I wonder if this isn't just a set-up designed to fail. That way Bush can say "See, we tried diplomacy and it didn't work with these barbarians! ...Obama and them pansy Democrats were all wrong!" Then he'll pull out of negotiations and start the bombing campaign.

I recommend reading Ralph Peters today in the New York Post. I know he is a warmonger, but his warnings on attacking Iran are very clear. He seems to favor attacking them, just wants to be sure we BURY them, but his conclusions on what the consequences would be makes good talking points for NOT doing it.

Like what is going on in Iraq is really working well. We pay the different tribes to not kill each other and we give their President large amount of money to help run the country and what does he do? He goes out giving money to the poor people to vote for his tribe to keep them in office. They have met 15 of 18 points that the surge was suppose to take care of. But having just met means they barely made it. We have been in Iraq longer than in WWII. Your president just yesterday couldn't be bother to go to a cabinet meeting but instead went to coach a little league game. Talk about out of touch. Prior presidents always tried diplomacy. It is about time they try it now.

Bush is impotent in more ways than one...

Off topic, but...Older and Wiser, with a recent decision (that should be shouted from the rooftops for the perversion of our constitution it is) that the president can hold ANY american citizen INDEFINITELY in jail, I would have to say....that doesn't sound "impotent" to me.
Seriously, this is perverse. No matter what the argument, we KNOW that this was not intended by the framers or anyone else since. It isn't a "if the majority wants it" kind of thing, this was one of the MAIN reasons we broke away from the monarchy.
NO AMERICAN has the right to jail indefinitely without due process, which includes being tried in a court of law, another american.
This is sick, sick, perverted stuff, and ought to be blaring from every tv and newspaper. But of course...that isn't happening. This can also be used on the campaign trail as it is ONLY the judges appointed by Republicans that voted for this, showing how important it is to regain balance on the court....next appointee is deadly important for us "folk", unless you just want a dictatorship.

Well, I was being snarky, at best, but I agree with you on your post. But it's well known in psychology circles that impotence will drive men to punitive actions against others, among other self-defensive moves. Always blaming others for their own shortcomings, for instance. : )
A healthy individual, both physically and mentally, would never have performed the way this monster has...

Totally agree. It's ironic, Bush has always pooh-pooh'ed psychology, "all that head stuff" etc. except, now with the economy and dire outlook...he thinks the rest of us need shrinks.
I have believed since before even 2000 that that man is a sociopath. Can remember him on Letterman, there was a telling moment when they went to commercial, he needed to clean his glasses...instead of using his own coat, whatever there was a woman aide up in front of Lettermans desk, he simply leaned over and used her dress to clean his glasses...as if she were a mannequin or just didn't exist as a anything else but his glasses cleaner. It's hard to relate, but it was chilling...I've never seen anyone as unfeeling for others, though he has learned to pretend, his presidential actions show no empathy, no deliberation, no sense that we are all not just objects for him to do with as he will.
In short. He's nuts.

I read that. I wonder how we could find out if we are on the list. I bet a lot of us on this blog are. They know who we are I am sure.
Obama is already changing the way America acts in the world. McCain and the Pentagon are on board his plan to send more assets to Afghanistan and now we are talking to the Iranians.
To preempt his good ideas, they steal them!

How they ridiculed and criticized Obama for the very thing. Bush is now desperate, and trying hard to revive his pathetic legacy. It's too late now. He will go down in history as the worst President, who was responsible for the loss of a million lives. He was a lousy, lying, corrupt, SOB who ever graced the WH.

Sage,
Absolutely, positively! I agree 110%. But remember: this ISN'T an Obama or a Democratic plan. This is a BUSH and a REPUBLICAN plan. And he'll make sure that we all know that! He will take full credit for putting the [competent or otherwise!] diplomats in Tehran and then leave it to Obama [we can hope!] to make it work.
Preparation being so much of diplomacy, he's still got 6 months to mreally, really piss them off before whoever has to pick up the mess!!!

Chris in Paris-
If "the Democrats have been right all along," why didn't Bill Clinton do this sometime during his eight years in office?
Yes, you're quite right, it's long overdue, etc., and George W. Bush is far from perfect, etc., etc., etc., but you can at least give him some credit for making things easier for our next President who takes office less than 200 days from now.

He was to busy having to defend himself against the republicans from the time he came into office. I am not a Clinton lover but you have to admit Genrich did all they could to impeach him for lying about sex. He didn't send troops to kill for nothing. Bush on the other hand has been a war criminal for sending troops to Iraq for a trumped up war. By the way he planned going for Iraq long before 9-11. On a scale Clinton or Bush and the damage they did to this country well I will take Clinton hands down.

I don't trust these bastards one bit. I'm suspicious that this is a scam so they can say, "Well, look, we tried talking to them, just like you said, but we didn't like what we heard, so now it's bombs over Tehran." Just in time to hand incoming President Obama not only the messes in Afghanistan and Iraq to deal with, but a shitty economy, record oil and gas prices, and a new nightmare in Iran. Make things as bad as possible, relying on the shortness of America's collective memory to forget that they started it. This way, they can Jimmy Carter his ass in 2012 and say, "See? He's so ineffectual. He can't even do anything about all these problems. Nevermind that we started them all. We're ready to bring morning in America all over again."
Seriously, this is perverse. No matter what the argument, we KNOW that this was not intended by the framers or anyone else since. It isn't a "if the majority wants it" kind of thing, this was one of the MAIN reasons we broke away from the monarchy.
