AMERICAblog: Christian right protests Starbucks logo

Memo to Christian Right: This is what intellectual bankruptcy looks like...
  • canuck55 · 1 year ago
    A. It is not a new logo, but the original logo that has been used at the Pike Place store since just about day 1.
    B. The logo for the Resistance is a capitol "R" with a bar through the top part of the "R" - my God its a penis going into a vagina! How disgusting! Those who live in glass houses...

LOL. Another day, another episode of rampant wingnuttetry from the American Taliban.

    Jesus weeps

Gotta give 'em props for "Slutbucks", though. Hysterical! Morans!
  • lost_nacf_gop · 1 year ago
Sounds like one or more of 'em fell asleep on Mike Judge's movie, "Idiocracy" and woke up thinking it was real. They're right, of course, we are becoming dumber, and this latest threatened "boycott" is part of the proof.

Slutbucks?! I would have gone with Starfucks. That sounds like the prostitution ring in "LA Confidential."
  • BraydenWicker · 1 year ago
Does anyone know a Starbucks in DC that still has Free Iced Coffee on Wednesdays Coupons?
  • Ben Dover · 1 year ago
The "Resistance" would be well advised to not come between me and my morning Vente Breva Carmel Double Latte (no foam).

    It wouldn't be pretty.
  • MarkCentz · 1 year ago
Seattle coffee drinkers had been enjoying freshly-roasted beans from Starbucks for over 15 years when they changed the locally famous logo from the now retro logo to the one almost like the one you're all familiar with. Our little mermaid lost her nipples but retained her tails, and the word was, that with expansion into the midwest pending, they were making themselves acceptable a sensibility unlike our own. They cleaned up the tails not long afterwards as the world fell before them. Looks like they were right.
    A detailed history here:

I bet a trip to Hooters would burn the "Resistance" eyes right out of their sockets.
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
The Resistance, a US-based Christian group, has called for a national boycott of the coffee-selling giant. <--- testing italics

Who in the hell is listening? A handful of religious fruitcakes? Who is the hell cares? National boycott. What a crock. Hopefully the next generation will have less of these insane bottom feeders.
  • bumpkis · 1 year ago
HOOTERS sponsored car washes were always a must do on Saturday mornings....
  • brian · 1 year ago
What do these groups have against Battlestar Galatica? They are trying to find the one "true" god.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
They don't sound like typical Starbucks customers anyway.
  • DeathBySnooSnoo · 1 year ago
The woman in the logo is named Melusine. It comes from a legend about a man who discovers a mysterious woman in a forest and falls in love with her. Once they are married, she warns him never to walk in on her while she is bathing. He does so and discovers that she is a two-tailed mermaid. She's been featured in literature and on coats-of-arms and things. Not like we should expect religious bigots to read anything or know anything.
  • noni · 1 year ago
Will they cave like Dunkin' Donuts?
  • Jim Olson · 1 year ago
You know, it would be wonderful if the Religious Right (TM) would pay attention to stuff that mattered in our society, like feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, housing the homeless; rather than worrying about irrelevant crap that just makes them look like sex-obsessed morons. My Evangelical colleagues just need a visit from the clue fairy before they open their damn mouths.

    Fools.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Bert and Ernie, Tinky Winky, now a mythical mermaid....these yahoos have too much time on their hands. Someone give them them something productive to do.

    Wow!

This isn't your typical Fundie Group.

    http://www.theresistancemanifesto.com/

It's like a Fundie Group on Crack or something.
  • Grandma_Jefferson1 · 1 year ago
Yeah, global famine, economic meltdown, torture, war, people dying by the hundreds of thousands don't rate on these morons' radar. "Boycotting" logos that jeezus doesn't like is what's needed to fix the world. That voice echoing in their empty skulls told them so.
  • mr_ed · 1 year ago
Now, how do you suppose how these nice folks got to know so much about prostitutes?
  • vickif · 1 year ago
I was wondering the same thing.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Honestly, I think the prostitutes will have a MUCH better chance of making to heaven than those judgmental pricks.
  • bluestockton · 1 year ago
How do fundie women have sex--don't they have to part their legs? Then does that make them prostitutes?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Kind of funny, actually.

They seem to hate Bush and have apparently been calling Wingnut shows with their conspiracy theories for awhile.

  • MorgaineSwann · 1 year ago
Wow - he says both Bush and Tom Cruise worship Lucifer. I wonder if the forum has any members. From what I can see, it's one Kool-Aid drinking nutjob trying to sell a book. He's publicity hungry, so he's picking on a big corporation. If I were a Starbucks fan, I'd buy some of their merchandise just to piss him off.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Well, he sells T-shirts too.

    LOL.
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
The Republican religious right's biggest fear is their young girls will become lesbians by staring at the logo.

Can you believe a large number of people listen to the radical religious right's political judgment and vote according to whom they say is "the best candidate?!!?!!?"
  • Tyke · 1 year ago
This sort of sh*t just encourages actual Starbucks customers to drink more of their coffee. They're mostly elite latte drinkers anyway.
  • Antigone · 1 year ago
Yeeeeeeah. That's a woman with her legs spread. I've always said that Christian fundamentalists are the biggest sex obsessed perverts because they see sex everywhere they look and they scream bloody murder about it. I'm betting it's because they haven't gotten laid enough - or else the only position they know is missionary, in the dark, with the lights off. Or it's just because they're all so bloody ugly. I mean, would you want to screw Pat Robertson. Didn't think so. All the people I know who are happily bonking like bunny rabbits - they don't see sex everywhere they look.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
They make Pink Floyd videos too.

(Well, they sort of chop up scenes from the Pink Floyd "The Wall" movie and use them for their own videos)

  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Seriously, though.

You gotta wonder why the BBC would even cover this.

It seems to be a very fringe guy with about 3000 followers nationwide.

    I mean, shit.

If I called a boycott of someone, would they cover that too?
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
OK, BBC, if you're reading this.

I, Bush Bites, am calling for a boycott of Walmart.

    Because they're.....slutty....yeah, that's the ticket.

    Now, run with it !

  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
    Pretty wild, huh?

Though their theories about Bush and Cheney and corporate leaders having black masses sounds strangely probable.
  • debbee · 1 year ago
This bullshit just makes me want to see something proactive organized. While these people put all of this time, energy and money into the absurd ridiculous over the top fictitious outrage over nothing, I'd love to see a counter campaign waged where donations are raised and time, energy and money or time are given to a foodbank or other program that actually benefits someone.
  • Butch1 · 1 year ago
How novel would it be if the christian right actually begun to practice their religion instead of all this sick behavior. Someone had to have a cesspool of a mind to think up this latest scenario.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
What's interesting about this Mark Dice and his site is his apparent link to Alex Jones.

Evidently, he has no problem with linking viewers to "Bikini Babes for 9/11 Truth" but has problems with mythical figures.

I'm wondering how many of these idiots are linked and making money off their conspiracy theories which on the surface can be peddled as anti-govt stuff, but evolve into weird and fabulistic bullshit?
  • Mark217 · 1 year ago
The Resistance is a (tinfoil-hat style) christofascist organization. Their organizational logo reminds me of the "rile-sight" style celtica croce used by European fascists since before WWII (and now worn by Rome's new mayor). The beliefs of this group would be laughable if they weren't such strong advocates of xenophobic violence (rooted in and jusified by their fundamentalist embrace of Dominion theology). I wonder how long it will be before these extremists start calling for the bombing of Starbucks stores.

  • Bostonian_Queer_in_Dallas · 1 year ago
Even if their new logo showed two hot men butt fucking. it would be far less offensive than what their hero Dubbya did these 8 years.
  • Jallenrule · 1 year ago
Mmm... Slutbucks. Just might have to start drinking more coffee if that's what they call it. lol

That would be an awesome name change, much better than Beaner's changing to Bigby's. I suggested that Beaner's change their name to Honkey's just to throw a curve ball back at everyone.
  • scottinsf · 1 year ago
Somebody else already mentioned that the logo on the left was the original logo. It was indeed. Not only that but originally, many years ago, the crazy xtians protested the same logo because it showed part of her breasts. Not making this up.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Can "Slutbucks" be copywritten? Sounds like a great name for a rival chain. Catchier than "Hooters".

ChrisInParis; protect your invention before it's too late...

BB, you must live in some coastal enclave. Wal-mart is "America". That's where we buy everything except meat(it's soylent green, you know). That's where we meet and discuss politics with our neighbors(who are also greeters). Life is great in "flyover country"
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Nah, I live in the Midwest.

But Walmart's not allowed in our city.

Cafepress also sells such virulent anti-Obama stuff that I refuse
    to buy anything from them.

Now here's something really ridiculous (besides the cowboy's last comment). Hillary is supposedly going to be allowed a dignified exit by being appointed head of Health and HS. Dignified? She's the Senator from New York! What a bunch of crap...

BB, this great reply of yours is why I've asked John A to somehow get the replies posted with reference at the tops of the thread. LOL and right on!
