AMERICAblog: Bill Clinton praises McCain because he just can't help himself

This is typical of a sore loser. If he can screw up Obama's chances, he will. I plan on ignoring the first days of the convention, the days where both Clinton's try and abduct the convention and try one more time to steal it from Obama. I have truly, had enough from the both of them. I will never vote for a Clinton again if they ever present themselves, politically.

Bill Clinton has become a horse's ass of truly epic proportions. I can't tell you how much I have been kicking myself for the better part of the last year for ever sticking up for him in arguments, not to mention tearing down all the "who shot Vince Foster" signs that some clown on a bicycle posted on all the lightpoles on Key Bridge 10 years ago.

If Obama loses this year, Clinton has NO chance to win the nomination in 2012. There will be a fresh new face on the block, and many Democrats like me will blame the Clintons for Obama losing in 2008.

I'm not so offended by Clinton's comments if in fact McCain has a good record (I'm not certain of his record as comapred to the whole) as the important issue is that the conversation be on the table. Many of us seem to want the conversation to be elevated but when the Repugs attack, it seems the Dems have to also. We lose. Obama has tried to keep it on topic and I still feel most Americans want that. Maybe we all watch the polls too much.
lynchie

McCain has passed no legislation that anything of value for the average American. He has repeatedly voted against increased medical care, pay levels and armored protection for the troops. He has not voted in the last 400 votes in Congress. He has not been present in the House for almost 2 years. He was up to his armpits in the S&L fiasco and only the help of his buddy Ronny Raygun saved him there. The Keating 5 should have all gone to jail including McCain. He married his current wife before he divorced his first wife. He has turned his back on his wife and kids. Is that enough of a good record for you Bill Clinton. You ass blanket. You are like all the other criminals who claim they represent we the people. Please go away. Take your family and go on a speaking trip around the world. You offer nothing to America except more of the same.

I don't know, the quote in context isn't actually all that bad. It's almost no more than a backhanded compliment to McCain... "best of the Republicans" still isn't all that great!
And... Obama's energy plan isn't terrific, to be honest. His affection for nuclear and coal is hardly progressive. And he recently wobbled on oil drilling. If Obama's energy plan were better, I'd see Clinton's comments as more offensive, but there's less difference between McCain and Obama than there should be.
I think this is a bit of making a mountain out of a molehill, looking for new ways to be pissed at the Clintons rather than staying focused on unifying all democrats. If we picked at every comment by every politician, spun them, then I'm sure we could find ways in which all democratic leaders have dissed each other -- but that's hardly productive.
Ultimately, I'd like to see Clinton's words goad Obama into crafting a better energy policy, I think that would be far better for the future of the country.

I agree. Was this in response to a question? Was this a part of a speech? All that you can find is a short "report".
I post this because most of you never read past the words John wrote.
Former President Bill Clinton on Monday praised Senator Barack Obama’s energy policy at the opening of the National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas.
But Mr. Clinton also lauded Mr. Obama’s rival, Senator John McCain, and said that either candidate would be progressive on the issue of climate change.
“Obviously, I favor Senator Obama’s energy positions, and Democrats have been by and large the more forward-leaning actors,” Mr. Clinton said. “But John McCain has the best record of any Republican running for president on the energy issue and on climate change.” He added, “I’m very encouraged about where the presidential rhetoric is in this campaign.”
Mr. Clinton’s remarks opened the two-day summit, held at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and organized by Senator Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, and John Podesta, Mr. Clinton’s former chief of staff.
Mr. Clinton challenged Nevada to tap its abundant wind and sunlight to become the first carbon-neutral state. He also questioned the recent rush to support offshore drilling.

No, fireblazes. I don't hate Bill Clinton. I merely do not want him anywhere near our government ever again. Ditto Hillary; her time for re-election cannot come soon enough.
And I don't dislike you. Why would you think that? I don't like some of the stuff you write and I say so, but that has nothing to do with you personally.
Whether or not you like the way the article is written, one fact remains: This is a time for Democrats to be united before the country.
Certainly this is not the time for Bill or any other Democrat to praise DrillDrillDrill McCain, about their energy "policy" or anything else.
So either Bill is still snaggled up in his miffdom or he's losing his political smarts.

Indeed... the takeaway here is that, when the topic was energy, Clinton was generally pleased that the overall tone has improved, but specifically supports Obama over McCain. Nothing insidious there unless you really reach and spin and twist.

Here is a nice site to get the latest on McCain's voting record on oil support, climate change, renewable energy. Clinton's contention that McCain is a supporter is pure unadulterated horseshit.
McCain Boasts of Global Warming Record, But Solutions Are Absent From His Website. The "environment" page of the "issues" category of his website acknowledges the importance of limiting carbon emissions, but gives no specific policy that he would advocate to do so.
McCain Has No Plan To Increase Energy Efficiency. Though a recent study by McKinsey &Co. found that the best way to make deep cuts in carbon emissions is to improve energy efficiency of buildings, appliances, and other energy consumers, McCain's understanding of the problem is woefully lacking. He has proposed a program of "energy audits," a system Dr. Joseph Romm calls "a weak, uncoordinated, narrowly-targeted action. They will barely have any impact when it comes to large commercial users who can already afford them McCain Opposes Renewable Electricity. A renewable electricity standard would require utilities to generate a certain portion of their electricity from wind, solar, geothermal, and other renewable energy sources. Twenty six states, including Arizona, have such requirements. In 2002 and 2005, there were votes in the Senate to require utilities nationwide to generate 10 percent or 20 percent of their electricity from renewable energy resources. Sen. McCain voted against renewable electricity every time.
2005: Voted against a renewable portfolio standard
2002: Voted against 20 percent requirement:
2002 (Vote 55): Voted to gut 10 percent requirement:
2002 (Vote 59): voted to gut 10 percent requirement:
So again we have another Washington has been spout bullshit and support for McCain where there is no substance. McCain's voting record on every issue is to support big business and vote against American electorate. Clinton needs to fuck off to Africa or wherever and keep his mouth shut.
