It is hubris. Man, getting in the way of religion, lusting after control, power, believing only THEY bask in gods light.

Jesus would have been disgusted. The old testament god...would smite them all for "missing the point" (also known as worshipping false gods, namely "holy places" (as if all places were't) , and themselves as the "true" interpreters of god).

If you believe in an all powerful God, you would have to believe that God doesn't mumble, or talk trash. I would take it further and say there ARE NO SPECIFIC "holy places", and that that attitude...the picking and choosing (by MAN, for Gods sake :--) of one place over another on this earth is usurping gods power.

They are hypocrites.

I am so sick of organized religion. I couldn't sleep so turned on the radio while laying in bed. On coast to coast they had some nut talking about the end times for 2 hours. Stupid way to try to go to sleep, since I was getting angrier by the minute. Any sane person could have predicted the 1st caller in to the show. He sounded like Eric Rudolph on steroids. He thought it was time to secede... I decided to come here!

And to think all modern religions are built around a mentally ill man who heard voices telling him to kill his own son...it's not too farfetched to say that all religions have been tainted from their inceptions.

Let me amend that last remark...all MAJOR modern religions--judaism, islam and christianity--all built around the supposed actions of Abraham.

No, that would never do...she's a WOMAN, after all. Women aren't allowed to form religions, just follow the mandates of male religions.

But in her defense, it WAS a male voice...but of course, that's not good enough for male dominated, authoritarian religious nuts.

Makes you wonder, though, if Abraham would have been tucked away in a mental institution if he had had to face a modern jury for attempted murder.

There is really nothing new about this. I suggest anyone who had not read work done by Karen Armstrong do so and get a really good look at the history of the unholy mess in that region.
