AMERICAblog: Because McCain has nothing to offer this country, the full brunt of the ugly, negative attacks are on the way

OT, but a great article from Media Matters, showing the McCain campaign is full of lobbyist. Click on the names in the graph.

This article by Glenn Greenwald demonstrates that McCain loses support when Iraq is discussed:

McCain: insecure small bully who lunges chaotically at opponent with ax.

Obama: secure stealthy fighter who knifes opponent, who dies not knowing how he bled to death.

Reminds me of that ad McCain ran after the GOP convention, when he had his little bump. It was about the "attacks" on Palin and accused Obama "As he drops in the polls, he will try to destroy her". (may not be exact, I'm working from memory) Rather ironic isn't it?
  • Deacon_Blues · 1 year ago
The real question is, will the MSM take the bait? The way I see it, they can cover it as: a) John McCain is running a negative campaign, or b) Obama/Osama? Wright? Ayers? Obama in trouble. They'll either take one side or the other, all the while saying how even-handed they are. I'm going out on a limb here, but I think if we fight back, tough and smart, that the media will take our side in this (which is to say, they'll tell the truth for once - with the exception of Facist Fox). They're not stupid; they're all about making money, and they see which way the wind is blowing in this country -- they want to be "popular" (thus the years of McCain barbeque in the village), and the way to be popular this time around is to just be fair. Doesn't sound like much, and you'd think any self-respecting journalist would want this, but the past eight -- hell, 16 years -- puts the lie to that. I'm cautiously optimistic, though.

Attack adds will further flame the GOP illiterates - perhaps grab a few more Joe Six-packs. I think this latest theft of $1.5 trillion from the Treasury was a grand finale - the GOP is going down in flames. A false flag now may or may not have the desired results. A theft of the upcoming election may now be out of reach.

Lately, the dittoheads I have been running into have been "raging mad" - knowing I believe that they are going down. How wonderful it is to see a right winger pissed off. A raging mad rePIG is more beautiful then the most beautiful flower. Too bad Obama won't shove a liberal agenda down their throats like the Bush crime dynansty did to us with the right wing agenda in 2000. I would settle for keeping them out of power for the next 30 years.

Beware. Propaganda will still be with us - until we filter out the fascist among us. We will regain our Democracy and our standing in the world when (1) we redress the lies of the past, and (2) regain a Press that is predominately truth telling who thereby restores our 1st Amendment protections against tyrannical (GOP) rule.

McCain's top foreign policy advisor feels that McCains affair with a Brazillian decades ago qualifies as experience.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/03/mccain...

Sen. John McCain's senior foreign policy adviser cites a steamy romance 50 years ago with a Brazilian babe among the things that illustrate the candidate's decades-long interest in Latin America.

Speaking at an Americas Conference panel discussion Friday on the next U.S. president's Latin American policy, McCain advisor Richard Fontaine started out by mentioning an old Brazilian flame of McCain's, who recently emerged in the press.

I guess that also qualifies him on Brazilian bikini waxing as well. What a desperate, strange bunch of fuckers running his campaign.

here's the problem with attacking obama at this point. voters have pretty much decided who they prefer to fix the mess. they may have reservations, but they have their preference. from here on out, they want encouragement, not uncertainty. there will be a big push back against GOP sleaze.

I am confused. Haven't the Republicans achieved just about everything they wanted? They are the anti-Robin Hoods and have stolen (with help from the Dems) from the working class to the rich and have destroyed the country. The country is quickly losing its "superpower" tag.
  • BarrieT · 1 year ago
I think Republican plan A is to lose this time. I'm sure they also have a plan for power, but that is the contingency plan.
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
Some of my GOP relatives were calling him the Bob Dole even back in the primaries. I think they think that Rush and his ilk will just nail Obama badly four years enough and blame ALL the Bush crap enough to swing over the ignorant white trash again.

The evil McStain lies were thick in the Cincinnati market this morning but for every one there was an Obama spot...The new Obama spot about Johnny's tax on employer-provided health coverage is very good, clean simple and to the point.
I wonder if Johnny realizes how much he's turned off Republican women with this behavior and, of course, the classless and trashy Mooselini?

I think it's perfect that McCain/Palin is going to go vile right now. I'm thinking it's going to be their Month of Living Dangerously.
  • butchcjg · 1 year ago
Obama should run a proactive ad, I think. The ad should be him, just saying something like "We've got one month to go in this race and we're doing well. But, I want you to know that John McCain and the Republicans have only one strategy left: to start running sleazy ads. Be on the lookout for them. They will go to any length to try and win this thing and since they are wrong on the issues, lies and mistruths are the only chance they have." It'll take the sting out and make people leery from the get go.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
Um, wasn't John McCain the guy who promised to run a respectful campaign about the issues?
  • kirkaracha · 1 year ago
    McCain Memo: 'Respectful Campaign':

"Throughout the primary election we saw John McCain reject the type of politics that degrade our civics, and this will not change as he prepares to run head-to-head against the Democratic nominee.
    ...
Overheated rhetoric and personal attacks on our opponents distract from the big differences between John McCain's vision for the future of our nation and the Democrats'.
    ...
Throughout his life John McCain has held himself to the highest standards and he will continue to run a respectful campaign based on the issues."
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
    To quote Dick Cheney: "So."
  • AdrianBrowne · 1 year ago
    My worst fear:

Hillary going around claiming that mathematically McCain could still win and that if you cumulatively add up all the votes he's gotten over his career he would have more votes than Obama.

"The MCain campaign will get ugly ....."

What do yo they mean "WILL GET" it "HAS BEEN" throughout the campaign. From the very start McCain has had no substance to base his campaign on . All that remains is CHARACTER ASSASINATION AND LIES.
  • vwcat · 1 year ago
Obama is unveiling a tough hit at McCain in Va. today and has 4 ads rolling out on McCain's health care and plan to tax it.
Obama is ready to nail McCain but, on issues.
  • katiec · 1 year ago
I think the American people are sick of Mccain/palin, republicans party
    dirty campaigning.
The man does nothing but lie, distort, attack.
We cannot let a man who has thrown away all honor, integrity
to try and win run our country.
    We are not stupid.

    Joe

Here in Denver the McCain campaign has stepped the attack ads. During prime time the attack ads are on almost every 30 minutes and now I see they have also started the ads early in the morning. The attack ads are generally the same thing, higher taxes and lack of support for the military. So far there are no real slime ads (I mean other than the outright lies) but I am sure those are coming.

In the mean time Obama's ads are going the opposite direction. There have been some attack ads on McCain but I have noticed an increasing frequency of ads featuring Obama and his plan for America.

I would guess the McCain ads are about 4 to 1 or 5 to 1 more than Obama's
  • imjussayin · 1 year ago
I have faith tha Obama and his campaign knew this was going to happen from the moment he annouced his candidacy. They will be prepared.
  • Oldnovice · 1 year ago
I totally agree; everything is working according to plan, right down to the part where the McCain campaign resorts to the kitchen sink strategy. Remember how well that one worked for Hillary?
  • halfcreek · 1 year ago
At some point in the debate, Obama should say, "Eight years ago, John, you had just won New Hampshire and with a victory in South Carolina the Republican nomination would have been yours. Bush and Rove were desperate and launched one of the slimiest attacks ever on you and your family, accusing you of fathering a black love child. Now that same team of slime artists is running your campaign, orchestrating similar attacks against me. You are a better man than that, John McCain. Americans are not going to be fooled again by attempts to distract from the real issues that are affecting their lives........

There is a lot at stake this year and despite the latest polls, we need to keep the ground game going. We have already seen the Supreme Court overturn years of precedent and take a turn radically to the right. If McCain wins, this right wing tilt of the court will continue as the probability is high that one of the remaining progressive justices will retire. If this happens, Roe V Wade will be overturned and our individual rights to privacy (i.e. the 14th amendment’s due process clause) will be in jeopardy. Corporations will continue to gain power over individuals and we can forget about civil-unions/marriages that are based on love not gender. We will continue down a path, started by our current president, towards a theocratic-plutocracy (the Handmaid’s Tale anyone....). Don’t believe me and think McCain is not a christo-racist-fascist intent on continuing the current administration’s policies - see the video below:

I think Americans have McCain/Palin figured out now. The negative ads may sway a few back to them, but the numbers are there for Obama/Biden. Unless they pull off another heist like '00, we'll have our President Obama.

The ugly, negative attacks are occurring in Pakistan as we speak..er post. Bush approved Pakistan strikes in July and they are escalating. The goal of the strikes is to announce that Osama has been killed at the politically appropriate time. This is the game-changer of last resort. Osama is still needed alive if McCain wins so the wars can continue, but if it's clear McCain is going to lose anyway, the Osama tool will be sacrificed in hopes of turning the electorate.
I'm guessing we will see a fuzzy picture from a drone of a tall man in a turban getting his head blown off and that will suffice. There is an outside chance Osama will be captured alive but highly doubtful. I don't see a way that Obama can prepare for these events but hopefully he can.
  • douge · 1 year ago
As disgusting as the Swiftboating of Kerry was I say go there if McC's negativity works. Fire with fire. Here's an ad:

Did you know that John McC graduated at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy?
Did you know that John McC crashed 5 jets before finally being captured in the war? What a waste of tax payer money.
Maybe John McC wasn't such a crap soldier he could have been fighting the the good fight...instead of just sitting it out.

    Don't forget about:

    Obama's Fight the Smears website

    http://fightthesmears.com/

    It's very good.
  • Wild_Weasel · 1 year ago
This is a GREAT site. But it doesn't cover the smears related to Obama, Democrats and the economic meltdown. Is there another site, or could they put something up there?
  • PhilipGraham · 1 year ago
McCain already knows he's lost the election, or at least that this is by far the most likely outcome. Witness the pullout from Michigan. He and his top folks have had some hard talk.

That's why the poor sucker was so angry this past week--he knows his life-long dream is toast.

I think the negative stuff coming is mainly for the down ticket races. If Obama wins big, in a big surge of votes, then the Republicans running for Senator, Representative and you name it will likely be swamped too. The negative tone is an attempt to stanch the bleeding, avoid veto-proof majorities in both houses of congress from being racked up, etc.
  • Wild_Weasel · 1 year ago
We are already receiving email and materials from Republican relatives and friends who are pointing out how Clinton and the Democrats created this massive economic meltdown, and tarring Obama with associates they allege are ringleaders in this economic debacle.

There needs to be a single source that Progressives can turn to that lists the FACTS by subject, so we can refute these outrageous attacks.

The mud is slinging fast and furious.

There's a question that Palin will never be asked to answer, but which is absolutely essential in her claim that she's qualified to be V.P.:

If elected, you will swear before God to protect and defend the Constitution. Can you tell us what is contained in the Constitution that you will have sworn to protect and defend?
