AMERICAblog: CBS report: Rise of gang members and felons in the military

stuca · 1 year agoFor starters, most of the enlisted men going into the military are not the brightest, most committed, future leaders that many of us would like to believe; if they were they would have gone to college and the then went on to OCS to become an officer. If they were anything like myself, they saw themselves at 18 years old- in a dead -end position and did't want to mire themselves in a career of construction work. These enlistees are, for the most part, the kids of blue collar America, who want to do more than what they have done up that point in life. And from this point- being from whatever median to lower class economic group they come from, there are going to be bad apples in the group. What it seems to me is being suggested, is to take the struggeling youth of this country, which is the vast majority, and once they make a mistake, cast them aside. Leave them with limited skills, in an ever increasingly competive job market, to just walk the streets unambitiously. At least the military affords an opportunity to change. I think everyone should at least should consider joining the military- for if nothing more... than the experience. Besides if you can't conform to the standards tasks of the U.S. military.... that is why there is a little thing called the UCMJ. I see the military as a crossroads...a starting block for the confused and a last resort for the hopeless.
