We have to run against Nader, so I am glad they have to run against Barr, which means McCain has to run to right on every social issue to save his base from defecting. McCain can forget hardcore Hillary women and Latinos if he does. Awesome!

Only if, during the debates, one of the questioners has the moxie to ask Barr about his vote for the Defense of Marriage Act and his support of anti-abortion legislation. This is the guy who's been married three times and, according to wife No. 2, was helpful enough to drive her to a clinic when SHE had an abortion.

Just thought I'd point out that I am a registered Libertarian, but Bob Barr is not a Libertarian.
In fact, if Barr gets the nomination, I might switch my registration.

Article in today;'s Charleston paper re a mailing on voter registration in West Virginia
Secretary of State says mass mailing has caused confusion
The Secretary of State's office is reminding first-time voters that the deadline to register to vote in Tuesday's primary already has passed.
Betty Ireland said she's worried that a mass mailing aimed at getting young women in West Virginia to register to vote might cause confusion.
A group called "Women's Voices. Women Vote" sent out more than 16,000 mailers to unmarried women in the state after April 22, the last day to register in time to vote Tuesday
Another attempt to muddy the water as to who votes, when to register, etc.

Bob Barr looks like the total sleazebag that he is, so I guess he'll get those votes, none of which would have been for Obama anyway.

How does Bob Barr run as a Libertarian? I don't get it.
Number one, he hates potheads. Number two, he's a big drug warrior. Number 3, if it doesn't concern banning guns, he never met a federal law he didn't like. Libertarian? That's funny. Almost as funny as Hillary as Democrat.

SINGING_TROLL, I don't think you've listened to Barr recently. He's been working for the Marijuana Policy Project and is very outspoken about the need to legalize pot.

Most Libertarians don't give a crap about pot.
What about the USA PATRIOT Act, which he endorsed? How about gay marriage, which he opposed? Libertarians oppose gay and straight marriage, and prefer civil unions for all. Does he support an open-border policy? What are his views on church/state separation?

Are they going to put him on stage with McCain and Obama during the debates? Should they?
i think he needs some practice. i say let him debate Hillary.
Paul is every bit as smart as Obama when it comes to this type of thing.
We haven't heard the last from Ron Paul. lol!

This is just another nail in McCain's coffin. It is delusional to think that any Republican can win the presidency. Republicans will never unite behind McCain, and this is an undeniable indication that their divisions are real and deep. Barr and Paul going against McCain is pouring salt into the open wounds of the Republican Party's inner conflicts. Image what pundits would be saying about the Democrats if Dennis Kucinich and Jerry Brown were putting together constituencies to undermine Obama's general election campaign.

Do we care? Yes, I think so. The Libertarians look very carefully at the Constitution and at personal liberty. That alone makes it worth watching what they do, that and the impending transition out of the failed GOP into something comfortable to conservative thinkers. I expect more Republicans to move into the Libertarian camp. Of course, once Mr. Barr realizes that Libertarians are really just Republicans who want permission to smoke pot, he might back away.

He won't be in the debate unless a range of polls show his getting at least 10% of the vote, maybe more.
This whole issue was thrashed out in the Perot and Nader racers - Perot qualified, Nader didn't.

It takes a huge ego to want to run for office and I think he misses all the action of being in the middle of things. I recall him being on TV every evening back in the 90s. He is very right-wing oriented and someone we definitely need to keep out of office. Hopefully, his time had come and gone like Hillary Clinton's. Eventually, she too, will have a reality check and drop out of the race victorious. I think it will be after W.Va. ( though I'm not holding my breath)

This is good.
Half the Repubs I know now are calling themselves "libertarian."
They're embarrassed by Bush and they think McCain is crazy and old, but they'll never vote Dem. (Believe me, I've tried to talk them over.)
If Barr doesn't make a joke out of himself, I'm sure they'll vote for him.

With the right circumstances and the right campaign, I've always thought that a third party candidate could make McCain the odd man out. Can't say that I would mind seeing the voters give the stiff rebuke that the minority party refused to do. Some of the righties are straying from their programming, it seems the Cylons have turned on themselves. Let's get out of the way of the circular firing line and--well, get rid of ours, too. Of course, this could all be a Cylon trick, distracting us with petty infighting while they aim their payloads at Iran.
