AMERICAblog: Before obsessing about Zogby's latest tracking poll, read Nate Silver's analysis of how "his topline numbers are unusable"

there was an item on Daily Kos about a week ago on Zogby... he's been doing push polling... here's the link...

It's funny how we make fun of freepers who don't believe polls they don't like, but then we happily do the same thing.

Ummm, when the freepers make a fuss it's usually based on just not liking the result... when we make a fuss it's usually tied to faulty methodology, blatant skewing, or in the case of Zogby his poor record in 2004, and now his push polling...

They always have Zogby on C Span in the morning on Washington Journal......I've wondered why they have him on given that since 2004 he doesn't have a very good reputation for accuracy.

Joe & John, the NYT is going to publish an article on McCain's health tomorrow... both he and Palin have refused to supply medical records for review to the physician(s) writing the article... both Obama and Biden supplied theirs for review...

Polling is big business. It's always good to be "within the margin of error" when going into an election. That makes for repeat business. Kerry's washed up; but, Zogby is not...

I've been saying this all along, really we shouldnt be getting caught up in the polls at ALL, even when they say what we want to hear. They just dont mean very much.

A right-wing consultant friend (25 years in D.C.) told me today that he is now thinking that McCain has a chance, based on the Zogby Poll. He said he had been resigned to an Obama presidency for the past two weeks. For whatever that's worth. He also quoted Gallup as narrowing, but I couldn't find anything except the opposite (Obama up by 10%) ... His remarks were hanging like a cloud until I saw this post tonight, here. I still don't think the pollsters are taking into account the huge numbers of people who only use cell phones. Also, Obama is getting crowds ten or twenty times larger than the Palin/McCain mannequins. I predict landslide for Obama, even if they do manage to Diebold the numbers.
Without poll numbers bouncing around there would be no public attention to in the polls. Without public attention to the polls there would be no profit for pollsters. Without profit for the pollsters the pollsters would have to go get jobs.
That doesn't work out for the pollsters so the poll numbers bounce around to create attention. It's like so many other things, spin creates motion and people look at things that are in motion.

i've heard John Zogby on sean hannity's radio show...he's biased as they come. he's trying to make it turn out like he wants.

Zogby on Hannity. That's it, I am hitting the spam button when I get his emails. Besides, I am still annoyed with his Kerry prediction.

zogby's latest is doubly interesting to me since i am one of those who regularly get asked to respond to his polls... i answer the same way every time - democrat, progressive/liberal, obama, obama/biden, and, no, i don't like nascar... i have probably responded to at least two dozen of his polls, the exceptions being when he is polling about some opinions of consumer products, a topic i consider to verge on obscene... when i received the latest, the results of which you cite here, i had the gut feeling that, unlike most, this one would end up showing a diminishing obama lead and would be picked up by the GRWC and trumpted across the media... when i saw the newsmax headline this morning (yes, i confess, i get the newsmax emails too), i knew that's exactly what happened...
beware, folks... along with the acorn lies, we are being set up for another stolen election... unless obama wins by such an overwhelming margin that it's "unstealable," we are very likely to face scenarios that repeat the horrors of 2000 and 2004...
Rushshshshshsh Limbaughghghghghghgh said on Friday that the polls from AP show Obama ahead only two points, a statistical tie. Of course, Limbaugh is NEVER wrong, just like Schrub. Actually, I'd like to see how much money he sucks out of rednecks who believe him, and corporate sponsors who pour money on his noise machine.
