    Does being a full time politician, being on the campaign trail 24/7 and having a never ending thirst for more power completely remove you from reality? Does the Clinton campaign read nothing at all?

    This is no longer desperation. It is bordering on politically suicidal.

    We are waiting for Al Gore and Howard Dean to pull the plug on Hillary's machine. How much more should Obama have to endure at the hands of Bill and Hillary. The only thing I can think of that perfectly fits Bill and Hillary; people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

    Do they honestly think we have forgotten their past history or that we will ever believe them again.

    BTW David Gregory and Race to the W.H. is on. Why, why, why do they keep throwing Joe Scarborough in our faces?

    Again, what is the issue here? Are we now upset that donor issued a letter that they would stop giving someone "DONATIONS" because of their position on an issue? Well, cut my legs off and call me shorty! I have never heard of such a thing.

    The rules for Super Delegates are clear. Pelosi is voicing her OPINION on how they should vote. As such, she runs the risk of pissing people off and having them decide not to DONATE money to her anymore. Doesn't this happen all the time? Honestly Joe, how many times can you be shocked and outraged by everyday occuirrence. I truly expect tomorrow that there will be an alarming headline about the sun setting. :)
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
    Sorry SPatrick but this is NOT an everyday occurence. Sure, they can choose to withhold donations for whatever reason but to write a letter threatening to do so if Pelosi doesn't do what they want is blackmail plain and simple. These people should be told to blow it out their asses. I'm glad to see it backfire on these worthless bastards. Obama raises more money than these people donate anyway so they are not needed. Time to let the DINOsaurs go extint!
  • dula · 1 year ago
    I wonder what favors Hillary has promised to these donors... favors that will no doubt benefit the elite at the expense of the people.

    Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Hillary

    The symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder revolve around a pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and sense of entitlement. Often individuals feel overly important and will exaggerate achievements and will accept, and often demand, praise and admiration despite worthy achievements. They may be overwhelmed with fantasies involving unlimited success, power, love, or beauty and feel that they can only be understood by others who are, like them, superior in some aspect of life.

    There is a sense of entitlement, of being more deserving than others based solely on their superiority. These symptoms, however, are a result of an underlying sense of inferiority and are often seen as overcompensation. Because of this, they are often envious and even angry of others who have more, receive more respect or attention, or otherwise steal away the spotlight.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
    It seems the Wright story only bothers the pundits on TV who keep harping on it. Meanwhile hillary's positive ratings keep dropping and her poll numbers keep going down too. Look at the link I provided a little deeper and notice that she is in danger of costing us California against McCain.
  • Patriot · 1 year ago
    I couldn't stand it any longer and wrote a polite paragraph to the DNC last night questioning the silence from Dean and the rest of the leadership. And, the question is still foremost on my mind;

    Where is Howard Dean and why the total silence? I thought he handled the Michigan & Florida primary situation very well but, why the silence on the slash and burn policy by the Clinto campaign?

    "...role of superdelegates is to exercise independent judgment and make a decision that is best for the party and best for the country."

    Hey, Comrade Klinton! We've had just about enough of "super" anyone picking and choosing for us the Democratic electorate. WE are going to decide the Democratic nominee, not "supers" in a smoke filled room. And those "supers" better get their collective asses in gear and follow us in casting their vote for the next POTUS Barack Obama.

    If they don't, you and they, will have destroyed the Democratic Party and will have a profound negative impact on the future of the USSC and our nation as a whole.

    Hillary, stop the lies and deception. Stop blackmailing the Democratic Party. Stop threatening to steal convention delegates. Just stop it all and step away before you become even more vile and despicable.

  • Savage8862 · 1 year ago
    Because of her supporter's underhanded tactics in this election, I emailed the Clinton campaign (not that she will ever get to read my email) informing them that I no longer support Hillary Clinton for President. The straw that broke the camel's back so to speak was the very threatening letter sent by her supporters to Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

    I cannot support a candidate willing to sacrifice the entire Democratic Party so that she and her husband Bill can move back into the White House. I want Obama to answer the phone at 3 AM.
  • GrantinHouston · 1 year ago
    Luna. The MSM talking heads love to stir the pot. The big deal this afternoon was all about Obama "offending" Italian Americans when Rev. Wright was talking about the attitude of the ANCIENT Romans towards Jesus and the Galileans who were the rebels, becoming insurgents fighting the Roman occupation. Since Rome at the time wasn't "Italy" the reverend did err also calling it by that name. With the horror in Iraq, the economy, the foreclosures, we have the MSM wanting to talk about ANCIENT Romans being called Italians with a nose for garlic?
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
    Hey Grant. I only heard a little bit of today's "flap" so thank you for explaining it. You know, I am becoming convinced that we American's are incapable or reading or hearing things in context. We've become such a soundbite culture that even when going beyond the soundbite, we are only able to hear one small part. The dumbing down of America rears it's head again.
  • CDS2 · 1 year ago
    Obama did not offend Italian Americans. His 20 plus year mentor did. He called them "Garlic Nosed Italians", and derogatory remarks about Jews. Obviously, no one can condemn Obama for what his esteemed preacher said, however, we can condemn Obama for maintining a 20 year relationship with him and his bogotry, and Obams's obvious acceptance of this racists remarks as well as exposing his children to these remarks. Grant, try as you may, there is no spinning this issue.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
    Well CDS2, it seems this story doesn't have legs as hard as you and the MSM talking heads are trying to make it so. That ain't spin, that's the facts!
  • Tizzy · 1 year ago
    Who gives a crap if some stupid republican condemns Bo for the relationship? You would have found some reason to condemn him anyway. This reason just allows you the illusion of being "non-racist", which everyone already knows is laughable. Do you really think that all your false outrage on this issue is going to change the minds of actual thinking people?

    Pretty much makes Obama's point, doesn't it? When you accept big donations from rich cats, they think that they can call the tune. On the other hand when 90% of your donations come from "the people", and the average size of each donation is $110, then you are obligated to the people. Not the rich SOB's. Can we win this election? Yes we can.
  • DaveinMpls · 1 year ago
    Well rules are rules (as the BO people are fond of saying, never mind that real change never comes from rule-followers), and HRC is right on this one. It was wrong of Pelosi to endorse to the rule Obama made up (SDs need to rubberstamp their constituencies, and can't "overthrow" the "will of the people"). "The people" in this flawed primary process will not be giving Obama enough delegates to to be nominated, and according to a recent survey, the will of the people is split 50/50.

    Also, only 22% want HRC to drop out (as opposed to 100% on this blog), the same number who think BO should. 62% "of the people" think both should stay.

    Link to survey results: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/...

    I think it's interesting that the BO fans here who claim to represent the "will of the people" are so hopelessly out of touch with said will.

    Needed disclaimer: No I'm not a "Hillbot," but I do think the BO fanatics need to think more clearly if we are to avoid McCain in the White House (the real objective, folks).
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
    Well DaveinMpls, of course the most ardent supporters of each candidate is going to think the other should drop out however what that poll doesn't indicate is whether or not those answering are aware or not of the fact that hillary's chances of winning only can come from SDs reversing the popular/pledged delegate vote. For those who get all their info from the MSM aren't very likely to realize that since the MSM wants to keep the race going. It's great for ratings!
    You say the goal is to beat McCain. I agree, which is why it is important for us to move past the nomination. Hillary is talking about going to the convention and trying to turn delegates. That is NOT focusing on the real election. I don't think it would be wise to go to hillary and tell her or force her to drop out but someone does need to explain the facts to her and she needs to reach the conclusion that she can't win without losing. After that, she can drop out gracefully.
  • DaveinMpls · 1 year ago
    Hi LunaStick - She may be just trying to get in BO's head (she does that well). I agree it shouldn't go to Aug., but let's let the primaries play out and then poll the SDs in June. It's not over until someone has a solid 2,025 (or whatever number it ends up being). In the end, she will do the right thing, even if it's late for your taste.

    BO fans are illogical about HRC. They think she's an unreasoning monster, yet infinitely calculating. In the end she will make the right calculation. As a Democrat doing whatever, a damaged party is not in her interest.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
    DaveinMpls, the problem is I don't share your optimism about hillary doing the right thing. Have you seen her Fox interview from today. (FOX FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!) She is saying with what seems great determination to take the fight all the way to the convention. Fighting for MI/FL delegates to count, try to change the minds of pledged delegates, whatever it takes. She is the one trying to change the rules in the middle of the game and I see no indication that she will do the right thing.

    Soundboy_jeff

    If everyone had equal access to vote, in other words if we had primaries in each state--yes. But in this case--no. Caucuses are flawed (I'm in a caucus state), and this year we are screwed with no decent resolution for MI/FL (you can't disenfranchise 2 large states and claim to have the will of the people--those voters didn't screw up the process). And then there is the question of some states having open primaries and other closed. I don't think this process is democratic, it's like the will of the people in a fun house mirror. "One wo/man one vote" has no meaning in this process.

    Job 2 after winning the WH in November need to be to fix this mess.

    OlderandWiser. Yes, now Obama's pastor is "anti-Israel" too besides being anti-Roman. Of course Hillary was very much a supporter of the Palestinian cause and even kissed Soha Arafat in Switzerland in 1998. However, that was before she decided to pack her carpetbags and move to New York. With the New York demographic, Hillary, overnight, became "the best friend" of Israel " and promptly threw Palestinians under the bus. She also liked all of that new AIPAC money coming her way which she used to run for U.S. Senate from her BRAND NEW state.

    However, there were still some who were suspicious that she was only pandering for the Jewish vote and worked against her election. Here is their website from that era.

    Dave in Mpls said in part "It was wrong of Pelosi to endorse to the rule Obama made up (SDs need to rubberstamp their constituencies, and can't "overthrow" the "will of the people")."

    Did I miss something somewhere? Obama made up the rule? What rule? Didn't know such a rule existed. I do believe Pelosi has stated the superdelegates should not overturn the will of the voters, now I don't see how that statement endorses either candidate.
  • DaveinMpls · 1 year ago
    aquarius2 -

    it's not a real rule (that was a poor attempt sarcasm), but it is certainly BO dogma.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
    Aquarius2, HA! Missed that point!

    Another thing, someone tried to make the point that the SDs need to exercise independant judgement in choosing the nominee based on who would be the best for democrats. That's fine with me. Let's examine what would be best for the party. Backing and reinforcing the candidate who won most delegates as well as votes is the only way to go. To do otherwise will give the appearance of robbery and that will destroy the party not just this year but for many years to come. So yes, they need to use judgement. Good judgement.

    I am retired and not rich. I signed the MoveOn petition in support of Nancy Pelosi, but because on April 1 I will be making my third $100 to the Obama campaign, I have put other donations on hold until he has the nomination. In my comments to Nancy Pelosi on the petition I gave my word that I will give a similar donation to the DCCC once Obama has the nomination. Yes we can, and these are very exciting developments.

    It's all a pipe dream anyway.

    No way the Superdelegates are going to run to Hillary.

    They know the damage she'll do to candidates downticket, they know the damage the Clintons have always done to the party, and they know the damage supporting her will do to the party's long-term chances of building a coalition for the future.

    ---

    Dave, I will give you that... our election process is FUBAR.

    it needs to be fixed, no matter who wins... it SHOULD be 'the will of the people', by popular vote.

    the SD's were originally designed for that reason, to overthrow the 'will of the people' if the popular vote didn't align with the candidate that the party leaders wanted (read: if the candidate didn't go along with party leader's 'vision' of the direction of the party).

    if you remember, there were riots because of that.

    yes, she's justified to do what she's doing... technically. but ask yourself, it is good for the pary? or the party leaders.

    its a bit shady for my tastes... and that's why I think she should drop out.

    if the shoe were on the other foot, I'd want Obama to do the same.

    in any case, I'll hold my nose and vote for her if she pulls off her coup... but so many people won't, and that ensures a victory for mccain.

    which is, IMHO, what she really wants... she can wait four years to try again. Eight might be too long.

    Be honest now CDS2, was she or was she not already offended by Wright before today's revelation?

    For the past couple weeks, people (clinton and McCain staffers) have been searching all through Wright's past sermons. This is all they have left. It's called scraping the bottom of the barrel. The Wright thing is a dying issue. It will stick with conservatives who weren't going to vote Obama anyway so the damage is nonconsequetial.
  • CDS2 · 1 year ago
    Yes, she was. However, this just added fuel to the fire. I told her about your comment, (incidentally, she's cuddling with my dog in my picture), and she said to tell you that her ancestors were building cities, governments and civilzation when your folks and Obama's folks were still walking on hands and knees. The point is, that Obama's Rev of 20 years has offended Jews, Italians, Whites, and promotes racial violence especially by honoring Farakahan and his like, and people are know by the Company they Keep. You best get back on the Hillary bandwagon, because this issue will be huge during the General Election run up.

    You and your wife need a history lesson. I'm gonna ignore the walking on hands and knees comment it was beyond offensive but I'm gonna ignore it. Tell your wife that her people built it's civilization AFTER the Carthegenians, the Greeks, the Persian, the Egyptians, the Minoans, the Hiitites, the Sumarians, the Asyrians, the Chinese and a few others I can't remember at the moment. Sorry CDS2 but election history shows that a scandal ridden through early in a campaign doesn't have strong effects in a general election. Obama has weathered the worst of it just fine. Hi, CDS

    Here is the latest Pew Research Center polling on Obama and the Rev. Wright issue -- data that were gathered at the height of the firestorm – and, as you can see, the damage has been minimal and has failed to put a dent in Obama's overall approval-rating and support:

    Obama Weathers the Wright Storm, Clinton Faces Credibility Problem

    http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?Re...

    The subtitle is also interesting: “National Discontent Approaches 20-Year High, Bush Approval at 28%” – not good news for McCain.

    Check out the graph on the left to see the polling results which demonstrate the percentages in the Pew sample of people who rated Obama’s handling of the Rev. Wright situation as “Excellent” or “Good” – even 33% of Republicans registered their approval:

    http://people-press.org/

    Among the various pollsters who abound these days, I trust the Pew Research Center most because they are completely neutral and have no political agenda other than to engage in well-conducted research which they publish in the public interest.

    Finally, I think that with the war/occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan heating up and the economy melting down and gasoline spiking towards $4.00 per gallon, the public is not terribly concerned with Rev. Wright's sermons -- something about having more important things to worry about these days.
    :)

    No one objected to the rules because it was assumed by all parties that MI/FL would be seated because someone would have a lopsided margin and the flawed results wouldn't matter. Bad assumption, clearly.

    If you had been reading the Detroit News a week or so ago, you would know that at least in MI it was the BO campaign that didn't sign on. The DNC and HRC were on board. Without BO sign-off, the legislature adjourned.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
    Got a link to the Detroit news story DaveinMpls?
    I'd like to know it what way Obama balked at a MI revote. I for one thought it would be good for him to have one. At least that way he would get some votes and delegates. If hillary and the gang have their way, MI would count as it is and that leaves Obama with nothing.
  • DaveinMpls · 1 year ago
    LunaSitck and onceVM -

    I'm not saying FL and MI should count as is. But if they don't count or count by half or whatever, how can anyone claim that BO is the people's choice? You can't. It's a problem , and not just for HRC. I'll try to find a link - they have last week's stories behind a pay wall.
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
    DaveinMpls, if you look at the popular vote of those two states and add them as they are, Obama still wins the popular vote. The delegate split of Florida doesn't give her the lead in delegates (She does get the lead if she gets the MI delegates and Obama gets none)
    Here's the updated vote totals:
    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/pr...
    So the argument that he isn't legitimate doesn't hold water when the facts show he is ahead no matter how it gets counted.

    Why did everyone sign on to the promise to not allow the delegates in MI to be counted and Hillary was the only one to not withdraw her name?
    Look I dont agree with the fact that Fla and Mi was exempt from having their delegatea seated..but they all agreed..Then when Hillary discovered that she did'nt become queen of the prom desided to change the agreement..
    If it was up to me there would be a single primary day..everyone votes on the same day..Not only would it stop this kind of crap but it would stop the rebublican tricks of injecting themselves into democratic politics as well..

    For those too young to remember what it looks like when the "will of the people" is ignored, here are YouTube snippets of the police riot at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. This went on for days both outside and inside the convention hall. The party was shattered, Nixon won and George McGovern in 1972 won only ONE state, only getting the electoral votes of Massachusetts. In fact, if Gerald Ford hadn't pardoned Nixon and if Ross Perot hadn't siphoned off mostly Republican votes (19%) and ruined George H. W. Bush's chances (Bill Clinton won with 43% of the popular vote!), we would have had 40 years of straight Republican rule in the White House. Barack Obama was uniting the Democratic Party like nobody I have seen since JFK and RFK.

    I fear the Clintons don't care if we have another 40 years being a minority party. If they cannot have it their way, then it's no way.

    LunaStick. A friend of Rev. Wright here in Houston wrote a letter-to-the-editor today in the Houston Chronicle defending the Chicago pastor. Rev. William Lawson is a most respected pastor in Houston, who after working with Martin Luther King, founded the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church on property between the University of Houston, and then the all-black Texas Southern University.

    CDS2. Rev. Wright was talking about the ANCIENT ROMANS looking down their noses at Jesus and his merry band of Galilean insurgents who were focused on driving out the Roman occupiers from ANCIENT Israel. There were NO Italian Americans in 30 A.D.!

    My, going back 2000 years to feel offended???? I would venture you didn't like Barack Obama in the first place. And WHY all of the focus on somebody else's words who BTW is NOT running for any public office?
  • CDS2 · 1 year ago
    Grant, come on, get real and stop the spin. How about the Jew thing? This guy is going to drag Obama down. Do me a favor.... Do you know any Italians? Ask them how they feel about the Rev's remarks.

    Why all the focus? Obama is running for POTUS. People are known by the folks they associate with.

    Hi Sarah.....actually, if the Rev keep spouting his racist remarks, and the press continues to equate Obama with the Rev, you may find yourself withHillary as your nomineee. What do you do if that happens?
    ---

    CDS... funny that the Rev. didn't seem to bother the clintons when they invited him to the White House... also funny that the MSM doesn't seem to be showing the pictures of Wright talking to bill clinton at the function he attended.

    gee... you'd think they would've checked out his sermons before the invite, wouldn't you?

    oh, that's right... nobody was bothering to look into his sermons then, he was just another guest of the clintons.

    Do HRC and her closest advisors have a pre-agreement to kill themselves, if she loses the Nomination? This is feeling very cult-ish and millenialist, at this point. There is clearly something very dire and important at stake here. My guess is Money. As in: money given to Bill's Library on the promise HRC gets to the White House, and that Money can be repaid in favors and policies. This feels like the Titanic.

    Now we know what Hillary will do if she gets into office. She'll threaten anyone who doesn't see it her way.

    Hillary calls for Barack Obama to leave the church which has done so much for the black ghettoes on the South Side of Chicago. A church that gave much help to Obama when he was doing social work there as a community organizer.

    Why not ask Hillary why not leave Bill? After all Hillary once said, "I'm not some Tammy Wynette standing by my man."

    But she did "stand by her man" when she realized he was her meal ticket for moving to New York and becoming an instant U.S. Senator, a meal ticket to try to gain the presidency by hook or crook.

    CDS2 (any relation to the TROLL CDS?), I suspect you have never been a fan of Barack Obama and only trolling here for Hillary and her Republican friend, John McCain.

    CDS2. Once again Hillary was a sympathizer for the oppressed Palestinians UNTIL she unpacked her carpetbags in New York where she realized she had to pander to the Zionists and AIPAC who are so strong there. So she threw the Palestinian cause under the bus and instantly became the "best friend" of Israel.

    Even then, some Jews in New York City were suspicious of her pandering and put up this website in hopes of defeating her.

    For our TROLL CDS2 who is offended that Rev. Jeremiah can find some good in Lewis Farrakhan's work, Bill Clinton, not so along ago, was a supporter of Nation of Islam's Farrakhan and his Million Man March!

    Grant, do you feel that Farrakhan would be a great asset to Obama at the DNC....maybe a speech stating what a great guy Obama is...? How about the Rev? Should he be on the stage and give a speech on his views on the racial atmosphere here in the USA?
  • LunaStick · 1 year ago
    Farrakhan will be no where to be seen within miles of Obama. I'd even wager he will keep a very low profile from here on out. Wright is being properly distanced and it is unlikely we will hear much from him either. Straws CDS2, straws!
  • CDS2 · 1 year ago
    My point exactly ! However, these two guys will be an important part of the run up to the election in November, as the GOP constantly brings their names to the attention of the voters. I venture to say that in October, you will not be able to turn your TV on and not see the face of the Rev.

    The Reverend hasn't offended me and most other Obama supporters. His numbers bear that out!

    I'm sure Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'reilly will try to keep Wright in the headlines (Farrakhan is a dead issue, he said he thought Obama would make a good president and that's it. Obama successfully distanced himself from that. Try again) If the republicans harp on it too much, it will backfire on them. Especially once video of Hagee gets more attention and how McCain SOUGHT his support. Obama didn't seek out Farrakhan's. Go ahead and keep beating the dead horse if you want, that never works so please have McCain do it.

    The Rev. has actually told the truth! I can't figure out how people were offended, if they look at exactly what he said, most of it is true!! check it out, and you will see, that the truth is often ugly and harsh, but true nevertheless. Example, Jesus told the truth, people hated it, and they killed him for it. The real truth, not spin, always stirs up a lot of trouble, people have grandiose views of themselves, but in reality they filthy with sin.

    Do you believe that the US Government is responsible for the airplanes being flown into the Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the field?

    Good grief, I feel sorry for you if you believe that the above is true.
  • sbhdawn · 1 year ago
    No, I don't believe all that the Pastor said was true, he is just a human,
    and makes mistakes, but a lot of what he said was true, which is the fact
    that Jesus did not teach us to kill our enemies, and because we have killed
    so many in all the wars, it would be presumptious for us to just assume that
    God would bless America for these killings.. Remember, he was killed by
    garlic-nosed Italians in public view, for telling the truth in his gospel.
    The Japanese bombings would not have been approved of by Jesus, and he would
    not have blessed America for doing so, maybe he would have dammed America!
    You can't think that it pleased him to see this country's killings in any of
    our wars, and that was what the pastor was preaching about.
    This is why the church and state have to be kept separate, because as a
    worldly nation, it would be almost impossible to completely govern by the
    gospel, we could not ever go to war for example, and bombing Japan was good
    for our country, but was not in line with the gospel.
    This pastor represented the basic teachings of Christ, not the laws of our
    land in his sermons, and actually there was a doc. on tv some years ago,
    where the U.S. government did experiment on it's citizens with certain
    drugs, without their permission, so who knows what all has gone on!?
    Remember, he has had human worldly experiences that have influenced his
    sermons, too. He is human and does make mistakes as we all do.
    The way that Clinton deliberately made up a lie, and told it with such
    sincerety, was shocking! I will never vote for her now. The Clintons have
    acted shamefully, I started out supporting her, but when she became an
    attack dog, I had to change my support. After she told this BIG lie, it was
    the last straw!
    This super-delegate votes are being pursued by the Clintons in order to get
    their vote for her locked in, even if it means resorting to threating Nancy
    Pelosi; which is BLACKMAIL!
    She was worried about disenfranchising the Mi. and Fl. voters, but now it's
    ok by her to disenfranchise ALL the voters! This letter to Pelosi, is the
    same as blackmail to get the nomination! What on earth?? Didn't our soldiers
    fight and die for our democracy and for the freedom to vote? How
    UNPATRIOTIC is Hillary Clinton??. This act would nullify their deaths!!!!!!
    The Clintons are self-serving and have proven they do not care about us or
    our country, only about their own ambitions! She has proven herself.

    No CDS2, Rev. Wright has NOT offended everyone. That is a gross overgeneralization and misjudgement. Many people who have heard only the snippets played over the cable airwaves were offended, and many of them simply becuase they were told they should be. Personally, I don't jump ship and step inline when told to do so by the Talking Heads. I research and look for the truth.

    I've watched the full sermons for each of the clips cable media and Faux news have played, and found that Rev. Wright's comments were not offensive when taken in context. In fact, the one receiving the most play is actually Rev. Wright summarizing what a Ambassador and Foreign Policicy expert Edward Peck had to say. The message Rev. Wright shared in that sermon was that the appropriate reaction 911 was self introspection, to look at and consider our own relationship wiht God. (please remember, he was speaking to a congregation - therefore they all believe in God.)

    The faith footnote, as Rev. Wright called it, where he summarized Edward Peck's statements spoke American involvement and interference in sovereign nations, spoke to the military actions our government has taken in numerous countries, and the fall out from those actions. That message, whether heard from Mr. Peck or Rev. Wright carries a truth that many Americans prefer to pretend does not exist - but it does, it is relevant, and it NEEDS to be addressed. I find myself baffled by the number of American's who fail to realize that the American government both trained and put Saddam Hussein in power in an effort to secure American interests. At the time it was felt that someone else was dangerous to our militaristic and 'democratic' interests. What of Noriega, the Shaw, or any number of the many, many foreign dictators our government has supported, aided and / or trained. Do you not think our government, and by association we the people, have earned the enmity of countries and people the world around? Of course we have. Despise the act, but understand that Bin Laden made it very clear exactly why al-Qaeda attacked the U.S. on 9/11. As a country, and as the citizenry at risk, it is our moral obligation to step back and understand what has occurred historically to make that possible. That in no way undermines the necessity of condemning the terrorist act, but we do have to look at our part in the matter, and our government does hold one. Here's another way of looking at what one refers to offensive - being offended, or strongly irritated is generally a sign that we need to take a look at our own stuff, our own actions b/c the unsettling feelings associated typically indicate an uncomfortability with our own beliefs and actions.

    CDS2. I imagine you and many racists will NEVER vote for Obama. He doesn't need such votes anyway. Obama got 50% of the white vote in Harris County (Houston and suburbs). The younger voters in this nation, who are supporting Obama in great numbers, are less racist than their parents and grandparents. Many of us no longer consider a person's skin color when we vote. Bill and Hillary, Rush Limbaugh, and Fox News don't have to keep reminding us that Obama is black. We all have eyes!

    If you are among the top 2% of Americans who currently receive the lion's share of the Bush tax cuts, then all I can say is, "Congratulations!" -- because you have enjoyed a halcyon-sweet and nectar-laden ride over the past seven years.

    Alas, if you are in fact among that fortunate few at the top, Obama is likely to raise your taxes to Bill Clinton levels -- which, despite all the GOP belly-aching rhetoric, were actually modest increases -- but Hillary has stated that she plans to do the same.

    So, that leaves you with John McCain -- and I must respectfully withhold my congratulations on that sad score.
    :)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    but so will Hillary.
    Hi Sarah....We are middle America, along with my two sons. However, the bush tax cuts saved my wife and I over $1,000 last year, and my Son, with two small children saved almost $2,000. I am sure we had similar savings over the past few years.
    The real problem comes from raising the taxes on Business. Business's are the only folks who create jobs. Take money away from them, and they will create fewer jobs.
  • Sarah B. · 1 year ago
    CDS
    I am happy to inform you that Obama will not raise your taxes or mine -- we are safe -- and he has gone on record on that score. When I have the time I will be happy to look for links to his statements on taxes.
    Obama has also made clear that he does not intend to raise taxes on nine out of ten businesses, because he believes that small, medium-sized, and even large-local businesses are essential for a providing most of the jobs in this country and which contribute most to a robust economy.
    If you are among the top 2% of Americans who have enjoyed massive Bush tax cuts over the past seven years--mostly huge tax cuts on dividends and capital gains rather than earned income--then Obama will raise your taxes back to Clintonian levels which were not all that high for people in that income bracket.
    Also, if you are a giant oil company that has enjoyed the biggest profits in the history of the world over the past seven years--while doing nothing with those windfall profits and tax cuts to explore and find alternative sources of energy as they promised to do in return for such favorable treatment, including even the increasing of refining capacity which they haven't done--then prepare to give up those windfall tax cuts and pay the back the Treasury!
    Obama has promised to lower taxes on the middle class and on small businesses while getting those at the top to pay their fair share as a demonstration of good citizenship. When people earn that much money--upwards of $250,000 per year-- they're not going to go broke returning to Bill Clinton tax levels -- and we had a stonger economy under Clinton than we have had under Bush and the GOPers.
    Obama has also pledged to fix the Alternative Minimum Tax problem that really is hurting the middle-class more than any other taxpayers and threatens to take a larger bite unless we see action from congress and a fiscally-responsible president, and he has advocated raising the cap on Social Security contributions on single individuals earning $90,000 and beyond to fix any shortfall problems we may face in that program in the future.
    I think that Obama might just be the candidate for you!
    :)
    You had better check on what real experience Hillary actually has, it seems she has lied about most of it!! She stood there and as sincere as possible told this made-up story, and had done it on 3 other occassions (showed the other 3 on tv, and it was her, telling the same story). She was not mistaken, no she literally made it all up, surely she would have not taken her daughter to a bullet flying zone, and if she had she would have remembered it, come on, you know she would have, that is something you don't forget!!
