AMERICAblog: AP: Clinton's campaign "in the red" -- debts exceeds cash on hand

  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
So if Clinton drops out (one can hope) what happens to these debts of hers? Does she just wave to everyone and say bye or is she personally responsible for those debts. Can or will her 20 big spenders bail her out?
  • benjaminomeara · 1 year ago
I think there is a process where the campaign is responsible to pay its debts but I doubt she would have to pay it personally. I don't think that's how it works. From what I understand this kind of leftover debt can last for years. But generally they succeed in paying off that debt by continuing on with fundraisers after the campaign is over (some people think that's why she wants to stay in for as long as possible. Since her usual donors are maxed out, she needs the little people to chip in but they wouldn't unless they believed she had a chance). Arguably, one of the first moves of the reconciliation will be for Obama to help her pay off her campaign debt by asking us to chip in or something. Mark my words.

I actually think that John McCain has scheduled a fundraiser for the Clinton campaign sometime next week.

All that experience and she can't even balance her campaign budget.

    thanks!
  • benjaminomeara · 1 year ago
That explains why she waited until midnight the day before the primary to share those. Just in time so it does not make the morning paper.

I am so frustrated this kind of information does not filter down to most actual voters. It would have been over so much earlier if people took the time to KNOW.

We can do business with Andrew Sullivan.

    TNR Hit Piece

Andrew Sullivan rushed to the defense of his idol, I mean Obama. When one types all the time, sooner or later everything will be typed, and so Sullivan, in his fury against Kristol, typed this: "A non-Christian manipulator of Christianity is calling a Christian a liar about his faith."

This is a great story in so many ways. A former Catholic Bishop who left the church has won the presidential election in Paraguay. Unless Buush sends down a CIA hit squad, he may be selling the property he bought down there. It wouldn't be a safe haven to run to when he is indicted for war crimes either!

AP: Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton was endorsed Sunday by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, whose owner and publisher, billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife, personally funded many of the investigations that led to President Clinton's impeachment in 1998.

Can anyone bring a lawsuit against John McCain for breaking campaign finance laws?
How corrupt is the system when one candidate can operate outside of the law and no one questions this action?
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Hillary is toast. She is broke.

It's my understanding that the nominee generally helps the defeated candidates pay their campaign debts.
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
Clinton's in debt. Wherever the money went, she didn't spend it on nice clothes. (Meow!)
  • Smarmy · 1 year ago
Hillary thinks that by putting all her eggs in one basket (PA) the money will magically re-appear. What about 'defeat' doesn't she understand? She's bad for the country.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
Amazing what Obam has been able to do at the grass roots level. Pssst. I get hit up at least once a week...lol
  • dad · 1 year ago
Not worried. She has at least $100 Million available.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Perhaps her new friend Richard M. Schaife can loan her some money.
No wait, I forgot, she has over a hundred million dollars to dip into.
  • Clancy · 1 year ago
To be fair, Joe failed to mention Obama's almost $663k in debt . . . so the distance between he and Clinton isn't as far as it seems.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Good.

    Keep breaking her.

This still could last a long time.

You want her to pay for her stubborness.

He's a respected education authority who helped Mayor Daley turn around the Chicago school system.

What would the Clintons know about that.?

They've just gutted every school system they've been in charge of.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Mayor Daley released the following statement:

There are a lot of reasons that Americans are angry about Washington politics. And one more example is the way Senator Obama’s opponents are playing guilt-by-association, tarring him because he happens to know Bill Ayers.

I also know Bill Ayers. He worked with me in shaping our now nationally-renowned school reform program. He is a nationally-recognized distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois/Chicago and a valued member of the Chicago community.

I don’t condone what he did 40 years ago but I remember that period well. It was a difficult time, but those days are long over. I believe we have too many challenges in Chicago and our country to keep re-fighting 40 year old battles.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
As far as I remember, Hillary had a huge advantage over the other candidates.
She started running a long time ago, and had raised a lot of money.
If she is in the red, it means she is an awful Manager. She has run a horrible
campaign, resignations, etc., and she cannot control their spending.

Is this the way she will run her WH?
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
No, I don't think you can say she's an awful manager, because we can't forget that a huge part of all candidate's fundraising results cannot be used in the primaries.

If she were able to use her general election funds any time, she wouldn't be in the red, and let's be honest, NOBODY expected Obama to be doing this well last year.

Now, this does suggest that her campaign team isn't as adaptable as it should be, and that may be seen as something a President should be, but in terms of money management, I don't think that's the real issue this uncovers.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Short clip of Obama in Scranton (Hillary's claimed "third home"), talking about the loss of manufacturing and other jobs in the area.

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/21/1473/51...

When I see that, I just keep remembering back to 1992, when Bill Clinton ridiculed Paul Tsongas, who kept saying we needed to protect our industrial base.

Makes me sick to even think about it.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
A perfect example of how low the Clintons will go to win this, is the way they have embraced the very conservatives, who supported the impeachment of Bill Clinton, and attacked him unmercifully. Hillary and Bill are now sleeping with the enemy. Murdoch, Limbaugh, and now Richard Schaiffe. Schaiffes newspaper, has endorsed Hillary, and it just shows just how much the
right wingers want to run against Hillary. Who can blame them; they have so much more dirty to attack her with.

Is it true that when the Clintons were trying to deal with the Monica problem, they called in Rev. Jeremiah Wright for spiritual counseling??? If this is true why isn't it being thrown in Hillary's face every time she throws Rev. Wright in Obama's face? It is becoming more difficult to think about voting for Clinton should she get the nomination even if the only alternative is McCain.
  • Smuhamm · 1 year ago
Obama is not that kind of soul, HE TRULY IS FOR CHANGE IN POLITICS, and if we all also want change we can make it happen if we rally with him. He can not do it alone. Hillary knows what a good personal and agent for Change Obama is, but those who rule her will not let her throw in the towel before they have placed as much fear in every voting americans face.
  • Smuhamm · 1 year ago
when the Clintons were trying to deal with the Monica problem, they called in Rev. Jeremiah Wright for spiritual counseling???....IT IS TRUE, BILL CLINTON SENT HIM A PERSONAL LETTER THANKING HIM FOR HIS SUPPORT. REZKO that every one is talking about he has been in their Lives also, What you put out it seems comes back around to the Clintons, how do you think they know what to put out there, they had a part in it also, but the real RULERS of the Clinton machines only feeds you what they want you to know and we all get led the way they predicted it.

How can we trust Clinton with managing the US economy when she can't even manage her own campaign finances?
  • twin2den · 1 year ago
This is the main issue here! How can we trust someone to manage the American Budget when she cannot manage hers!
  • Mikki --SE Pennsylvania · 1 year ago
First thing that crossed my mind was to question whether all the suppliers to the Clinton campaign have yet been paid. Certainly I'd love to know if the ones in Pennsylvania have been paid. I don't know..does anyone?
Certainly that she has been endorsed by Scaife, an endorsement she obviously sought, means, without question, she has become The Great Whore and all these people who claim to support her need to know this; they need to know that the decent world will see their vote for Hillary as flushing any claimed concern for decency or family values or change right down the toilet: and the rest of the world will be taking notes how they voted. They will see they voted for same ole same ole Washington machine politics. It will be their votes that puts whoremonger Bill back in a sport where he can carry on more lechery on government property and most likely government expense.
In such a negative frame of mind, it also crossed my mind to wonder could the Clinton campaign, or perhaps covert operatives have offered disgraced ABC-Disney and its clowns a little help to arrange the clearly biased disaster that was passed off as a debate... or perhaps it was Stephi's apparent good buddy Sean from the established PR agency masquerading as a news network. Ole Hil will do anything for a dollar or anyone for a vote it would seem. She has become totally toxic maybe even moreso than her slimy hubby.

So, does Hillary really have something to hide?
Is Hillary Clinton for "The Citizens" of the U.S.A.? That is the function of the "President", or is it for personal gain? She never divulged the truth. Why should she start now? Just check the 1996 bill submitted to congress by Hillary Clinton and look who saved all America's butts, which includes all our children. Please begin your learning experience here: Congressional records of Hillary bill

The financial gap between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton has grown increasingly pronounced during the presidential primary season, and the Clinton campaign is now shouldering sizable debts to several key consultants and advisers, campaign records show. Clinton entered April with about $9.3 million in cash on hand, but she also carried about $10.3 million in debt. In contrast, Obama had $42.5 million available to spend at the start of April and reported $663,000 in unpaid bills. While debt owed to the firm run by the campaign's recently deposed top strategist, Mark Penn, began to accumulate a year ago, with $277,147 reported last April, his tab grew to $4.6 million by the end of March. Adviser Mandy Grunwald's consulting firm began extending services to Clinton's campaign more than a year ago, and is now owed $528,480, the report shows. Campaign finance experts said yesterday that large extended debts owed to professionals could create legal trouble for the campaign if they remain unaddressed. I m sure the day is not far when Clinton will have to read books on debt cures to recover from debts or to take help from several collection agencies.
