AMERICAblog: China prepares to go Tiananmen again - threatening executions

  • jimtreg · 4 months ago
Here's a simple equation for all you PoliSci people out there:

Ethnic Minority + Natural Resources = Political violence. The ethnic minority wants to be protected by either the creation of a new nation state, or autonomy, but the area they live in is so wealthy that there's no way the larger nation will let them go. This simple calculus has been seen in Iraq and Turkey with the Kurds, Northern Ireland, Kashmir, Basque country, and a few others I can't think of right now. This has nothing to do with the nature of the government itself, but rather with the calculus.

The Chinese should take some history lesson from the Americans, try to kill all the natives and put the rest of them in reservations and allow them to open casinos so they will not start anymore trouble or may be start wars in other countries, go around killing Arabs.

Is a crime to go Tiananmen style killing few hundred innocents, but is Democracy at its best when you kill thousands in the name of freedom
  • mikatuva · 4 months ago
The difference is that the Han may rule, but they are a localized minority keeping the other minorities under their thumb through economic prosperity. A major economic downturn could lead to a disaster that will make Tiananmen look like the good old days.

I am appalled that our leaders aren't calling for stronger words against China. Even Iran isn't threatening to execute protesters. Where is Obama? Perhaps more importantly, where is John McCain and the Republicans? It is difficult for us to rebuke charges from the Muslim world that we are biased against them when things like this happen. Muslim country brutally suppresses protests - America stands firm in criticizing them and enforcing a trade embargo. Non-Muslim country brutally suppresses protests and threatens to execute dissidents - America does nothing of substance. Perhaps the lesson to be learned for countries like Iran is this - get the bomb as soon as you can because American only picks on weaker opponents. Either that it start making all our plastic toys and poisoned dog food and drywall.

Nothing's being done or said because China owns us.

Are you blind? Didn't you see they are muslim mobs, not protesters? Didn't you see how many civillians they killed on Sunday? Would you tolerate such crimes in your own city? Dumbass
  • Ferdiad · 4 months ago
Right...... So let me get this straight, in your cocktail party circles China is a brutal authoritarien regime in pretty much ever instance, EXCEPT when it applies to muslims, then all the sudden the "muslim mob" is the aggressor and is at fault?
  • Sean · 4 months ago
You suck! You know nothing about the violence in Xinjiang and how brutal the Uighurs were to kill civilians including women and kids. No gov would tolerate such crimes against law. Stop misleading your readers and complaining about others while you Americans are killing thousands in Middle East! Read and learn!
  • Sean · 4 months ago
LOL, just look at how Americans reacted to 911! Stop whining as if you were clean! Stop use double standards!
  • Sean · 4 months ago
Oops, they just blew up the WTC towers to protest! Why were you guys so pissed then? LOL

Educate yourself before you write this stuff. China has done considerably better than most other countries at raising the standard of living of their large population. The situation in Xinjiang is complex and not as black and white as you paint it and further you miss the fact that a large mob went and murdered a lot of people. Incidentally, by most verifiable accounts (including many western witnesses) the police showed remarkable restraint. Would a mob murdering 156 people be okay if that happened in your home town ? Would you be offering the same opinion ? Doubtful.

Sometimes, America is the worst friend any country could have.

Case in point. In recent years, the US has had a golden opportunity to develop closer relations with China, a country she should be close to. The Americans and the Chinese have much in common at this juncture in time, particularly in terms of the Global economy and in terms of hostility to primitive religions, like, say, Islam.

And what does the US do? Permits Uighur and Tibetan dissidents, with whom it has nothing in common, with whom it shares no known interests, to set up shop with NGOs in Washington, DC, and transmit separatist propaganda back into China. These policies only make sense in Cloud Cuckoo Land.

If Americans had any brains, they'd send those Uighur and Tibetan charlatans packing on the first outbound jet. But no. That would be too logical.

With respect to China, 92% of the population is Chinese. The Uighurs and Tibetans are tiny minorities growing smaller. 100 years from now, if someone were to want to do research on them, he would have to go to a museum, a library or (God forbid) wikipedia.

It's too bad what's happening to the Uighurs and Tibetans but, as Karl Marx said somewhere, history has a large and commodious dustbin...

doesn't Texas have the death penalty as well? are you saying that we should stop buying potatos chips from texas?
Brutal mobs who beheaded civilians heartlessly should get death penalty.
  • agayguy · 4 months ago
Chris or anybody who wrote this piece,

Before you do any research and read independent reports about the Uighur mob killing innocent Han Chinese with knife and sticky on the streets by hundreds, you do not have right to judge anybody. Just like straight people would judge you as a child molester, you are behaving equally ridiculously to judge the event happening in China with your pathetic knowledge about the country, the people and the event.

Before you make any comments like this, you should reflect on the history of this county. It was quite easy to forget how the funding fathers of this country help to kill almost all the American Indians.

One advice: you need shut up and read.

A fellow gay gay who think you are ignorant.
  • bs · 4 months ago
    Chris,

Where did you read that they are going to execute protesters?

I don't understand why you are condoning terroists and murderers.
  • agayguy · 4 months ago
Well, even the news is true, executions are not all bad.

But I did not smile even a fart from this Chris when the U. S. executed Saddam.
  • Steve · 4 months ago
You sound wiser...Not all the minorities are good...being a minority doesn't natural justify his/her killing of the non-minority!

    PS: gay also :-)
  • Steve · 4 months ago
Chris, you are misleading your readers with wrong info you received!

Are you saying that you think the Uighur killers and murderers are victims instead of those dead innocent Han Chinese, and should not be punished by law?

The Chinese official only said those mobs who had committed serious crimes in the riot might get death penalty, regardless of their ethnic backgound, not the 'peaceful protestors' (if any)...

It seems no matter what China does, there's always an excuse to blame on it...

Uighurs or muslims are not always the victims!

the majority of Chinese Americans do not have ill wishes towards either China - our ancestors' home land or Chinese people -- our brothers and sisters by blood.

China have Chinese Americans' full support!
China should and will rule these crazy uighurs thugs by "blood and iron".

As a Chinese, I am really proud of the bloody blow Chinese government has dealt to these uighurs thugs.

Chinese leaders should follow the footsteps of Bismarck - China " must collect and keep its strength for the right moment, which has been missed several times already"; China's "frontiers ?. are not conducive to a healthy national life; it is not by means of speeches and majority resolutions that the great issues of the day will be decided-that was the great mistake ?.-but by blood and iron"!

in Just one night - 2000 crazy muslim nuts/uighurs seperatists rioters and 140+ shot dead and 1400+ arrests and 800 casualties - wow! That will surely teach those uighurs mulah nuts and tibetan monks a serious lesson - do not ever mess with CHINESE!

the extraordinary harshness and swiftness of the crack down and the promptness the government handled it and anounced it tells the world loud and clear - the Chinese Nation bears absolutely no mercy towards seperation by any minorities.

You have Chinese Americans' full support!

Tiananmen was a weeks-long, peaceful protest that eventually got crushed by the military. What happened in Urumqi was a bloody rampage by an apparently barbarous ethnic group that resulted in 156 innocents.

Innocent civilians were accosted, and if they were not of the proper ethnic group (Uighur) they were beaten to death right there on the streets. I have absolutely no sympathy for those that committed murder, regardless of their previous grievances. I wish the Chinese government the best of luck in rounding up these criminals and sending them off.

I recommend you take a look at the photos circulating online. Seeing the horror for yourself may get you back in synch with reality, in which such acts of indescriminate violence and mureder are NOT acceptable.
