waiting for a piece (and video) about Wright made from whole cloth that can be copied and passed about to give a more accurate read on this man and his time in his church.

Is it no wonder that most good men and women don't want to run for office? This stuff is madness and totally horrifying.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
a famous old bumper sticker said "if you're not outraged, you're not paying attention" regarding pastor wright, i'd wanna say "it you're the least bit shocked, you haven't been paying attention". most of what he said could have been one of my rants except he has has more clarity and credibility.

Black Leader in House Denounces Bill Clinton’s Remarks

The third-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives and one of the country’s most influential African-American leaders sharply criticized former President Bill Clinton this afternoon for what he called Mr. Clinton’s “bizarre” conduct during the Democratic primary campaign.

Representative James E. Clyburn, an undeclared superdelegate from South Carolina who is the Democratic whip in the House, said that “black people are incensed over all of this,” referring to statements that Mr. Clinton had made in the course of the heated race between his wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Senator Barack Obama.

  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
villainous is not such a stretch to describe HRCs antics of late. the challenge is to make hillary democrats (about 50%) see this. if sarcasm and condescension can make this happen, i'd say go for it. but a better model is the obama campaign, which has been more good-natured about her, only occasionally stooping to ridicule and zingers. i'm relieved to see it because the tone on this blog, if that's the alternative, would lose him the general election lickety-split (he can't win without that other 50%). come here (or to DKos) to relieve your frustrations but tone it down when you're out in the real world. <forced grin>

The reminds me of what Reverend Baxter warned us about immediately following 9/11:

"Today, we gather to be reassured that God hears the lamenting and
bitter weeping of Mother America because so many of her children are
no more. Let us now seek that assurance in prayer for the healing of
our grief stricken hearts, for the souls and sacred memory of those
who have been lost. Let us also pray for divine wisdom as our leaders
consider the necessary actions for national security, wisdom of the
grace of God that as we act, we not become the evil we deplore."

All the more poignant that it is Hillary & Co. behaving this way, NOT the vast right-wing conspiracy which she has spent much of her political life opposing, and of which she spoke so articulately.

I saw that ad earlier and was disgusted but not surprised. Actually, I think they (the GOP) are merely warming up!

Now please, tell me, tell me do. Whatever happened to you politically? Last I knew you were a heavy duty REpublican and all of a sudden you sound kinda like a moderate - almost progressive. This simply MUST be my imagination, but I need your response to sleep well tonight.

    I see three possible outcomes.

MOST LIKELY -- Clinton gets the nomination, loses to McCain. She carries about 10-12 states.
NEXT MOST LIKELY -- Obama gets the nomination, loses to McCain. Obama carries one or two states.
LEAST LIKELY -- Clinton gets the nomination, wins if McCain's health takes a turn for the worse.

I think that the 50 state strategy is nice. I also think that it is nice that the 8 thousand people, or thirty thousand people who showed up to some of these caucuses in deep Red states like Obama. But, lets face it--a Democratic candidate for President can not win unless he wins blue states. And also Purple states that go back and forth, namely Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Florida. Just because Hillary won in Purple states that the election will really be fought in, does not mean that Obama can not win them. But didn't Tuesday suggest that Obama will have trouble in Penn. It is hard to think that the Democrats could win the White House without Penn.

I think it is time for Obama to consider dropping out for the good of the Democratic Party. He can still grow in the Senate, and maybe take some leadership roles there eventually. Maybe he can run for Governor of Illinois. I don't think he can win in November--and I doubt the super-delegates will hand the nomination to the next McGovern. That is why they were created, to protect us from just this situation. A candidate who can not win getting the most delegates. It would be good for Obama to announce that he is ending his campaign and go do his job in the Senate. He looks tired of the campaign anyway and he probably needs a rest.
