Oh, NO, not a Chia Obama!
  • John Aravosis · 10 months ago
    Oh yes.
  • An_American_Karol · 10 months ago
I would say it's almost an insult, but there is a Scooby Chia - everyone loves Scooby!
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 10 months ago
no, I'd say insulting was the chimpy urinal John posted a pict of... I'd like to buy one though :-)
  • mirth · 10 months ago
That chimpy urinal was designed (and here I'm guessing) by Virgin Atlantic.

Funny you should mention that. I have my 3 yr old granddaughter with me now and that is what we are watching Scooby Doo. She just loves Scooby. We even had a birthday cake with Scooby Doo theme on the cake.

One sunny day in January, 2009 an old man approached the
White House from Across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he’d been
sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the U.S. Marine standing guard and said,
“I would like to go in and meet with President Bush.”
The Marine looked at the man and said, “Sir, Mr. Bush
is no longer president and no longer resides here.”
The old man said, “Okay”, and walked away.
The following day, the same man approached the White House
and said to the same Marine, “I would like to go in and meet with
    President Bush.”
The Marine again told the man, “Sir, as I said
yesterday, Mr. Bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.”
The man thanked him and, again, just walked away.
The third day, the same man approached the White House and
spoke to the very same U.S. Marine, saying “I would like to go in and
    meet with President Bush.”
The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked
at the man and said, “Sir, this is the third day in a row you have
been here asking to speak to Mr. Bush. I’ve told you already that Mr. Bush is no
longer the president and no longer resides here. Don’t you understand?”
The old man looked at the Marine and said,
“Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it.”

    Good one.
  • dacnova · 10 months ago
All well and good, but I'd rather see a poll on Mrs. Obama's ball gown. Personally, I thought it was a major disappointment.

And the happy chia looks more like Harvey Milk...
  • An_American_Karol · 10 months ago
I thought the gown was a major disappointment also.
I could see her in sleek black, white or red satin. The cut and pompoms just didn't do it for me, and the strap?
She has a great athletic body; the dress she wore tonight looked as if she were trying to cover herself up.
That's as catty as i am going to be with someone I think is just wonderful otherwise.
  • John Aravosis · 10 months ago
I don't think it's catty. Part of being president, and first lady, is looking presidential. It's the reason I didn't like Obama's official portrait - or rather, the reason I had an opinion at all. Appearances matter in these circumstances. I think either Mrs. Obama is getting fashion advice, or she's not taking any. Either way, I didn't love what she was wearing today, and didn't love what she wore the night they wrapped up the nomination. She's a striking, tall, beautiful woman - but I don't think she dresses to her full potential. Not that Laura Bush does either.
  • An_American_Karol · 10 months ago
I didn't like the black and red thing she wore at the convention either,. When she tied the sweater around her middle it made her look like a black widow. Very unfortunate. Okay, now I'm going to shut up. lol
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 10 months ago
OTOH... she has more fashion sense than most of the 1st ladies... back to Jackie I'd say.

c'mon... barbara bush?? nancy reagan?? even Hillary??

she's got it, she just doesn't flaunt it like Cher. no biggie.

I liked the white dress... then again, I'm known for wearing a kilt and Pecs t-shirt :-)
  • mirth · 10 months ago
I hope Michelle will break many staid DC rules, including those of First Lady fashion. If someone is steering her to young, hip designers like the brilliant Jason Wu, who made her white gown, then she is getting very good advice.

But the black&red thing was awful.
  • An_American_Karol · 10 months ago
I agree, Jeff. Most first ladies think they need to dress like Aunt Bea.
  • AngelaChanning · 10 months ago
I agree about Obama's portrait -- doing digitial and the angle did something to it - can't put my finger on it. But we all have a photo or two that we regret. LOL. As for our First Lady, the Inauguration outfit and coat was resplendent. I think the ball gown probably looked better in person but probably did not look as good on TV. That said, Mrs. Obama (who signs her emails to supporters just as "Michelle" - a nice touch) could wear anything and still look good. What counts is that she will not be one of those vapid robot smile while they stab you in the back Bush women. Thank you for listening.
  • SouthernYankee · 10 months ago
I think Laura Bush had nice taste in cloths. I remember the red ball gown and I liked it. I think Michelle is tall and she should take advantage of it. I agree with you she could have done better. President Obama's outfit was Ok. He could have worn a better suit. I kept wanting to reach into the screen to straighten his tie. He is a good looking and I have seen him in better fitting suits. But they have 4 yrs to get it right. I am glad that they are not so overly concerned about fashion.
  • SouthernYankee · 10 months ago
You know I didn't care for the dress either. I didn't like the way the one shoulder strap was. To me it looked like old fashion blank you throw on the bed. The dress she wore during the day was nice. I loved the color and loved the match of the shoes and gloves and especially the color. She looked nice in that. But she got to do something with the hair.

I heard that way back in Papa Bush's administration, there was a Chia called "Barbara's Bush." :-)

as I recall... it grew mother in-law's tongue.

Did anyone else see the fabuous bit ABC just did, in the way of interviews of people attending the inauguration? it was a piece about the granddaughter of a slave from Mississippi who happens to be a college professor from Michigan named-----McCain. Her forebears were slaves on a plantation owned by the forebears of John Mc Cain. How sweet it is.

    ARTISTS:

I suggest that some enterprising artist build a bust of George W. Bush out of donated used shoes.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 10 months ago
He looks best without the fro.
  • mirth · 10 months ago
I thought Michelle's gown, which showed off her toned body and emphasized her youth, was beautiful and she was beautiful in it.
  • Rob Mule · 10 months ago
The test model George W. Bush Chias only oozed black slime and were quickly withdrawn from the market...
  • Soundboy_jeff_meanie · 10 months ago
I'm not sure if I'm fascinated or aghast...

sorta like I feel after watching one of John Waters' early movies.

    I think I need a cigarette.

I've told this story before. In the '80's I bought (at a major drugstore chain) a chia pet with a sitting woman with legs in an indian position. It was called Barbara's Bush. You figure out where the seeds went. My brother in law still has it, in original box I'm sure. Can you imagine them allowing that to be sold today?
  • takeasiesta · 10 months ago
My roommate had the news a couple nights ago and they were talking about how Obama merchandise is projected to be around a quarter of a billion dollar industry. Maybe this was his real economic stimulus plan. I can't believe people are buying this stuff.
  • RainbowPhoenix · 10 months ago
I don't know why the existence of this product suprises me.
  • curlytoes79 · 10 months ago
Can Americans cash in on the Obama presidency by selling incredibly silly merchandise? YES WE CAN!
  • AdmNaismith · 10 months ago
This isn't as bad as the Homer Simpson Chia Pet . Homer Simpson doesn't even have hair. At least a green, clover afro is more or less appropriate to an Obama Pet.
  • SouthernYankee · 10 months ago
I don't like it at all. To me it cheapens the office. Just like I don't like things made out of the stars and stripes, i.e. T-shirts, hats, pants, any thing that has the american flag on it I just can't stand. To me it is demeaning. My father and father-in-law fought in wars and to me our flag should show respect to all those soldiers that died in War. I am sorry sometimes the almighty dollar is not the most important thing.
