    "Carol McCain deserved it"-Jennifer Loven
  • matt222333 · 1 year ago
I read the whole AP analysis this post is refering to (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gaPBlQ3eWWae...) and it actually made me think higher of Barack Obama as an intelligent, pragmatic leader.

If you read between the lines here, you may read about a man willing to finetune his policies to achieve the best possible results... a leader willing to maintain some level of compromise, and thusly peace, among disparate forces here and abroad.

It does come off as a GOP hitjob in media clothing in some ways. But what Loven says is exactly what GOP types will try to do. And if the Obama supporters who read this piece can get over the thought of the AP as a Republican puppet, they may find some wisdom here and some ammunition of their own with which to fire back.

She even acknowledges closer to the end of her piece that one who avoids the role of the so-called flip-flopper is not always the better leader:

Obama has always said his promise to end the war would require consultations with military commanders and, possibly, flexibility. This, in fact, is the only reasonable stance for a U.S. commander in chief to take.

Call me crazy, but maybe if Communications types play their cards right, JUST MAYBE, U.S. voters might start to reject this notion that staying consistent on your positions no matter the shifting circumstances is a sign of strength -- and realize that this unwavering avoidance of the flip-flopper tag is what got us into all the myriad messes of the past eight years.

Someone should try giving him pretzels.

I keep thinking there must be a way to hold their feet to the fire when they lie and print such BS. I don't know what it is and I keep thinking there must be someone smarter then me that's come up with something, but so far I haven't found it. I remember last year when Tweety was so blatant someone started an anti-tweety website, maybe something like that would work now against the AP.

Anyone have any suggestions? Or the knowledge to set up a website? I'm a dunce about these things but have the time to spread the word if someone get's something going.

    start by emailing them:

    jloven@ap.org

lsidoti@ap.org (p.s. liz will respond. She's quite the smart ass)
  • kevinbgoode · 1 year ago
One suggestion is to opening criticize their reporting in your local newspaper, especially if the local media prints or broadcasts this nonsense. It would also be interesting to send emails or letters to state press associations asking them to explain why the Associated Press is used so much by state and local media when you believe their product is inherently biased.
  • Kewalo · 1 year ago
Good suggestion, thank you. It's been months since I've read the local paper, but I think I'll read it first thing now and comment if the coverage is too gawd awful.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Would these fine respectable journalists go so far as to tonge the old man McCain's 71 year old worn and torn anus?
  • foolme1ns · 1 year ago
More likely they are fighting for a seat on Grandpa's lap. You know, like that lobbyist girlfriend of his.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Loven's husband, Roger Ballentine, was a senior adviser to the John Kerry campaign in 2004 and is currently president of Green Strategies Inc, an environmental lobbying firm. Ballentine was a senior member of the Clinton White House staff, serving as chairman of the White House Climate Change Task Force and deputy assistant to the president for Environmental Initiatives. Prior to being named deputy assistant to the president, Ballentine was special assistant to the president for Legislative Affairs, where he focused on energy and environment issues.

The AP employs at least 4 notorious cockgobbling MediaWhores for McCain: Liz Sidoti; David Espo; Jennifer Loven; and Nedra Pickler (who is married to a Fox News employee). Rupert Murdoch is on the AP board. These filthy slime merchants will dedicate their efforts to maligning Obama....
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
The rightwing nutbags hate Jennifer Loven as much as they hate Roger Ballentine...in their view, the AP was Kerry's lapdog:

    http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/007958.php

Loven may just be smarting over Hillary Clinton not getting the nomination, though...or maybe she's just not very smart.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
Maybe she is a for profit journalsit willing to sell her print to the highets bidder.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Yes, you may be right...after all, those "power couples" seem to be willing to do anything if the money is right...principles be damned.

Obama is considering making a big speech by Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, a la Kennedy & Reagan. I think it's a great idea. He would look very presidential, show how Europeans love him, and give a boost to one of my favorite European cities with a popular gay mayor (Paris, Berlin & Hamburg all have gay mayors).

This type of stuff is going to ruin Obama. This is exactly what happened to Kerry. It seemed that all of this negative reporting was against Kerry until his numbers went down. Obama better figure this out soon.

    OT -

Glen Greenwald nils it again n FISA.

    http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/07/...

Obama is now part of the crowd not consisting of commoners and his kneling before his masters on FISA sealed the deal. Obama will not be change!

The storyline is fixed and Bo McPeep must have her sheep...
Sad, too, that the tale's as old as the gelded, passé maverick...

I expect nothing less from our so called "liberal media". Liberal my ass. And another thing that the media seems to have forgotten to mention - at least I haven't seen anything on it yet - the fact that that fat, pompous, lying little shit Karl Rove has basically taken over running McBush's campaign. Turdblossom is fully in charge and I haven't heard a peep from the press.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
It seems the media is ramping up their inaccurate reporting. I have noticed this since last week. Obama makes a statement, McCain twists the words. The press is putting Obama in a defensive position. Last week he called two press conferences to clarify his position on Iraq because the press printed McCain's twisted version of what Obama had said.

The press was unmerciful in reporting on John Kerry and the same seems to be true for Obama. God help us if the press continues in this manner.

Josh over at TPM has an update to this:
    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/202874.php

Alex Conant, another AP hack, has just penned a similar piece, once again quoting directly a GOP operative and the article is apparently just a re-run of the Loven piece by another journalist.

This is exactly what I predicted would happen back when the media shoved Edwards out of the race by ignoring him and not giving him the coverage he should have received at the beginning of the Democratic primary.

I said then, and I repeat, the corporate MSM will do everything in their power to see that their intere$t$ are protected. It has been interesting, in the intervening months, to see precisely that scenario played out. I am not in the least bit surprised. It is exactly as I predicted. And it will only get worse, not better--because no one is able to stop them.

Along with our democracy, the Bush/Cheney juggernaut has killed all responsible journalism in this country by purchasing them on the "free market." The U.S. was an interesting experiment. Too bad that greed is stronger than any ideals.
  • tbhull · 1 year ago
It's all a game for the media for each will result in the same old same old. Yes we can, bu the change will not be meaningful.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Fortunately, newspaper (and Broder) readership is plummeting.
  • vwcat · 1 year ago
Joe, I think it's time we start to do some pushing back. The press gets rattled every time the netroots organize and start making noise. A few of us sending letters to the editor is not going to cut it.
NY times is writing snarky articles again tonight about Obama. Zelney is going over the edge in his McCain love by targeting Obama everyday now.
Don't you think it's time for the bloggers to get together and begin calling for some email bombs and addresses provided to the ones who need to be reminded that we are watching and are not going to sit by while they decide to destroy our nominee while promoting the republicans again.
  • WDemDem · 1 year ago
Christ did any of you actually think it would be any different than this? They're attacking and Obama is doing nothing. Another Democratic party disaster in the making. Isn't this the guy that was going to save us all from the GOP???
  • maurerguy · 1 year ago
"Obama hasn't endeared himself to them"

I suggest we quickly dismiss 2 myths:
    1) There is some communications strategy which Kerry, Dukakis, etc, didn't get which will ingratiate Dems with the corporate media.
    2) The corporate media will ever do anything but respond as a business enterprise to major national events, including presidential elections. They are not liberal or conservative; they are businesses, driven by profit, and their profit generally increases when the more pro-business party is in power.

This election, like every other, will be decided based on
    a) intense organizing to reach and get out every possible voter
    b) careful attention to what the opposition is doing, esp. to intimidate voters of color and play with the machine results;
    c) the courage to fight bogus results.

Gore lacked b) and c); Kerry lacked c). If you want to scold or put pressure on Obama, focus on what he does on November 5, the day after the election. Tell him that if the election is stolen, you will stand up with him for the Constitution.
