AMERICAblog: Because of Congressional Oversight, F.A.A. is finally getting around to making sure airlines are complying with safety.

so would it be unreasonable to think that all this "laxness" with regards to airline safety was in hopes of some "misfortune" to befall a few planes that could then be blamed on "terrorists", in furtherance of their constitution shredding?

A week ago I was getting ready to make flight arraignments to fly to Dallas today; I decided it was too close to my son's first child's birth and decided against it. The flight I would have taken was one of those canceled. I am so glad I didn't hit submit.

Awe,mirth, you're right; the misery in Iraq can't compare to the misery of late flights and high gas prices. /snark.

Thanks, FunMe, but the baby isn't born yet. It's a boy and he will be joining us anytime over the next couple of weeks. I can't wait to finally meet him.

I was walking my dog on Silverstrand Beach in Oxnard CA (right by the Hueneme Naval Base) as that Alaska Airlines flight went down - all us doggie walkers watched in horror as the plane dove into the ocean. I didn't go back to that beach for months - they were pulling bodies out of the ocean for days.
It was years before I could bring myself to get on a plane again. I actually drove 8 hours each way to SLC rather than fly. And then my first flight from Montana to Long Beach this last January was a nightmare - return flight had me detained by the TSA because the dufus Delta agent didn't know how to print out the right boarding pass. I thought as I was ordered to sit down and wait in a corner that I now knew why the Jewish people got on the trains, and the Japanese American citizens left their homes for a concentration camp. We're only a tiny sliver away from the fascists.....

It is the same as the credit meltdown. Don't do any oversight for years, then it all comes crashing down on the little people.

Drudge carries a headline about the "misery" these flight cancellations are causing.

Ask the citizens of Iraq about misery.
