I am happy to know that Louisiana continues the 8 year old War on Science is being fought heroically by Governor Jindal. Since he selected himself as Chief Science Warrior I can not think of a better candidate to be sacrificed to gods on Mt. Redoubt. Do we know whether or not those terrible and terrifying gods require the sacrifice of virgins?

I think that's only for Hawaiian volcanoes.
But in any event (and I didn't make this connection - somebody pointed it out to me) the Republicans' focus on abstinence only sex education finally makes sense.
Without a supply of virgins, their volcano mitigation strategy falls apart.

You get a "like" for the use of "chief science warrior."

I seriously doubt Jindal would volunteer to sacrifice himself to a Volcano when he can simply perform an Exorcism on it.
Or if Jindal believes that would be a debasement of his Religion, perhaps we could get David Copperfield to make the Volcano disappear entirely?
Or better still, perhaps David Copperfield could make Bobby Jindal disappear?

I wonder how Jindal would feel about the government not trying to predict and track hurricanes? I guess, if volcanoes aren't important enough, neither are hurricanes- good luck with that, Louisiana!

I thought volcanoes could only be appeased by virgins.

Good luck finding a virgin in the Republican party these days.

They'll have to import a virgin.

I 2nd the motion of appeasing the Volcano by throwing Piyush 'Bobby' Jindal (remember, Bobby is not his real name. He seems to be ashamed of his real name.) into nearest volcano crater.
I also propose pre-appeasing Mt. Redoubt by throwing Sarah Palin into that crater.
I further propose tossing members of the GOP into the nearest volcano craters until all of the volcanoes are appeased and never erupt again. Surely the members of the GOP would be willing to make this small sacrifice to save millions of dollars AND appease the Volcanoes for the good of the country.

I didn't realize it was Reboubt that erupted. Throw Jindal and Palin both in, stat! It may be too late to help now, but it couldn't hurt, either.

Yee Gods! If you throw Jindal and Palin into the volcano, it would erupt so violently that would make Krakatoa seem like a firecracker, a very small, finger firecracker. Volcanos are appleased by virgin sacrifices or those of purity and innocence. The suggestion of throwing the entire Republican party into volcanos would be a disaster, probably blow the entire planet apart, maybe even turn the Earth into the first planetary supernova.

Piyush Jindal is not a Christian name. Wonder if he is an infidel, heathen, terrorist enemy of the state who hates America and playing the Republicans for suckers.

Did Gov. Palen refuse part of the stimulus package that would monitor volcanoes or rebuild after they've destroyed populated areas?

Well, sure, but I was thinking that Volcano Gods deserve the very best available. The governor of Alaska would be the appropriate offering.

Are there no virgins in Alaska?

Not in the Palin family.

His name is not Bobby, he never had his name changed from his indian one. Unlike Obama, Jindal has yet to show us his birth certificate, also he has self worth issues due to the need to hide his name.

Yeah. i remember when he divulged why he's called 'Bobby". It seems he emigrated to America and wanted to be like WASP Bobby Brady and not like Indian whatever his real name is.
Self worth issues is spot on. Those types generally gravitate to Republicanism because they want so bad to be like the ones who wish people to obliterate their ethnicity anyways.

Now that is funny. Jindal is one of those folks who just need to keep his mouth shut if he wants to get anywhere in politics.
Note to Jindal: What ever you want to say, don't say it; it will come back and bite you in the butt.

The GOP doesn't like the presumption of predicting "acts of G-O-D". I have to wonder if Palin was reading that goat book today.

For those suggesting the throwing of certain Republicans into a volcano may I remind you that even a volcano has better taste than that. It would just spit them out again.

I was out all day. Did the media shy away from deriding Bobby Jindal or did they actually remember the millenia ago when he made his idiotic comment?
I just hope they didn't think they'd be "unfair" to mention it.

he wasn't saying monitoring them wasn't a necessity, just that THAT much money wasn't needed. thats the whole "argument" here. nothing new. its either way too much spending and government control, or less spending, less government control, and more money for taxpayers to decide what to do with it.
JWAdvocate

With all due respect, I doubt Jindal did any research as to the effectiveness of funding volcano monitoring, and the nature of his "argument" was pure mockery.
“It [The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act ] includes ... $140 million for something called “volcano monitoring.” Instead of monitoring volcanoes, what Congress should be monitoring is the eruption of spending in Washington, D.C.”
If you can find an "argument" in that quote, you have me beat.
P.S. Do you think taxpayers are willing to donate sufficient funding for volcano monitoring, of their own volition? Do you think they would do the same to fund roads and bridges?

Satellite image shows cloud of ash and shadow from the Mt. Redoubt eruption:
I think people who don’t live in the path of a volcano don’t understand that it’s seldom just one eruption; it’s a series of them that can impact the area for days or months. Right now our airport, air base and many businesses are shut down. Anchorage is in the path of the latest ash fall and there will probably be more to come. Fortunately, because of scientist monitoring the volcano we had notice to prepare for it and we’ll know about other ash clouds coming.
But in any event (and I didn't make this connection - somebody pointed it out to me) the Republicans' focus on abstinence only sex education finally makes sense.
