AMERICAblog: Bush team rushing through changes in workplace safety

Bush is trying to weaken the CO2 language so corporations can continue to pollute and earn profits after an international climate treaty passes during the next presidency.

I think you are wrong. Bush's intent is not a gift to industry but rather another of his opportunities to give the finger to the American people. What industry fails to recognize is that he is really giving them the finger too because with the Obama administration those regulations will have to revert to the true purpose of regulating industry, that is, protecting the citizen of this nation. Of course, there is the possibility that Obama is too much like Bill Clinton, too deep in corporate pockets to ever go against their foolish wishes, but with his campaign slogan of "Change," I think he will be unable to resist more progressive voices on very blatant issues likes this. When those reforms come, there is the danger to industry that they will go far beyond the original protections implementing even more needed reforms on industry. Given that Congress will probably be an overwhelming majority Democratic and probably with a much stronger liberal, progressive bent, industry would be far better off not bringing such issues to the attention of Congress. Thus Bush is not only giving his finger to the American people but also to the fools who supported him.

The worker’s grasp relaxed, his feet slipped, and in an instant he was a crushed and mangled corpse beneath the main grindstone in Solomon’s Mine Inc. The Operations supervisor appalled at the thought of investigations and suits rushed to the worker’s side, heard a rattling, rasping gasp, saw his hand make one lash thrash and from it fell the fabled stone… The Quarterly Profits Diamond.

And we thought Bush was an idiot. Pernicious is the word:
    ---
synonyms pernicious, baneful, noxious, deleterious, detrimental mean exceedingly harmful. pernicious implies irreparable harm done through evil or insidious corrupting or undermining <the claim that pornography has a pernicious effect on society>. baneful implies injury through poisoning or destroying <the baneful notion that discipline destroys creativity>.
    ---
Bush has been very successful at insidious corruption.

Of course they are . . . the Republicans never met a rule for business it didn't like or an idea to protect employess and the public it didn't detest

These last few months of the Bush administration are going to be the most dangerous for US . . . and I fear the Democrats in the houser and senatge will not do their job and push back

Good thing Mitch McConnell and Elaine Chao were too old to have children when they married. Can you imagine a kid with their genes--not to mention their looks.

    Berlin welcomes the new JFK

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20080723/wl_time/b...

"The media can barely contain its excitement. "Germany meets the Superstar" read the front page of the weekly Der Spiegel in reference to a popular TV show, while the tabloid Bild called Obama "Berlin's New Kennedy!" and gushed: "It's like 1963," describing the presidential candidate as "just as young, sexy and charismatic" as John F. Kennedy. And that's before he's even set foot here."

Are the biochemical companies hurting? Do they have so little profit they need to screw the workers again?

    Why do I doubt this?
