AMERICAblog: Another McCain Pastor: Islam Is a 'Conspiracy of Spiritual Evil'

So basically the repugnican'ts will have to drop the whole Rev Wright thing or have to own up to all the looney religious leaders McCain has uses/been used by over the years. Of course Wright will remain an issue because he doesn't speak for rich, white, elitist men with trophy drug addict wives and private lakes?

This must be another example of Insane McCain thinking "the public wont care..." Well tehy do, at least the ones with thinking, reasoning minds. Hagee and Parsley are both guilty of some very UN-Christian statements and thinking, though perhaps "thinking" is a bit strong. Perhaps poor ole John is "seeking." He started as an Episcopalian and now seems to be some sort of Baptist or Methodist which is fine, BUT I do not think any of thse groups support the crazy off-the-wall things said by his new friends. Frankly, I find them much more offensive and out of line than anything I have heard about Pastor Wright. Insane McCain needs to understand he must reject and condemn these two religious loonies beyond question. They are like toilet paper sticking to his shoe or worse. Not to do so and soon will show him yet again as out of touch.

America was founded with the intention of seeing religion kept out of federalized political business altogether.
What pinheads.

Rod Parsley is preaching a typical, middle -American evangelical Christian message. It resonates. He's not saying anything that most conservative Christians in this country disagree with.

But most Americans (and most Christians) don't agree with much of the conservative christian beliefs and even less with making them a basis for legislation. Rev Wright's only difference is he pissed off a bunch of straight white guys. If his focus was gays/lesbians/muslims/atheists no one would have batted an eyelash.

I used to crew with rev. Parsley, and he was not only wise, but quite happy as well as consistant in his rowing. In fact we used to say that Parsley was a Sage who Rows Merrily in Time! But seriously folks...
What happened to the "honorable" campaign, Johnny?

btw, whatever happened to that 'i can cure gays' preacher Obama had on his tour for awhile... did that ever get resolved, or did Americablog and the media just let it die?
Did we hold our noses on that issue? I can't recall... maybe I need to dig through past articles

Am I the only one who thinks Rod Parsley sounds like a porn stars name?

Some people feel that religionism in general is a "conspiracy of evil."

At least it seems that the media is finally starting to examine McCain and his campaign after the "free ride" during the primary. Now that we have a likely Dem nominee the press is doing what it said it would do and be just as tough on McCain. This week we've seen coverage of his lobbyist problem and now his pastor problem. Frankly, I couldn't care less about the latter except for the hypocrisy. If we are going to be subjected to endless Rev. Wright coverage then we should play fair and give the same treatment to McCain's pastors.

"Obama's a Muslim!"-cable news

I watched Hasselbeck from the view, try to talk her way out of this one. She criticized Obama, in her usual self righteous way, about his connection with Wright, and yet she is making excuses for McCain, who went after Parsley, for his endorsement. Republican double standards. I still have to hear McCain condemn these statements, and refuse Parsleys endorsement.

Here's the problem with the Hagee/Parsley+McCain vs. Wright+Obama. To so many people in America, Hagee and Parsley are hating the right people. Parsley said America should destroy Islam and that it is a devil religion? Half of America replies, "So?" Gays caused Katrina and are filthy abominations? "Yeah?" The Catholic Church is a great whore? "Sure, anything else?" Hitler did God's work by "hunting" the Jews to Israel? "Good, that helps bring on the Rapture!"
But "God damn America?!?" "HE'S HATIN' US!" American minds weaned on FOX six-second sound bites don't do the nuance of "God damn America because she has done some pretty shitty things that ought to make us all weep for the degradation of the principles on which she was founded," and if that nuance is delivered in the churchy sing-song cadence of the black pulpit, punctuated by soulful syncopated music and spoken by a black man in a strange outfit, then the familiar Scripture intoned by the fatherly white men is even more comforting, even if its used to promote Islamophobia, homophobia, anti-Semitism, and anti-Catholicism (which is also somewhat to familiar).
The other problem (seen it already in comments on other blogs): "But McCain didn't sit in either of those guys' churches for twenty years!" They are cynical enough to realize McCain sees neither Parsley nor Hagee as anything other than political chits (after all, lots of them don't really like McCain, he's not hellfire goddish enough for them, why would they think he espouses their hellfire goddishness?) But they'll readily believe that Obama attending Wright's church was akin to plugging in the probe from The Matrix and filling his skull with Weather Underground black power revolutionary separatism.
Barack Obama needs to win an election in a country where too many people think a common worldwide middle name shared with a former dictator and the lack of a Made in China piece of patriotic jewelry are dealbreakers, and that's without even mentioning the fact that he's a, well, a you-know. (It's funny that Clinton is essentially saying poor uneducated whites won't vote for the black guy, so you have to nominate me to beat McCain, when that same demo is not likely to pick the white woman over the white man. Is she assuming these people are racist, but not sexist, even as she complains the campaign has been unfair due to rampant sexism?) Obama has to win in a land where 16% of high school science teachers admit to believing Creationism.
My twin hopes for Obama are that #1) things have gotten so bad in this country that some people will have to hold their nose and vote against McCain and #2) so many young people, black people, and educated whites are desperate to get past America's legacy of ignorance and racism that they'll turn out in massive numbers while religious conservatives disaffected with McCain will stay home.
My twin fears for Obama are that #1) Hillary Clinton will poison the support for Obama up to and past the convention or #2) Hillary Clinton finds some new "math" that shows, electorally, she would win a three-way race against McCain and Obama and joins the Connecticut for Lieberman party and runs for president anyway.
Insane McCain needs to understand he must reject and condemn these two religious loonies beyond question. They are like toilet paper sticking to his shoe or worse. Not to do so and soon will show him yet again as out of touch.
