  • ndtovent · 1 year ago
that old codger's been in the senate for 50 years, and will probably live to stay in it for another 50. As much as I dislike him, I wish him well.

he may not be a kkk member anymore, but he damn sure sympathizes. He still uses the 'n word now and then in public (but always gets a pass by the msm). If something happens to him, what do you bet that the next one they elect will be a repuke.

    I hope he's OK.

Doesn't sound serious, but I guess you don't take a chance when the person's 90.

Dick Cheney and his comments aside, just as for Sen. Kennedy today, our best to Sen. Byrd. And our best for a quick recovery.

May the republicans be so kind...

No fear. Only the good die young.

Enquiring minds want to know, and with the Senate majority so tenuous, here goes:

I checked the West Virginia election code.

If any vacancy occurs in one of their Senate seats, the Democratic governor (who is running for reelection this year) would appoint the successor.
The way their law works, the election for the full term would not be held until November 2010 since it is past the cutoff point for a setting up an election for this year's election.

If you need a caregiver are you really effective anymore? Byrd has been a running joke in Congress for a long time. His contribution has been to block a more effective Dem from establishing his/her self.

    First Kennedy, now Byrd?

Hillary must be getting quite good at spells.

why are there so many ads at the top of your website now?

Yikes. Sen. Byrd was first elected in 1949? That's the year I was born, fer crying out loud!

I do wish him well. He is a staunch constitutionalist.
  • ndtovent · 1 year ago
That's wrong. He was elected in 1958, taking office in 1959 (stil wayyyy too long imho).
  • Kansaskitty · 1 year ago
Thanks for letting me know - 1958 is marginally better than 1949 and both are too long to hold a seat in the Senate.

I hope he feels better soon. His speech in Phil Donohue's Body of War was classic

Geez, Senators are dropping like flies. I hope Senator Byrd recovers quickly.

Jeez, he was elected when I was 3, and I will be 62 this year. Amazing.

As the most senior member of the majority party in the Senate, Sen. Byrd is also President Pro Tempore and third in succession to the President, after the VP and Speaker of the House. His health and well-being is important, especially considering the propensity of this present administration to wage unprovoked wars that may threaten to instigate a WW 3.

John, the past few days have convinced me that you are wired in "pretty good" to what's going on.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Byrd did pretty well in a society which rejected his past as a Grand Wizard of the KKK. Some people change; others cannot.

Nigel, quit pushing that shit. Nobody cares!
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
    Busboy, you are "nobody". :-)

Then, why do I have -3800 disqus points? I hear that -4000 is the limit. After that, I won't be disturbing your peace anymore.......
  • maggiePA08 · 1 year ago
This post has you at -4001, so I guess "what you hear" is again incorrect! But congrats on your latest milestone!

Is that a dog or a baboon?
  • maggiePA08 · 1 year ago
She's a Newfoundland dog, often mistaken for a bear or bison, but you are the first to call her a baboon, tho I doubt you would call her that to her face!
