''This much is clear: the Olympic games don't work like they did 80 years ago,'' German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier said according to an advance copy of the article made available by Bild Friday.
''You can't just host glamorous events for television while things are going topsy-turvy in your own backyard. The host has to allow thousands of journalists into the country -- you won't be able to sweep anything under the rug.''
The Germans know well how Hitler used the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin for propaganda purposes.

yeah.. dictatorships are usually like that.
and just think.. they have used our money (the crap we buy is made in China, and Bush borrows billions from them almost on a daily basis) to enforce this crackdown.
small world indeed.

Let's not forget Wal*Mart has donated half a million to the Clinton Foundation. I'm sure that has nothing to do with wanting to keep government regulation and import oversight off the table, right?

Is this Chinese code for "coalition of the willing"?
China is learning fast. If you label them as "terr'ists" then you're off, scot-free.

Lead in toys, poison in pet food, poison in blood thinning medicine. What is it going to take before this administration stops this insanity. One thing that might do it is if Cheney gets hold of some of that tainted heart medicine.

I too used to be a Hillary supporter. But three crucial issues convinced me to never support either Clinton ever again.
1. Bill conceded several trade exemptions to the Chinese during the 90's that directly led to increased harrassment and subjugation of the indigenous Tebetans.
2. Bill and Hill were directly linked to creating a racist negative ad in which they darkened Obama's skin tone and widened his nose to appeal to the most bigoted nature of the Hillary supporters.
3. When the White House logs were released against Hillary's attempts to hide them, they showed without a doubt that she was INSIDE the White House during Bill's tryst with the young intern and his crime of perjury when questioned about it. Hillary was THERE and cannot deny it any more.

I'm a little surprised Israel hasn't come out in support of China. You'd think countries illegally occupying a foreign culture would stick together. Although Israel probably doesn't want to draw that comparison.

I sometimes feel it is not right to talk about Human rights in Tibet when we have violated the rights of Iraq citizens.

OT Some good news:
PRINCETON, NJ -- Barack Obama has quickly made up the deficit he faced with Hillary Clinton earlier this week, with the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update on Democratic presidential nomination preferences showing 48% of Democratic voters favoring Obama and 45% Clinton.
From Saudi Arabia to China to the US...from one authoritarian govt to another. Remember, plastics are the future.
When you need plastic, or the petroleum from which it comes, you support authoritarianism. It's no wonder that China is having fun with capitalism and enriching a few at the expense of the many. They don't mind all that help from American capitalists, either, who could care less about Tibet.
After all, Bush is going to the Olympics and China will greet him with open arms and have their checkbook open to help support his illegal wars.

Gee we really fell down in the job in 1959 when China took Tibet. Where was the domino theory then? Why didn't we have a 10 year quagmire in the mountains? Guess we just didn't get the memo. Or maybe dominoes don't fall properly off mountains that big.

China's occupation of Tibet is the problem. What is the solution?
If the Dalia Lama becomes the ruler of Tibet, is that not like taking one dictator and replacing it with another?
What is the proper solution that we should all be advocating for in Tibet? Democratic autonomy? Independent Democracy? Or Independent theocratic monarchy?
Just want to know up front what we are all advocating for, just in case we get what we wish?
