AMERICAblog: Breaking: Navy frees captain in firefight

  • Gumby · 10 months ago
    Easter SEALS saved the day!
  • FreakOfNurture · 10 months ago
Good news, but Chris? Please don't ever make me go to that site again. I just lost 20 IQ points!

Actually, I'm a bit hesitant to leave ABlog ever. Those people out there are so vile and hateful... I think I need a shower.
  • hrh · 10 months ago
    What he said. (Shudder!)
  • vkobaya · 10 months ago
Those people out there are so vile and hateful...

Actually, what they are complaining about is we have a law abiding president who will behave according the laws and behave like a civilized human being instead of lowering ourselves to the barbaric behavior of the pirates. God Bless Obama! Their idea of the proper response to savagery is to respond like savages, to crime is to become criminal and to greed by becoming even more greedy.

Okay, so Jesus fed the multitude with loaves and fishes, but were they kosher? Well, were they? Answer me that, Mr. Smarty Pants.
  • julls · 10 months ago
yeaaaaa obama ~ Thank you Navy Seals~Same old sour grapes right wing loons!!!
  • Deacon_Blues · 10 months ago
I thought about posting on American Stinker, er, Thinker, but what would be the point? These people are delusional; after all, they went eight years thinking Bush was Rambo and Thomas Jefferson and George Patton all rolled into one.
  • Butch1 · 10 months ago
One can count on the republicans to put a damper on anything our country does when they are not in power. They have become so irrelevant.
  • James K. Sayre · 10 months ago
    That is good news!

For a long-term solution, the nations of the world need to try to figure out a way to establish a legitimate national government in Somalia. If you visit wikipedia and search on "somalia" you can read about the long and very tangled and very complicated history of this area.

    More recently,

The Bush gangster regime hired the Ethiopian government to invade Somalia and to try and destroy the Islamic Court Union back in 2006. We are always interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, and always trying to stop any progressive movement or any form of good self-government. See the Wikipedia entry on the Islamic Court Union for more details. Apparently the Bush regime preferred anarchy in Somalia to muslim-run moderate form of government. What is the Obama Administration planning on doing to return a legitimate form of government. I doubt that sharia law would look kindly upon acts of piracy by anyone in Somalia.

    Damm!

    Obama didn't fail.
  • AngryOne · 10 months ago
News that American Captain Richard Phillips was rescued by U.S. forces from Somali pirates must have come as something as a shock to the right-wing noise machine. After all, over the past two days, frothing-at-the-mouth conservatives branded Barack Obama "eunuch-in-chief", "President Pantywaist," and worse, while Newt Gingrich twittered Friday, "The correct answer to piracy is to destroy, not negotiate with it." Apparently, these children of the Reagan revolution forgot the Gipper's arms-for-hostages deals during the Iran-Contra crisis.

    For the details, see:
"U.S. Captain Rescued, No Reagan-Style Hostage Deal."

    Expect this:

But one of the evildoin' pirates is still alive! And Obama won't torture him! He'll just read him his rights! And give him three squares a day in a country club-type Club Fed!
  • LKeithG · 10 months ago
I have some sharp things to say about some of the “stuff” I have heard from the likes of Newt and others this AM. But I will hold my fire and spend the few moments I have (while cooking a holiday meal) to acknowledge the bravery of a great captain whose actions made it possible for his entire crew to get to safety.

And is a great day for the entire US navy. So many young men and women away from home just so they might step up when needed to keep us safe. Well done!

It is dangerous to extrapolate too much from one or two events, but I have noticed that despite much turbulence, since Jan. 20, we are catching a few more breaks. Better Kharma?

    And Gumby....you win!
  • RainbowPhoenix · 10 months ago
I think it's because they finally have confidence in the one running the show.
  • Joneses · 10 months ago
The right will find something to complain about. Newt is already complaining about the Obama's new puppy.

Even if they have to make up sh _ t, it's Obama fault anyways.
  • dacnova · 10 months ago
What's Newt's problem with Bo? He's not an American dog?
  • hopeless pedent · 10 months ago
Newt wasn't complaining about the puppy. He was annoyed (justifiably) that a reporter asked him if he had opinion about it. He approved of the puppy and wished the family well with him.

It's like a stuck clock being right twice a day, but in this case, he was right to express dismay that this story reaches the level of his being asked about it.
  • julls · 10 months ago
Stupid Newt, he is the GRINCH!!

The Obama puppy is NOT American..LOL Leave it to the right wing to call a puppy a anti american!!
  • Tysalpha · 10 months ago
I actually read the article, and boy, are they ever trying to find SOMETHING negative to say about it! Grasping at straws is too kind of a metaphor.

In any case, it's great news! I'm just so happy for the captain, his family and crew.
  • sparrow · 10 months ago
After listening to Newt armed with his negative talking points this morning, the first thing that crossed my mind with the surprisingly good news of the captain's rescue was, "Republicans, foiled again."
  • John Kerry · 10 months ago
Oh my God! You left nutters are really incredible!!!

How you even read anything and come up with exact opposite meaning???? All Lifson was saying was a job well done by our Navy but simply was "concerned that the captured terrorist will be treated as a criminal defendant, with all the rights of discovery and other secret-busting apparatus that make criminal action inappropriate for terror groups."!!

And with your pussy coward thinking who can blame him!!!

    UNBELIEVABLE!!
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 10 months ago
it's hard to read that completely irrelevant potshot at "left-wing lawyers" without wondering if Lifson wanted the 16-yr old pirate (who apparently gave himself up) shot, tortured or starved to death. we tried it your way for 8 years. it's time for you to STFU and let the grown ups restore some sanity. my only criticism of Chris in Paris is that "jackass" was too kind.
  • hrh · 10 months ago
John Boy, you bring a smile to all our faces with your frantic tapdancing.

Now you may slither back under your rock.
  • Kilgore Trout · 10 months ago
All Lifson was saying was a job well done by our Navy but simply was "concerned that the captured terrorist will be treated as a criminal defendant"

Um, he *is* a criminal. Piracy is not terrorism, it's piracy.
  • art mofo · 10 months ago
I'm no wing-nutter (I'm quite the opposite of one) but it's a long, long stretch to link to that article as evidence that the right wing is upset.

They found a sideline issue or two to get pissy about, that's all. Considering the source, what can you expect? Not more more.....
  • John Kerry · 10 months ago
    art mofo is 100% correct

Most of the article was a very positive appraisal of what happened which you of course ignored.

DO you libs really think that the rescue of the Captain was the result of the great military expertise of the beloved Messiah???? I'm mean..c'mon...even you wackos can't be that far gone. Credit goes to the Navy Seals.

And I must have missed all the right wingers who wanted gunslinging!!
  • hrh · 10 months ago
    That's not all you're missing.
  • missime · 10 months ago
Thank God for the rescue of the ship Captain and all the people on that ship. Thanks to President Obama, the Navy Seals and all others involved in the rescue mission. I'm tired of all these outlaws trying to harm people. To the Pirates, we understand you're hungry, but you can't be taking our people in hostage for money. You can't go around stealing your meals, you have to earn it the right way just like the rest of us. Some of us in America are hungry too. Life is hard. There are plenty of things people can do for food and money. I know a bunch of decent poor people. Doing illegal things may get you a meal but will never get you a good conscience or peace of mind. Pirating, stealing will get you nowhere. America will prevail. Don't mess up with us.
  • Jophus · 10 months ago
I have never heard that, works in practice but will it work in theory, phrase ever?! I love it.. It is my new official saying when I get owned.
  • pat b · 10 months ago
18 USC 81 provides for Life Imprisonment for
Acts of Piracy. The relevant court is Federal District,
i suspect they would take this case in Miami,
just because the courts there have more experience with this
    or in Annapolis.
  • Yankee · 10 months ago
"I remain concerned that the captured terrorist will be treated as a criminal defendant, with all the rights of discovery and other secret-busting apparatus that make criminal action inappropriate for terror groups. We know that he will not be subjected to any interrogation techniques that make him seriously uncomfortable.

I also suppose he will be provided a Koran, halaal meals, and (naturally) access to both left wing lawyers and Islamic clergy, whose conversations with him will be held beyond the reach of the good guys."

Shorter American Thinker: Rescue was great, but too bad we can't torture him.

Phil Aver in an email raises the question of whether or not the captured Somali had his Miranda Rights read to him in a language he understands. If not, he probably walks.
  • pat mallory · 10 months ago
Obama once again shows class. If this rescue would have occured during Bush's watch, W. would be strutting around like a peacock before the cameras.
