AMERICAblog: Benedict blows off Bush

  • grandma · 1 year ago
I believe it was Palm Sunday that the Pope said..."the slaughter in Iraq has got to stop"....

I wish the Pope would say that to Bush's face while he is here.........not that Bush gives a damn.
  • PeteWa · 1 year ago
And after Bush granted Pope Ratzinger immunity for his hand in shuffling around the pedophile priests, and helping Bernard Law keep all the child raping priests in "touch" with the kids!
    Where is the gratitude?

I guess it comes down to physics: magnets of the same polarity repeal each other. :-)

Pope? To me, an 81 yr old white man is just another 81 yr old white man...

A plenary indulgence to the first American sinner to egg Benedict...a physical ascent into Heaven for an egg and Hollandaising of the power and clothes mad pontiff...

So, even the Nazi pope can't be seen with W.

That must really torque Prescott and Poppy.
They worked SO HARD to be good, behind-the-scenes-Nazis.

Now that W has shown the world he IS A NAZI, the jig is up and even they must shun him.

    Shun shun shun.
  • SINGING_TROLL · 1 year ago
How messed up must you be when even the Pope won't hear your confession-ssssssssssssssss?
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
Wow, HBO posted the entire broadcast of Friday's Real Time with Bill Maher up on YouTube. Watch it. Bill has a great panel and interviews Richard Dawkins, the author of God Delusion.

Actually the WH dinner conflicted with an all-boy nude black mass in Williamsburg...priorities girls...I mean Ratzie's got herself sum new Versace black mini-vestments and a craving for Jack Armstrong ala St. Sebestian.

Under the category of oddly convoluted rules of etiquette, this is one for the history books. What would Miss Manners say?
  • Jim Olson · 1 year ago
It's actually a huge snub. The Pontiff is a Head of State as well as being the leader of the world's Catholics. There should have been a full-on State Dinner in his honor. The Chimperor is getting the cold shoulder, and it speaks volumes.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Ha, ha! I knew it. Lucifer is a different demon of evil than Satan and they hate each other.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!
  • Tom3 · 1 year ago
The Pope is doing this because he doesn't want to break bread with a torturer. Chimpy admitted he okayed torture. The Pope doesn't like it.

More people need to snub the Chimp and let him know that he is not acceptable in polite society.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
The explanation of his absence is much more provocative. It has been reported the plans to ship the young "Boys Ranch" boys to the White House for a naked Birthday romp through the White House with his "emminence" fell through. (snark!)

What do you give to a closeted, drag queen pope for his birthday? New bright red Prada shoes, maybe?
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Lets see. Closeted gay men who try to hide their being gay by opposing gay rights, and/or molesting kids:

    Senator Larry Craig
    Congressman Tom Foley
    Pastor Ted Haggard
    Congressman Schrock
    Senator Lindsay Graham
    Pope Benedict

Any more that haven't come to mind?

"benedict blows off bush" now there is a visual I didn't need this morning.
  • Mike_H · 1 year ago
This is an interesting development, no doubt. It seems clear that whatever else these men may have in common, the Pope is NOT happy about the slaughter in Iraq and the approval of torture.
  • Tom3 · 1 year ago
The pope doesn't have a busy schedule that night. He has nothing on the schedule. He's snubbing Chimpy.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Will Ratzo talk again about a "genuine dialogue of cultures?"

Oops! MSNBC just reported Hillary "Marie Antoinette" got booed for trying to call Obama an elitist over the "bitter" remark. Its really funny trying to watch "Marie Antoinette" Clinton and Little Lord Fontleroy "EIGHT HOUSES" McCain try to paint African American Obama family as elitist. The elitist McCain and Clinton campaigns just keep damaging themselves with this non-issue, but hey let'em go for it!

MaineToday.com says that Senator Collins is going to attend.

She said she'd rather meet the pope than a movie star.
    ..
Wow, will she be disappointed when she ends up with Eddie Murphy at a pizza hut.

well, if it was YOUR 81st birthday, would YOU want to spend it with Dumbya??

Darn, I started watching that Clinton speech but just couldn't listen to her and clicked off the TV. Missed the booing.

Hey Bushie: If even an ex-Nazi Youth won't break bread with you, you must be truly repugnant...
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Would you want to spend your birthday with the Chimp?
  • EdNSted · 1 year ago
Am I to infer from this that the pope has a wide stance?

And besides, it can't possibly be a huge snub -- it's just a little bush...

Good headline: Benedict "blows" off Bush. mmmm

Everybody - I'll be the first to admit that a story about the Pope snubbing Chimpy makes me smile. But in the interest of making sure that our side always maintains the moral high ground, I'd appreciate it if we make super sure of our facts before we say things. (It lessens the ability of the right wing nutjobs to attack us on anything of substance, you know.)

That being said: The Pope, traditionally, does not dine in public. Ever. Go listen to the interview on NPR (within the last three or four days) wherein several people who helped prepare for the Pope's US visit talk about a funny occurrence with John Paul II and Imelda Marcos wherein the Pope's staff forcibly blocked the kitchen so no more food could be brought out and the Pope could exit.

Or go look at this: Popes, By Tradition, Dine Alone

Aside from occasional slip ups, I love this blog! Thanks so much for putting it up.
