AMERICAblog: Cafferty: Why does John McCain want to cancel the debate?

  • tbhull · 1 year ago
    OT -

Paulson says we should all be angry. Fuck him. Someone needs to ask him how angry he was when he was paid salary and bonues of $38 million by Goldman Sachs in 2007.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
we should be angry... and Paulson and the other "geniuses" that enabled, encouraged and facilitated this meltdown should be in stocks on the white house lawn...
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Yes, and keep a pile of rotten apples and tomatoes nearby.

They all knew what was going on. They created this mess in order to transfer more wealth to the wealthy---ala the Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein.

Team Obama says "the debate is on."

Expect this, with spittle flying from Steve Schmidt, and the light flashing from his chrome dome, or from snotty Nicolle Wallace or Nancy Pfotenhauer:

Why does Obama, in the midst of the worst crisis in America since 1929, pretend it's "business as usual"? Why is he not putting the good of the country, suffering as it is, above the needs of his petty little campaign? Why is he not as selfless and dedicated to his country as Senator McCain is? Why is he so concerned to score points in a stinkin' lil' "debate" when Sen McCain is bringing both parties together for a workable solution to this huge crisis, which could mean the end of America as we know it?!
  • SouthernYankee · 1 year ago
Lets hope Obama keep the schedule. I wouldn't give him any breaks.
  • KarenMrsLloydRichards · 1 year ago
Jack neatly points out how McCain hasn't set foot in the Senate since April, so he's calling bullshit on the Maverick. I want to be Jack's second wife...
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
MSNBC just stated Reid requests neither candidate come back and have input because it would inject presidential politics into a serious issue.
  • gwpriester · 1 year ago
What if in the preparation for the debates the McCain team has discovered that McCain can not focus and is going to look senile and out of touch with reality?
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
and how is that different from any other day on the campaign trail this year?
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
That's why McCain has not been available to the press, nor Sarah Palin. This is the ultimate fast one the Republicans are trying to pull: keep both of their candidates being exposed to the public yet steal the election by hook or crook.
  • cephas · 1 year ago
Watching the McCain announcement video, I think he's hiding some bad health. He looks like absolute crap. Look at his left eye. Something is wrong there, and it's near where that deep melanoma was. He looks like he's lost weight in his face, there are folds that I don't remember seeing before in this video. Maybe the American Idol makeup artist didn't get to work on him today or something, but I really wonder if he is a well man. After the posts you've had from doctors, I'm even more convinced he is holding out on some bad health news. Which makes a Palin/McCain win even more deeply deeply troubling.

I've already got condiments and margarita fixings and the linens out for Friday. McPussy better show up...
  • Deacon_Blues · 1 year ago
Uh Johnny, everybody sees through this stunt. Other than to serve as a reminder of the Keating Five debacle, what other use would you be? What a sad, pathetic shell of a man you've become. How many more points do you guys think he's gonna drop after this?
  • EmGD · 1 year ago
I think McCain is hoping that he can put the game on pause, then he can get up and 'trip' into the Nintendo, resetting 'Election 2008' and getting a do-over.

Of course he wants to cancel the debate.
He has no clear position, and he will get hammered. He wants to wait until all the answers are supplied to him based on the outcome of the decision, and then pick the most spin-able points and adopt them as his own.
He's stolen every theme of Obama's campaign already, why not game the system once again to use to his advantage.
    What a scumbag.
  • ImpureScience · 1 year ago
I think you have to hand it to those guys: they sure do know how to make the most of not being up to the job. Palin can't talk to the press and needs special arrangements for her debate to compensate for her 'inexperience'. McCain can't vote in the Senate and campaign at the same time. I cannot believe that anyone on either side finds this inspiring.

Did you hear Obama say we still will have a debate.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
DAMNNNNnnnnn, its about time, Barry! HOORAY, he said it! The President should be able to do two things at once. YESSSSSSsssssssssssssssssssssssss! Barack Obama said the debate should go forward.
  • PeteWa · 1 year ago
What a shock that McFuddled doesn't want to have the debate now.
It is just too hard for McGramps to run his campaign, pay attention the financial crisis he helped create, and also hold the debate.

Poor McTunnelvision, just one problem at a time, please!
  • jmcon007 · 1 year ago
"Postponing" the debate is a neo-con trial balloon that may well point to the next step, which is to create an emergency so great that the ELECTIONS should be 'postponed'. All for the good of the country, you know. In my mind, that day will be the first day of our second civil war. And the Constitution gives patriots direction in just such a circumstance of an attempted coup. Hold on to your guns, whatever you do.

McCain chickened out. Plain and simple.

Or maybe theres something else going on here.. this is the first time I can remember when a presidential candidate backed out of a debate.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
    McCock-a-doodle.
    You called it right.
  • OneManComotion · 1 year ago
It has just dawned on me that we are seeing our next president not only act presidential, but actually dictating policy. One might go back to the Iraq position of a time table from their own president (agreement).

America...your next PRESIDENT...Barak Obama. I am so very impressed with the way he is handling this problem as well as all of the other problems that his campaign has had to handle.

I will be proud to have him as MY (and ours) president. He is on the ball and ready at anytime...no fears here.
And for the first time in the past 14 years we might actually have a president that the American public voted into power.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Quote from Obama's statement:

"This is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who in 40 days will become responsible for this mess. It will be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once."
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
What happens now? Obama just faced McCain's game of chicken and called him out. What happens if McCain refuses to debate.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Perhaps Obama will go and make a speech standing next to McCain's empty chair.

However, I think McCain will go too and slip in complaints that what they're doing takes away focus from the economic crisis.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
    ZINNNGGGGGGGGGGGggggg!

Obama, "John McCain and I both have big planes with our names on them that can get us from Mississippi to Washington, DC and back..."

    OUCH AND BAMMO!

Also, "The only possible miscommunication was when we were going to do some kind of joint statement without John McCain appearing live on national 'tee vee'" (paraphrasing)

Obama just declared what I theorized happened, they spoke about the economic crisis and McCain slipped in, "I really want to delay debates and possibly suspend out campaigns and Obama was silent..." then John McCain SPRINTED to national press and got on national 'tee vee' and announced he was postponing his campaign and the debate was cancelled. McCain is desperate.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Oh yeah! Just like McCain sprinted down to Texas to score political points during a hurricane. The man will do anything, anything to score points.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Notice how Obama said over and over again, " I have been on the phone daily with Paulson, Reid and Pelosi" He doesn't need to see Paulson's eyeballs to have input.

The left side of McSame's face is drooping more than usual today. Think it means anything?
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
They've implanted a transmitter for the debates and the body is rejecting it.
  • Rufus · 1 year ago
If the country goes France 1792 crazy and string the bastards up can I have their shoes? I really like McCain's shoes. And, re the debate, if McCain can't make it Palin should stand in for him. Hey, she's qualified, isn't she??
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
I saw a great bumper sticker once: When the Rapture happens, I'm taking your SUV.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Hey, if we bring out Madame Guillotine for the McCain's just think of how it will affect the housing crisis! THIRTEEN PLUS FAMILIES will get a roof over their heads! HOORAY!

The reason why I say thirteen plus is that I'm sure each house could probably comfortably house at least two to three families. LOL!
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
And they would have a car and probably a swimming pool. I'll vote for that.
  • lies · 1 year ago
WTF is going on in America?
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
Yes, to Obama and others below.

Our next President will have to deal with several god-awful messes all at once. Conducting a campaign, going to debates, returning to Congress to cast votes---these are matters Obama has shown he can do easily. McSame? Not so much.

Watching Chris Matthews and I've noticed another one of Matthew's unprofessional tics. Of course, we all already know he tends to absolutely speak over everyone when they are trying to say something relevent. Especially when he thinks he has something witty to say. The thing, or tic, I've noticed is he has a REALLY bad habit of saying, "Yea... " or "Right..." to absolutely whatever crap he is being fed by his guests. He needs to keep his mouth shut while people are trying to make remarks, especially when he has someone on there feeding him lines of bullshit. He will then turn around after saying, "Yea... right..." to some wingnut and claim he was totally neutral on the subject. He absolutely tries to play both sides and then claim he was always right, or self congratulates himself by saying, "You and I know... yadda... yadda... yadda..." I can't believe MSNBC puts Keith Olbermann in the same league as Matthews. Matthews is a total joke.

Matthews has Orrin Hatch on, and that punk just said, "I think Republicans and Democrats need to come together in a bipartisan manner and work together." Then he went ahead and bashed Obama by saying, "John McCain is known for his bipartisanship and Barack Obama is not," followed by Matthews exclaiming "Fair enough!" That is exactly what I'm talking about. Matthews just lets Republicans, like Orrin Hatch, slam Democrats without ever challenging their partisan statements.
