More about the Yule Goat
nobody is suggesting that we ban words, but the fact of the matter is, you must be willing to accept the consequences of your words, which the religious right never is. you are welcome to call black people the n word if you want, but don't get all surprised when you wake up minus a few teeth.
as for charlie crist "doing something right", well, no he didn't. he stuck his nose into "a controversey" to curry favor with the voters. much like when hillary went to talk to the rutgers bball team. it's not taking a stand for what's right, it's the most patronising thing in the world.
I see no difference between the two situations. Look at the parallels here between Warren giving the invocation and this song.
It's just a two-minute song (or speech in the case of Warren)
It's not setting policy
It's just the RNC reaching out and being "inclusive" of the racist memebrs of their party.
It just points back to the fact that racist speech is automatically considered to be wrong. But, anti-gay speech, not so much. It's up for debate. It needs to be discussed and compromised and coddled.
So, the question we've been asking since the Warren announcement.... where is the inclusion of the racists and anti-semites?, has been answered by the reaction to the "magic negro" song. There is no room in the big inclusive tent for racists or anti-semites. But, all the anti-gays, come on in, sit down, let's see where we can compromise on civil rights for teh gays....
Racism = horrible
Anti-semitism = terrible
anti-gay bigotry = valid viewpoint to be included.
We are just being "inclusive" by trying to include sexual orientation and gender identity into the exisiting civil rights classes.
Sorry of the whole fucking world isn't on-board with your sodomy and repulsive LIFESTYLES!!!!!
NO ONE gives a fuck about your desire for "rights." Ok? It is the LEAST of BO's worries!
Do you feel the vortex of stupid pulling at you from your own black hole of a mind?
Also, the LA Times columnist never called Obama a "Magical Negro", he was criticizing people who thought of him that way. Also the whole song is offensive. The guy playing "al sharpton" doesn't sound anything like Al Sharpton, rather he sounds like a stereotypical street thug. Using a word doesn't make you a racist, it's how you use it.
Seriously, why do people think that the best way to put someone down is to accuse them of being gay. That is the extreme of homophobia.
Bush is a sociopath, a murderer, a liar, a traitor -- that should be enough.
I don't think Jay Randal meant classifying Bush as a closeted gay guy as an insult... you took it as one and I think that speaks volumes of you and how you perceive people, and not Jay Randal who only asked a valid question.
"White men always think it's unfair because they can't say" the "N" word (which, of course, Rock said). "OK, I'll trade you," he said. "You can say it, and I'll raise interest rates."
This line of thinking has always bothered me. Whether it's a sexual or racial slur, if you feel it's inappropriate when someone uses the word toward you, why make it okay to use the word yourself?
A young person, hearing people use words like these, doesn't see the distinction of "It's okay for me, not okay for you". All they know is that they hear these words used in popular culture and then get slammed if they repeat what they hear.
I spent time in Texas when I was very young ('68-'71) and there was pervasive use of a certain racial epithet, both in my home and in the community. 30+ years later, I still struggle not to use the word when I'm angry and no one beats me up more about it than I do. (For the record, I don't say it out loud. It bothers me when it just crosses my mind.) It's a horribly mixed message to say it's okay for some but not others to use.
My point is, if the word is wrong, then it's wrong. Period. No quibbling, no justifications, nothing. If I don't want someone calling me a fag (or anything else), then I don't open the door and make it look like I don't mind by using the word to refer to myself.
Just how stupid does the GOP think we are.
Endorses bigotry
Puts its in a hat of a preacher who's fat
And pulls out 'Unity'!
Barack the Magic PrezO
Has a wide grin & big ears
If you use pot (like he used to do a lot)
He'll make you disappear for 5 years!
Barack the Magic PrezO
Will a '1-term Wonder' be
Then he'll go back to Chicago
Wondering, "What happened to me?"
Can't? Hmm.
Thanks for playing!
One thing he DID do that I like was to get an affordable health insurance program made available to all Floridians under 65 years old. It's bare-bones, but it's something.
I just wish he hadn't given (albeit tepid) support to Amendment 2 (making same-sex marriage unconstitutional).
You will only find an "accusal" of someone being gay sounding like an insult when it is used against those hypocrits that oppose gay equality in public while engaging in gay "behavior" in private.
And I would strongly support his coming out of the closet -- perhaps he's bi -- and as a bonus, it would be beautiful to see the apoplectic faces of the actual crazy Republicans Florida is full of when they find out. (:
