I know in thailand shoes and feet are very insulting. The Thai government blocked youtube because of a stupid video juxtaposing their king and some feet. On the other hand, most Americans or Britons would not be that insulted by shoes being thrown at them, thus the Bush Response.

How offensive are shoes in Chinese culture? I really have no idea, and this could be a case of insult mismatch.
