AMERICAblog: At some point, we were all that shoe

  • jeffg166 · 1 year ago
I can just see the scene on inauguration day when he walks out onto the stage, a hail of shoes from the crowd as a greeting.
  • intrigued · 1 year ago
as soon as Obama is sworn in and W. is no longer pres, whammo, he's bomarded with shoes!!
  • Rab · 1 year ago
Good for the Iraqi, the psychopath (president) thinks it's a joke like usual.
  • 1st Republic 14th Star · 1 year ago
Hitting someone with your show or making him touch the bottom of your shoe is the ultimate insult in Arab cultures. Think of Saddam creating the hotel lobby mosaic of George H.W. Bush -- he was insulting Bush by having people touch Bush's likeness with their shoe soles.

Hitting someone with a shoe is a statement that the person being struck is the lowest of the low -- someone who's beneath contempt.

Good reflexes for a guy his age.. i suppose he's had a lot of experience ducking things.. shoes.. responsibility.. criminal charges..
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
I was about to say the same thing. He's like a grifter -- as long as they don't catch you, you're safe to grift another day.

today, we are all shoe throwers.

A sad commentary on our current president, but darn it, hands down the biggest laugh I've had in days.

    Thanks!

For being a lame duck, Bush movies pretty quickly.
  • Msinformed · 1 year ago
This is the sign I have been waiting for!!! What form will our protests to the Stupid-ass Bush Apologia Library take? SHOES!!! When your shoes are shot and that monument to intransigent incompentence masquerading as morality has aquired a mailing address....SEND TONS OF SHOES TO HIS LIBRARY!!!
Goddamn Bush to hell for his maladministration.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Bush sure could have handled that situation a lot better....instead of trying to make a joke.......but then again he is the joke......

I read that Dana Perino got a black eye in the scuffle that ensued.....can't say I feel bad for either one of them...

Michael Ware on CNN had a hard time keeping the grin off his face....

Calling Bush a dog is an insult to dogs everywhere.
  • Bubbles · 1 year ago
    How 'soleful'.

Nikita Khrushchev invented shoe politics. He was way ahead of his time. But somewhere he's smiling tonight.

    Thanks again, Niki.
  • HereinDC · 1 year ago
    Did anyone hear Bush?
He sounds like an old drunk.
And he looked like and old drunk....

messed up hair. Anyone else notice how is hair is not groomed or cut properly?

Really, he kind of slurred his speech more than usually...and then he had that glazed drunk look on his face /yes.....yes I know...he always looks like that.....but now it's become more obvious.
  • RitornaVincitor · 1 year ago
Yep. He is an old drunk. But of course he will claim that he is not old.
  • kafka · 1 year ago
What will happen to the shoe thrower? Gitmo? I like the idea of sending old shoes to the bush library or now to the Whitehouse. I was thinking that maybe we should not be so excited about "the president" being "assaulted". And I would be outraged if it was done to Obama. However, I then realized that people don't throw things at the world most powerful person if that person has an ounce of respectability. So, bully for the journalist.
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
Reminds me of an old time comedian who used to say "Missed it by thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis much."

    I love it!
  • 2008 · 1 year ago
Yes, that custom of the soles of your shoes representing the lowest
of the low is pretty well-established in about half of the world!

And truly, Bush is "BENEATH CONTEMPT," to say the least!
That's not political, that's just fact.

It's disgusting to have him even show his face on "our behalf."
He deserves far worse than a shoe demonstration.

We need to sic any remaining good U.S. Attys. (OH THAT'S RIGHT, BUSH FIRED/OFFED MOST OF OUR BEST PROSECUTORS!) after Bush and Cheney for their numerous violations of law and international treaties.

Obama KNOWS they have broken just about every Law they could... now what will really happen??...
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago

Must come from ducking punches from Laura

As my Mediterranean-isle born bf just opined- oh yeah, the biggest insult, unless he could get close enough to piss on or near GWB.

Security probably beat the snot out of the guy in the hallway. Can we ascertain what is happening to this brave soul?
  • RainbowPhoenix · 1 year ago
Too bad the guy didn't have better aim.
  • ahrcanum · 1 year ago
I will never ever, ever be that shoe. While I can disagree, I always respect the office and the man who holds that office. The shoe thrower was in jail once, let's see how he likes it a second time. Pretty quick moves !
  • 2008 · 1 year ago
The creature who holds and regularly abuses the office STOLE that office and billions from our Treasury, hundreds of thousands of lives, and enabled millions of lost jobs. And because our country has become composed of complacent, unprincipled, frightened little wimps, he's getting away with it.

Sometimes you have to stand up to the REAL criminal, even if it takes a sacrifice.

I have far more respect for this shoe thrower than I'll ever have for Bush and his kind... By the way, Bush's cocaine possession, DUIs, AWOL status, SEC violations, and countless other criminal activities should have put in the slammer for much of his life & prevented his nomination (but daddy Bush and his dirty money bailed him out).
  • woodnthrifty · 1 year ago
Maybe the Iraqies can try him as a war criminal after the war.
  • Msinformed · 1 year ago
    Please, please, please please!!!
  • Rab · 1 year ago
Respect the office but you have to be joking about respecting the man.
  • Gary SF · 1 year ago
You're kidding, right? Respecting 'the office' is how we got into this mess. This is why I fucking hate middle America. Still mired in 20th century thinking, while 21st century politician are fleecing you.
  • humpman · 1 year ago
I also respect the office of President and this man stole it not once but twice. He has not done one thing to earn my respect. I am definitely that shoe!
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
this phrase ranks right up there with "love the sinner, hate the sin"
    BS.

  • Jim Olson · 1 year ago
For the rest of his life, we should organise shoe throwing parties. Except on Inauguration Day.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
Don't want to waste your own shoes? Pick up a pair (the worst they have) from a thrift store...a pair of dirty, cruddy, smelly ones would be the ticket, preferably size 10, to show solidarity with the journo and the Iraqi people, and your utter disdain for The Chimp.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
As they were torturing the man, Bush made sure they had the right guy by giving the shoe size. What a guy!!!!

"The man was dragged from the news conference screaming. As the man continued to scream from another room, Bush said: "That was a size 10 shoe he threw at me, you may want to know.""

  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
Yeah, that joke will go down in history along side the "Nope, no WMDS here, or here, or here" joke. What a jolly ol' fool...
  • RitornaVincitor · 1 year ago
Somebody should organize a "Mail your old shoes to the White House" drive. It could be our parting gift to dear old George.
  • fl79tr · 1 year ago
Damn it that's a great Idea!
  • Msinformed · 1 year ago
Save the shoes for his dumb-ass library.
  • woodroad34 · 1 year ago
The Iraqi President just stands there while Bush ducks. Some leader of the free world. Couldn't the mighty Dubya, just catch the shoe? Wasn't he the owner of a baseball team? What a joke, an ass, a real dummer azel.
  • RitornaVincitor · 1 year ago
Whoever the journalist was that threw those shoes, the guy deserves the Congressional Metal of Honor! And Bush's dimwitted and slightly slurred response only proves how right the Iraqi was to offer Bush the ultimate in disrespect. All you folks going to the Inauguration next month should start working on your aim right now.
  • Older_Wiser · 1 year ago
    Speaking truth to power...

CNN: The shoe-thrower -- identified as Muntadhar al-Zaidi, an Iraqi journalist with Egypt-based al-Baghdadia television network -- could be heard yelling in Arabic: "This is a farewell ... you dog!"

While pinned on the ground by security personnel, he screamed: "You killed the Iraqis!"

(al Baghdadia has demanded al Zaidi's release; he was kidnapped and held for 3 days previously in Iraq.)

Before we go down the path of prohibition, let's remember that shoes don't kill people; people with shoes kill people. As for all who are saying that Bush has good reflexes, I'm pretty sure that he gets a lot of practice from Laura, who, in justifiable fits of anger, probably throws a lot of stuff at him.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
What the hell is the significance of them being size 10 shoes? Was he implying that the guy had small feet? Isn't size 10 a pretty average size?
  • intrigued · 1 year ago
that's the highest Bush can count.

Seven years of training and they still have shitty aim. And what is it with Muslims and the attraction to using shoes as an attack apparatus ( shoe bombs, etc)?
  • Griffon · 1 year ago
Well, of course bush recognized the shoe size immediately...it's the same size he's been chewing on for years.
  • austrinrunn · 1 year ago
Not that I'm looking to criticize Bush on this but....

He didn't dodge the second shoe. The guy just plain missed. Watch the video and you can see it almost grazes Bush's ear. Another inch or two over and it hits Bush right in the face.

I'm really glad the guy missed, I truly am. And Bush did dodge the first shoe - but not the second.

Oh well. Who cares - let the man have credit for dodging a shoe. It's the first problem he's seen coming and actually reacted to in advance.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
Yeah, I'm not looking to critcize him either. I've had eight friggin years to do that.
  • Johnny · 1 year ago
The part that I find interesting is that the guy is leaving office after 8 f*cked up years and the best thing anyone has to say about him is he was able to dodge a shoe.
Damn... talk about lowering the bar!!!
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
Would love to see Helen Thomas reenact this for us at a White House Press Conference before Jan. 20. Letterman and Leno will have a helluva lot of fun with this one.
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
HAHA Hellen could throw her tasteful, sensible, pump. I bet she has better aim.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
She would'nt miss, would she? She has good reason to land a lump.
  • MNPundit · 1 year ago
Yeah I empathize with the guy, but I realized something as I watched the vid: as much as I dislike Bush I don't wish physical violence on him and I'm glad he was able to duck. He should stand trials for his actions, not attacked outside the law.

That said, isn't getting a shoe thrown at you an insult in ANY culture? And isn't calling someone a dog an insult in any culture? (Even if you say it approvingly, it's still like calling someone a bastard approvingly. Yes you mean it positively but it's still an insult word.)
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
Oh please! He has had people tortured! A little knock in the head wouldn't hurt all that bad.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Getting a shoe thrown at you in the middle east is about the worst insult possible. Remember when Bu$hco. was laughing about all the people who were taking their shoes off and beating Saddam Hussein's paintings and statues with them? Granted, Saddam deserved it but that is basically what just happened to Bush. He just got the WORST insult imaginable in Middle Eastern cultures.

By the way, what is it about the Right Wing's vampire-esque reflexes? First, Ann Coulter shoots away from a pie, and now Bu$h? Are they all nosferatu?
  • tlsintx · 1 year ago
George W. Bush...may you flinch all the rest of your days, always expecting the next shoe to fly!
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
What if: The entire White House Press Corps reached down at the same time and took off a shoe at the last press conference?

or at the Inauguration as bushoover's car passed by, everybody threw a shoe?

    How fitting.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Anyone who thinks Bu$h deserves credit for dodging the shoe is missing the point. In fact, it might have been better had the shoes hit him. If so, the Iraqi's might have had some vicarious shadenfreude from watching him get hit by the shoe. It might have releaved some anger and frustration by the Iraqis. The fact the shoes were thrown is the HUGE story, and can't be underestimated. That kind of insult is HUGE and represents a huge loss and total reversal of the propaganda that was trying to be shown to the world by Bu$h's last visit to Iraq. Oops...

Instead of thinking about it from a Neocon Republican perspective, "Thank God our messiah wasn't hurt!" Think about it from an Iraqi's. "Damn, he missed! It was a great insult but he missed! We need to get to show them how insulted, and disgusted we are by their war that destroyed our country!" Now that is what is going on in the mind's of Iraqis. If Bu$h were assaulted by a pair of shoes in the Green Zone, how safe would it be for our American President outside a "safe" room in the Green Zone? Says a lot about the failure of Bu$hco.'s War on Terra'.
  • FoxinSocks · 1 year ago
As a couple of other posters have pointed out, throwing shoes in Arab culture is a grave insult. It's the sort of thing reserved for thieves and prostitutes. After the fall of Saddam's regime, Baath officials were beaten with shoes as well, so the gesture has a couple of layers of meaning.
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
theives and prostitutes? So we need to throw shoes at the entire bushoover administration?

It's really phenomenal, that footage, has an american president ever been this publicy disrespected (deservedly)? I'm just glad it was captured on film for the world to relish. I agree with the youtube commenter who said 'part of me laugs and part of me cries'.

one of my work colleagues says that the journalist said: "Here's your goodbye present. You're a dog."
Apparently this is not a compliment in arabic.
  • Dwayne Decker · 1 year ago
I'm sorry it didn't hit him. How awesome would it have been if W had spend the rest of his term with a bandage on his nose like Jack Nicholson in Chinatown?
  • RitornaVincitor · 1 year ago
To me this says it all. Someone hurls the greatest insult at Bush for those who died in his war, and Bush responds with a joke.

From AP: "This is your farewell kiss, you dog!" shouted the protester in Arabic, later identified as Muntadar al-Zeidi, a correspondent for Al-Baghdadia television, an Iraqi-owned station based in Cairo, Egypt. "This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq."

Bush ducked both shoes as they whizzed past his head and landed with a thud against the wall behind him.

"It was a size 10," Bush joked later.."

The idiots here who think the shoe-throwing incident was cool are, well, idiots. America was attacked directly during the incident. Additionally, the President went out of his way to visit the Iraqi people and tell them the endgame is at hand. If it weren't for the American invasion, many of the other idiots in the crowd would have been hung by Saddam. Too bad Saddam didn't get hold of many of the posters here!
  • JamesR · 1 year ago
Bush & Co. directly attacked this country when they stole two elections shredded the Constitution ruined the WORLD economy started two wars AND LOST THEM through post invasion utter incompetence and let the main port for US grain drown because it was filled with niggers. [their words and justifications, honestly stated.] Consequently MILLIONS are dead and millions more are poor and the USA has become a hated foolish oppressor.

At this point a shoe thrown at President Bush is not a shoe thrown at America nor the Presidency, but at Bush and his MONUMENTAL CRIMES and we all know this. Pontificate and feign patriotic offense all you like, this 'assault' didn't occur in a vacuum.
