What are the chances Franken wins Minnesota Senate recount?
What voting methods (electronic, punch card both or something else) does Minnesota use?

Great news...

after reading the article. I am still hesitant to call for Merkley, given there is still lots of votes statewide that needed to be counted.
However, the news is really bad for Smith if Multnomah County has been undercounted. Portland is one of the most liberal cities in the nation, and it is far from a friendly place for Republican Votes, Washington and Clackamas counties are much more friendlier to Republicans.

Good news, but can you hold off on "pick up" headlines until it's over? PLEASE save the uber headlines for done deals. They're still counting votes in this one.

I agree, When Smith concedes, then I think we can put this in the Democratic Party column and gives more reason to oust Lieberman from the Democratic Senate Caucus.
Too bad, Mormon fans! Did you all know that Gordon Smith is a cousin of the Udalls?
What do those 3 think of Prop 8?

Apparently most of the uncounted votes are in Multnomah and Lane counties, both very blue and heavily favoring Merkley so far. But I'm reluntant to celebrate until after all votes are counted. There were a ton of people who dropped off their ballots on Tuesday and signatures must be validated and so on before ballots can be read and that is what is causing the delay.
As a Merkley supporter and volunteer I'm pretty happy right now... but still a bit nervous. Hopefully I can really celebrate tomorrow!

sheesh - reluntant should be reluctant... sorry

I really hope it's almost over. Now we can go back to Wilferd Brimley's Liberty Medical ads again... (WTF? lol)
Seriously, I'm so glad Gordy's out. On the scale of extremist Republicans, I would've rather seen someone like McConnell or Sessions go ... and I actually voted for Merkley's opponent in the primary, and at the same time this still *totally* calls for champagne, dammit!

And Hannah is right - It's still a bit close to call entirely. I'm VERY hopeful, but will save the champagne for tomorrow nite. Smith posed very well as a moderate and did everything he could to hide from the R behind his name. There's no telling how many people he fooled, even in the blue counties. Note: Jackson county is usually a blue county, and even they carried for Smith.

Yeah, the race is still *very* close; I suspect that it will go to recount before Smith concedes, so I'm not counting my chickens (or, in Smith's case, frozen peas) yet.
The oregonlive.com voter distribution map shows that both Obama and Merkley were elected courtesy of Portland and Eugene and surrounding environs. In some of the rural counties, Merkley received only around 20% of the vote. We're a pretty peaceful state, but this is going to really aggravate some of the country folks.
