AMERICAblog: Brokaw led the cheers for the McCain campaign last night

  • Gridlock · 1 year ago
Great. First useless tit Ifill, now in the tank Brokaw.
  • hopelesspedant · 1 year ago
Based on that comment, I can find nothing with which I'd disagree.

I think Biden won the debate, I think he solidified the ticket's chances of winning, but Brokaw's comments were not unreasonable. She did help herself a lot, and by preventing further freefall for her ticket helped McCain as well.

Palin is loved in Alaska because she doubled the oil dividend check every citizen of the state gets from $1,600.00 annually to $3,269.00. She did this by doubling the money big oil has to pay to Alaska. Alaska has a population of 683,000 people and 900,00 caribou There is no state sales tax, property or income tax in Alaska. What challenge has she ever had to faced as the chief executive of Alaska? Big Oil pays for everything in Alaska so of course drill baby drill is the mantra.
  • reflux1000 · 1 year ago
Want to see Big Oil leave Alaska and/or all those Taxes be put on the books let 5,000,000 to 10,000,000 people move to Alaska and start claiming that Dividend check .
  • caphillprof · 1 year ago
Actually, Alaska is more like Venezuela or Saudi Arabia than the Lower 48. Sarah enjoys the same type of oil wealth enjoyed by Hugo Chavez and the Sheiks. Those Red Staters complaining about their high gasoline prices will vote for Sarah without ever having a clue.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
And we poor saps, in the other 49 states of America, pay for Queen Sarah's bountiful largesse to her people. At the gas pump.

Maybe Bush should just cancel the elections and rule until somebody with gravitas comes along?
  • chris1e · 1 year ago
A monkey has more gravity than Bush.LOL
  • devlzadvocate · 1 year ago
Those McSame/Pain supporters are getting IRRITATED now that things aren't looking so good!
  • osage · 1 year ago
If "gravitas" is your sole measure of presidential worthiness, write in Morgan Freeman's name. I prefer intelligence, knowledge, a constructive temperament, confidence tempered with humility, great communication and political skill and the moral integrity to be a positive role model and leader. Dick Cheney has gravitas. Ann Coulter has gravitas.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
If those are your qualifications? Then, you're screwed. Hunker down in a corner of your cardboard house, next to your computer and repeat: "I'm screwed"
  • ComradeRutherford · 1 year ago
The ONLY time I saw Bush be a human being instead of a snotty rich brat was in the aftermath of Katrina, when he was poking around the wreckage. Rove had an operative come up to him and effuse with praise about how great Bush was. Bush stood there, 'Yeah, whatever'.

But then the stooge said, 'I wish you could have a third term!'

Bush's eyes popped open and he said, 'Woah, woah, wait a minute!', obviously surprised.

He HATED the idea that he'd be stuck pretending to be the President for one second after Jan., 2009. His reaction seemed to be, 'I was promised that wouldn't happen!'
  • osage · 1 year ago
I loathe people who represent themselves as objective journalists who are blatantly partisan. It's one thing for a Keith Olbermann or a Sean Hannity to be obviously biased, but when a network news reporter like Tom Brokaw claims objectivity and betrays that claim, he's betraying the trust of the American public. Why aren't there legitimately non-biased news reporters on the networks like there are on PBS? Brokaw shouldn't be a moderator at a presidential debate when he gets all giggly over Sarah Palin. Where is his professional integrity? Where is his personal sense of fairness? Where is his responsibility to viewers of every political persuasion?
  • chris1e · 1 year ago
    Who cares?
All these ancient people of the media are so over no one is taking them serious.
The media as we know it is dead any way.No one really cares what they think or say.
All of them are museum pieces

Yaaaaaaaay! That $850 billion we just gave Wall Street bought us an incredible, outstanding increase in the market of 100 points!

Stow the lifeboats, the great ship of state has been saved!
  • Milli · 1 year ago
He was one of the ones who made a stink over Olbermann during the Dem Convention and forced MSNBC to make him sit out the Republican convention. Keith IS MSNBC right now. Without him, they'll fade into the sunset. Brokaw is an idiot.
  • Styve · 1 year ago
What was with Ifill immediately veering away from the pre-determined protocol of 90 sec, 90 sec. and then 2 minutes discussion? The first question was asked of each, with no discussion period after, followed immediately by the second question...and then Biden redirected back to the first Q, and so on... One time, she actually asked 2 different questions, 1 for Biden and 1 for Palin?!?! WTF was that all about?!

Re Brokaw, who really sounds more and more like a drunk (can't think of the name of the comic from years back who Brokaw sounds like?), we have five days to get him bounced! Massive email barrage of NBC, or directly to him?? Get an investigative reporter on him and embarrass him into dropping out?!

I have a friend who saw Brokaw speak at a health care conference awhile back.

Said he came across like a total wingnut.

Even the health care executives in attendance (who are generally Republican) thought he was extreme.

Anybody who watched CNN last night couldn't miss the impact the debate had on a focus group in Columbus OH. Each time Palin employed that sneering grin and said something negative about Obama they dialed way down. On the other hand they dialed up

No matter what Tom Brokaw says this race is breaking toward Obama. Unless something horrible happens between now and November he will win.

Palin has been going down in popularity in Alaska. She has dropped 20% in the polls. Not to good considering the amount of money she doled out to the citizens. However, an overall 60% rating is not that bad.

There is absolutely no way that Palin helped her team last night as the polling shows. Yes, the base will not feel entirely foolish in pulling the lever. However, they would have voted for McCain with a dead corpse as a running mate let alone the more exciting right wing nut Palin. The independents clearly went for Biden. Brokaw is very biased and it shows. But that has been true of the corporate owned media for a long time. Look at the "fair and balanced" treatment in the run up to Iraq.

We have to start working the refs. Brokaw is an embarrassment and we need to make it known.

Expect the breakout to continue all the way to the election.

Brokaw interviewed a top Rethug (maybe McSame?) on MTP about a month ago. He was, for Brokaw, very tough on whoever it was. So, he does have some merit, once in a while. But, I agree that most of the time he sounds waaaaaay too conservative for me.
  • GrMtGirl3 · 1 year ago
I have contacted NBC, MSNBC, Meet The Press and every other agency I could think of to stress the fact Brokaw should be disqualified to moderate the upcoming presidential debate. He is openly and blatantly bias and unable to fullfil the journalistic requirements.

Gwen, of PBS, was definitely hindered in her responsibility because of suggested bias in the other direction and consequently allowed Palin to get away with NOT ANSWERING THE QUESTION ASKED AND FILLING IN WITH AN '"JABBERISH" THAT CAME TO MIND. Sen. Biden even brought it to Gwen's attention at one point. These debates are for the benefit of the voters. Information on plans for the future, where they stand and how they intend to get there. These are not popularity contests or free campaign time for their personal use. Let's get the best information we can with the upcoming debate. Cancellng Brokaw and replacing him with a true journalist will guarantee that possibility.

Brokaw's a buffoon and peaked as a Sunday newspaper suppliment underwear model and ephebe for war hero, Governor and American Sportsman host Joe Foss back in South Dakota.
Brokaw's big plan to eliminate Olberman liberalism from MSNBC looked kinda odd last evening with David Gregory's 10 seconds of airtime before tossing to, who else, Olberman...Tom's always been happy with lip service even if his early history's been scrubbed from the net.
Tom's and our gay history do coincide in this letter from Frank Kameny regarding Brokaw's book "Boom, Voices of the Sixties":

"in terms of OUR theatrics","our" is inclusive like in "our baseball team","our house",our party get my point,Tom Brokaw (a word smith) used "our" to refer to the McCain/Palin supporters and to the republican party, this little slip shows were his heart is.
  • ItsaPalindrome · 1 year ago
Thanks Tom Brokaw. I would say that this Disney throwback starring John McCain sums up his campaign pretty well:

I think they're wolfing it up in Alaska tonight

Maybe they're shooting wolves from helicopters, Sarah Palin-style.

With Krauthammer's endorsement of Obama today (see Huff Po) it may not matter what Brokelaw does.
  • ComradeRutherford · 1 year ago
Brokaw has been controlled by the GOP since ... forever.

I watched the VP debate in 1984 between Geraldine Ferraro and GHWBush. Ferraro had stack of notes, had pages running out to get more documentation, and she used every scrap of it to demolish every thing Bush had ever said in his entire life, she handed his ass to America on a silver platter.

Bush just stood there moronically mouthing the same Reagan-esque platitudes, 'Tow the line', 'Stay the course', 'Don't change horses in the middle of the stream, wouldn't be prudent - not at this juncture'. He had NOTHING.

Tom Brokaw comes on the second the debate is over and says, 'Obviously Bush won the debate and Ferraro didn't have a leg to stand on!'

That was when it was proven to me that the 'liberal media' is a big fat lie and that the MSM was totally controlled by the extremists of the far-right.
  • tommytoonz · 1 year ago
I saw we give Brokaw some of the medicine Ifill got, we press Brokaw on his long ties to McCain. The last debate will be the worst, as Bob Scheiffer, who defends McCain almost weekly on his Sunday show is hosting the final debate. Obama really has his work cut out for him with these two guys.
  • CarolAl · 1 year ago
NBC is doing itself a disservice. It seems that they are trying to balance Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews views with a right-leaning Tom Brokaw, and it isn't working for anyone. After Brokaw's unfair remark on last Sunday's Meet the Press, his Republican-leaning commentary in primary election and convention coverage, and now this debate, Brokaw has lost his journalistic integrity. I have lost all respect for Brokaw as he has lost his credibility.
