And as if Burma doesn't have enough trouble, 350 died from a typhoon this weekend. The Artic threat blogged below made me wonder if this phenomenon has anything to do with all the recent earthquake activity, storms, etc. I'm not very well versed in atmospheric science, but doesn't the amount of actual water on the planet have a lot to do with the amount of storm activity we associate with the skies? That more water attracts more storms and where it originates has more to do with bodies of water than land mass?

What about all the recent earthquake activity, such as the New Madrid fault acting up, the northwest activity, etc.? The earth's plates, it seems to me, would be affected by the tons and tons of water released by melting of large bodies of ice, just as I suspect constant drilling for oil (replaced in many cases by water-based solutions) could also affect how the plates act, even if the drilling is hundreds of miles away. Or am I way off base?

    Any geologists out there?

Daydreams of plush developments have evaporated here at home becaue of economic realities, so it makes sense that the daydreamers would move their fantasies to Baghdad which, as far as we know, is just a paint-ball park where Bush & Co. act out their illusions. Fortunately for humanity, it isn't a real place with real people in it, is it?

There is no more British Empire. But the Pox Americana spreads eternal--imagine Bagdhad Disneyland! Duckman already did a show on a Ho Chi Minh City war theme park.

Does anyone get the point that this attempt to Americanize the Middle East is exactly the reason there are terrorists? My little neice learned early on that grabbing her brother's toys and yelling "Mine!" was a no-no. Will our country ever get out of the terrible twos?

This is disgusting. Until the people of Iraq have electricity and clean water and some safety, this place is a symbol of American arrogance.

Honestly, I hope the workers planted explosives in the cornerstones.

We need a new word..."absurd" is meaningless in the face of these monsters.
Tell me what the Navy! has to do with this, or the Pentagon? Are they turning into the new resort company?

Just yesterday 10-year old boys in Iraq, blown to bits while looking through garbage for something to sell. Parents practically dying from grief. Our helicopter shot into or at the building...missiles. Sadr city. In a CITY. And then blame the insurgents (who live there) for "hiding behind civilians" forcing them to shoot civilians. Feels a lot like a wife beater claiming he is anry with his wife for "making" him beat her. There actually ARE choices being made here.

So it seems a mite mean spirited and Antoinette-like to start planning a Disney Theme park, shopping malls while the people are all being bombarded..

How many millions of dollars are we investing on the study of this rediculous plan? I'm certain that some old college bud of Bush is now making millions doing the study on how to milk a another hundred billion out of this country, and directly into the foreign bank accounts of another Bush crony!
