    Yeah, Banana Split Republic

    BTW, FIRST!

Mullen needs to be GONE on day 1 of an Obama administration. Matter of fact so do a lot more of the "let's usher in the Rapture" types that the Bushies have placed in the military.
  • burro · 1 year ago
It's coming down to crunch time. They're going to do whatever it takes to save their hiney's.

This is really no surprise. Today's military is little more than the armed wing of the republican party. From West Point to the Air Force Academy to Quantico it's nothing but religious end-timers and baby jeebus squeezers all marching to the tune of "Onward Xtian Soldiers".
We really don't expect the "peaceful transfer of power" this time, do we? Wait till the election gets closer and we find out how dangerous we have become to 'Merican freedoms. We are gonna be so surprised!
  • SouthernYankee · 1 year ago
Ben you are so right. I know a lot of military personnel don't like mixing both religion and pushing it on those that don't believe in god. Republicans really believe they are building soldiers to fight the big one. God forbid if you say anything. It wasn't that way before the republicans took over. These young soldiers are so impressional.
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
Unfortunately, I think you are correct. They are holding all the big guns and we are left holding our puds.
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
The military are paid to follow the wishes of the President and Congress. Their opinion only matters on issues of execution not on policy. This is an open attempt to influence the voting public. Who the President is is not a concern of Admiral Mullen. If this turd doesn't watch it one of the first things Obama will do is fire his ass or transfer him to Fairbanks Alaska to fuel planes.
  • nsr · 1 year ago
Taliban on the run-- mainly, running around taking over provinces in Afghanistan. Maybe Mr Top Brass should be working on that.
  • Deacon_Blues · 1 year ago
I hope to Jeebus that we have a Jiggs Casey (or Burt Lancaster) out there somewhere -- just in case.
  • sukabi1 · 1 year ago
There are military regulations that PROHIBIT military personnel from using their status/uniform as a platform from which to endorse/campaign for/ or otherwise give the appearance of military support of one party / agenda over another. He's clearly breaking military codes of conduct.

And ALL military/government leadership roles should be changed when Obama is sworn in. The military leadership has been so corrupted over the last 7 years it's laughable.
  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
Yup. Last time I looked this was AGAINST THE FUCKING LAW. But this IS a Banana Republic. Has been since Sandra Day O'Connor said to her ailing husband, in 2000, "look honey I'll be home to fuck cows or whatever we raise on our Arizona ranch just as soon as swing the vote to crown the Chimperor."

Buh bye, the United States of America. Hello Fourth Reich.
  • Ben Dover · 1 year ago
There are entire nests of republican neo-cons that have infested every nook and cranny of each and every governmental department within our government that will have to be exposed, fired and ran out of office in the next Democratic administration.
Holy water, ash stakes and garlic necklaces might be a good idea as well.
  • SouthernYankee · 1 year ago
I was read earlier I think it was on TPM (not sure) but some guy wrote an article about Bush should take over the country and be a dictator. Also that the US should clean out Iraq and put americans there to live. I was in shock. But I have been have these little feelings that he is going to try something before he leaves office and declare marshal law. I don't trust this administration. They are a bunch of crooks and liars.
  • Linzack · 1 year ago
Not one of the "commanders" will be left when Obama gets in. He will clean house... and it's about time. The current posse of military leaders has failed us by not standing up to Bush... and our military standing down. D.
  • hardeknox · 1 year ago
His option, if he disagrees, is to resign. Anything else is mutiny. We have rules about that, too.
  • PeteWa · 1 year ago
Frag him. He is an enemy of the Constitution that he swore to uphold.

meant to type "frak" not "frag".
    freudian slip I guess.
But honestly, I see no difference between this administration and these types of unAmerican military "leaders" and the traditional Stalinist one-party types.
He should be relieved of command and then sent into exile, if not imprisoned.
  • Steve_in_CNJ · 1 year ago
is there any corner of the US government that has not been corrupted by self-serving republicans? the pentagon morphing into a 527 group for mccain? next thing you know, the justice department will start selectively prosecuting democrats. oh wait...
  • Linzack · 1 year ago
The good general will be forced into retirement long before Obama has a chance to save America... D.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
They never learn, do they? Here we have Bush and the Rethuglicans whose policies really stink, and whose decision to invade Iraq has backfired, leaving hundreds of thousands dead, injured and displaced, and these guys, still want to back these losers. Obama has stated many times, that he will be careful getting out, as Bush was careless getting in to Iraq, and yet, they pretend not to understand, or they are dense.

Despite the arrogance shown by the pro war crowd, they just don't have any self respect. We have overstayed our welcome in Iraq, and they want us to leave, but there is no talk of getting out of there. Have we no shame?
  • coolcatdaddy · 1 year ago
I agree that when Obama wins (and, the way the McCain campaign is looking right now, he probably will), there's need to be some administrative cleaning house that goes on from the top down.

His appointees to various government agencies will need to do a review of policies and procedures that have been ignored, skewed, or corrupted under the previous administration and get rid of the incompetent rats that have floated in on the Bush/Cheney rafts over the past few years.

The government needs to work - it shouldn't to be one big corrupt political machine to benefit cronies and extend power.

That's why guys like this are breaking the rules - they know the tide if shifting and there will be some cleaning house in a few months. They're desperate to hang on to what they have.
  • kevinbgoode · 1 year ago
Next they'll try to bring out the old crew from the USS Forrestal to endorse McCain. . .
  • ron071 · 1 year ago
Does any poster know the details of McCain's fiasco while on the USS Forrestal? Immediately after this disaster McCain was transfered to another carrier. Please, anyone who knows, come forward. Assuredly, if any other pilot did what McCain did he would have be thrown out of the military. Sons and grandsons of admirals are held to very low standards if any standards at all. Hopefully, we'll get the details which will finish off this absurd campaign to bring further disasters to the US.

"Now You Will Know The Rest Of The Story"

If This Doesn't Make Your Blood Boil You Are Not A True American!!!

McCain crashed 5 jets, plus he was responsible for the horrible USS Forrestal fire In 1967.

Surviving crewmen and those who investigated the Forrestal fire case reported that McCain deliberately 'wet-started' his A-4E Skyhawk to shake up the guy in the F-4 Phantom behind his A-4.

'Wet-starts', done either deliberately (the starter motor switch allowed kerosene to pool in the engine and give a wet start) or accidentally, shoot a large flame from the tail of the aircraft. In McCain's case, the 'wet-start' 'cooked off' and launched the M34 Zuni rocket from the rear F-4 that punctured the Skyhawk's fuel tank, knocked the M-65 1000 lb. bomb off it's 500 lb. rated mount, and touched off the explosions and massive fire.

The F-4 pilot was reportedly killed in the conflagration, along with 167 of his fellow Forrestal shipmates (including those who died later from wounds suffered).

    What a turd.

ron: look at the link at the top of the post and don't call me lunchie I am not a snackwell. Don't lecture me on how to post there is a link.
  • lark83 · 1 year ago
I don't know where Lynchie gets his stuff. My research showed that an F-4 on the opposite side of the deck launched a rocked when it went from external power to internal power. McCain's plane was parked on the opposite side of the deck. So he had nothing to do with that - he was just there.

I'm a retired AF officer and I know McCain's reputation in the military is solid. We won't find any serious skeletons there. We should just concentrate on the fact that he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, and maybe he never was.
  • ron071 · 1 year ago
The question remains regarding why McCain was immediately transferred off
the USS Forrestal after the tragic accident which left many dead and wounded.
Perhaps the long-awaited release of the McCain military records would clear
up any confusion. If not released-why not? The same rational exists for his
full medical records. These records ( military and medical ) have been
released by previous candidates, but not John McCain. Why not? What is he
hiding? If nothing is being hidden then why not release the records?

I think he volunteered to fly missions off of another carrier. The Forestal was going home for repairs, and McCain volunteered to stay with another carrier and continue being deployed. Seriously, there is nothing there

    lark: another link: http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com...

McCain III was awarded “medals for valor” equal to nearly a medal-and-a-half for each
    hour he spent in combat
For 23 combat missions (an estimated 20 hours over enemy territory), the U.S. Navy awarded
McCain III, the son of famous admirals, a Silver Star, a Legion of Merit for Valor, a Distinguished
Flying Cross, three Bronze Stars, two Commendation medals plus two Purple Hearts and a
    dozen service medals.
“McCain had roughly 20 hours in combat,” explains Bill Bell, a veteran of Vietnam and former
chief of the U.S. Office for POW/MIA Affairs -- the first official U.S. representative in Vietnam
since the 1973 fall of Saigon.
“Since McCain got 28 medals,” Bell continued, “that equals to about a medal-and-a-half for
each hour he spent in combat. There were infantry guys -- grunts on the ground -- who had more
than 7,000 hours in combat and I can tell you that there were times and situations where I’m sure
a prison cell would have looked pretty good to them by comparison. The question really is how
many guys got that number of medals for not being shot down.”

    Do some research
  • lark83 · 1 year ago
I looked at that site you named - 2 nut jobs talking on some right wing nut job talk show. You also site a bunch of ignorant people claiming that being a POW was a cakewalk. Phrases like "20 hours of combat" to describe a POW locked up and often tortured for 5.5 years is pure igorance. I'm a loyal democrat an anti-McCain, but even I'm offended by your characterizations.
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
I don't actually care if you are offended or not. That is your view of those sites. You asked for links I gave them. Don't like them tough.
You obviously did not read the article from the vietnam vets against McCriminal. The comment was all the medals for 20 hours flying and comparing them to people who served on the ground in battle for years. At least read the link before you condemn it. In the end you are entitled to your opinion and I to mine.John Mccain is a charlatan.

Mullen has left himself no other choices if Obama becomes president but retire. If I were President Obama, I would ask for his resignation.
  • Dianne_in_DC · 1 year ago
I believe Mullen has just guaranteed his retirement in January 2009.
  • ron071 · 1 year ago
The politization of the military during the Bush/Cheney 7+years is not new. The politization of the Justice Department is now well known. What may not be as widely known is that Bush/Cheney/Rove, etc. have perverted most every department and agency of the US goverrnment in their unending quest for absolute power. History will be very unkind to these guys.
  • shanobama · 1 year ago
Even Maliki knew not to endorse any candidate.

This sad sack of shit Mullen is only one of the clowns that Obama will need to "retire" when he becomes President.

Too bad the Head of the Joint Chiefs is just another Pentagon shill, pimping for the MIC, but then, aren't they all? This is what the highest officers are to the junta: bootlicking pimps for their pals.
So degraded has the military command become, that the "officers" are glad to do it.
