AMERICAblog: Clinton Campaign, Surrogates, DNC April 1992: Screw the remaining states, the race is over

  • slappymagoo · 1 year ago
Do they lie like this in the hopes that no one will find contradictory quotes? Or do they so wholeheartedly believe their own BS that they forget their own flip-flops? Or are they just feeding the base and don't care if their past words come back to haunt them because telling their fans, who will forgive them no matter what, what they want and need to hear right now, is all that matters?

I meant it as a rhetorical question, but really, it HAS to be one of those three: panicky instant lieing, selective amnesia or callous indifference.
  • WindmillChasr · 1 year ago
No, they like John McCain do not understand the internet age. Everything they say or do will have a future consequence. The old way is over, because it will always be digitally recorded somewhere.

When he said during that primary that he didn't boink Jennifer Flowers, he was lying then too.
  • dommyluc · 1 year ago
At the beginning of the primary season, I was telling everyone that there was no way in hell that Hillary wasn't going to be the nominee. The RW had thrown so much shit at her that they had nothing left, and repeating all of their same screeches would just bore the electorate and make the Republicans look like the fools they are. And I also said there was no Dem candidate who could come close. I honestly believed she was a different candidate than Bill, who I was never that crazy about, being a loyal, liberal Democrat since I first voted in Chicago at the age of 18 in 1974 (and believe me, when you are born and raised in Daley's Chicago, you live and breathe politics). I believed she would run a different campaign - away from NAFTA and DOMA and DATA and the other Republican-lite bills that her husband threw at the American electorate. I thought she wouldn't depend obsessively on polling and focus groups before even going to the bathroom, which seemed - at least to me - the status quo of the Clinton White House. I thought she would bring in fresh, young, new people who were sick of the last eight years and could see that this country needed to head in a new direction. But then she staffed her campaign with the same old fogies, these DLC mummies who would like nothing more than to kiss the asses of the Republicans who have done so much damage to this country. I knew she was threw when she couldn't answer the debate question about driver's licenses for illegal immigrants. All she had to say was, "Well, would you rather have them driving autos without a licenses and have no way to track them?" But instead she looked like a deer in the headlights, unable to formulate a response without her aforementioned polling and focus groups - the Clinton Gene exposed. And she wouldn't - couldn't - apologize for her Iraq war vote, which was the first thing she should have done to distance herself from the Republican enablers of GWB. Then Obama started taking over, and soon he won me over and I have never looked back. Clinton has run a lousy and despicable campaign, insulting the very heart and mind of the Democratic Party that I have loved so much. She has lost, and she had better learn to admit it, along with her husband, or she risks losing her entire political career. And if she honestly believes she is in the running for 2012 or 2016, she had better think again. If Obama loses in 2008, Dems are not going to blame him or McCain - they are going to blame Hillary Clinton, and she and Bill will be lucky if they can serve in the New York Sanitation Department collecting trash off the sidewalks.

john, stop it. you're making me laugh too hard.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
John, this is the kind of stuff that the average person would never have access to. I've never seen such liars as the Clintons.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
I did hear Bill Clinton's idiotic comments about his wife being treated disrespectfully. This from the man who "respected" his wife, by having
a sordid affair in the Oval Office, while the wife lived in the WH.
Bill is living in the twilight zone. The only person disrespected has been
Obama, who has had the race card played against him, and who has been
ridiculed and dismissed by Hillary, who showed her adoration for McCain.
I guess desperate Bill, is trying to rally their supporters to vote for her this Saturday. Perhaps it is time Hillary shed a few tears, it worked the last time.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
That was my first thought, Sage24.
On the subject of disrespecting his wife, Ol' Bill knows a thing or two.
    F*n hypocrite, he is.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
The Clintons also have no concept of the "netroots" either, which is why their supporters are mainly older, bitter women and those "hardworking white people" who never get online.

I often wonder if either of them ever turn on a computer...no, I guess they have enough servants around to do it for them.

Yeah, Sage, that's when Bill absolutely turned me off...what lowlifes they both turned out to be.
  • SMatthew · 1 year ago
"OlderAndWiser" you sound like anything but. Go ahead and make stupid sexist and classist comments about the Clinton supporters who do check the net and are going to insure you will pay for your stupid Obama-mongering by having 4 years of McCain. We are older and don't need abortion rights, our salaries are higher than yours so we will take the lower taxes for another 4 years and tradeoff some of the civil liberties that our years of activism helped obtain and keep just to teach you pathetic punks a lesson for your arrogance beyond your value. Oh and we're also too old to fight in the war, so I guess that's another price Generation stupid can pay for their venomous attacks on us. Obama the great uniter sure has showed his skills at dividing America. Anyone with more work experience than an entry level clerk can see through his political game of defaming Hillary and her supporters by accusing her of attacking him at every innocent comment. His campaign was more Chicago business as usual--go look it up. CLINTON OR MCCAIN 2008

Just like Hillary,it's all about you,not your party or your country. Shame on you!!
  • SMatthew · 1 year ago
Yes, my vote is all about me. Shame on yourself for continuing to belittle Clinton supporters. And I will take a breath, right before I vote against Obama by voting for McCain.
  • surya · 1 year ago
    SMatthew,

I am an Obama supporter, and older, but I think that comment by older and wiser was out of line. However I disagree on your comment about divisiveness. Hillary and Bill have done enough with their stupid and calculating remarks to distance people. We went to great lengths to defend them against republicans when all the scandals happened. that was not pleasant. Trust me, my family and I supported and voted for Bill Clinton twice. But Hillary and Bill have run a terrible campaign, lied to us and many of us are quite repulsed by them, Obma has not and does not ahve to defame Hillary. She is pretty good at it all by herself.
We are much older and also have good jobs and look forward to a comfortable retirement and our children are college graduates, just like most of our friends and colleagues who are Obama supporters. So again, older and wiser people do support Obama because he is a phenomenal candidate.

Thank you for stating your opinions in a reasonable manner. I normally don't post in the blogs, but all the hateful things being said about women in this country on these blogs is disgusting and is getting to me. Again, thanks for not partaking in it and replying in a sane manner.

And did Clinton's opponents in 1992 give up? Obviously, after what has been posted on this thread, they should have fought tooth and nail to prevent his nomination. But they didn't and if the posters here really believe the drivel they write about the former president, they should be screaming obscenities at Brown et al. for not continuing the fight.
    Strangely silent....
  • brown92 · 1 year ago
That's pretty funny. I worked for Brown in 92. He toned down the negative tone of his campaign after winning became mathematically impossible, but he didn't exactly go quietly into that good night. Clinton refused him a prime time speaking slot at the convention and Brown's delegates chanted "Let Jerry Speak" until he got it. There was also a very rowdy ABC (anybody but Clinton) contingent at the convention.

There are two major differences between Brown and Hillary here. One is that the media actually did dismiss Brown when his campaign was effectively over. The other is that Brown didn't try to create new criteria for winning when he lost according to the rules.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
I think Jerry Brown has far more ethics than either Clinton, and wouldn't have tried to tear the Democratic Party apart just to satisfy his ego, or his "legacy" as Clinton is trying to do.
  • jaslyn · 1 year ago
Bill Clinton is the master of b.s. He goes on the defensive for poor, weak, just-trying-to-go-about-her business Hillary! They'll do anything to steal the election. Everyone knows it, the elephant's in the room, but the Dem's don't want to alienate her supporter's. No one has tried to get that wretch of a woman out. It's all the same typical Clinton strategy, which consists mainly of lying. But they think we're too stupid to know it. Wake up Hillarymaniacs. You're on a sinking ship.
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
Some psychologist somewhere has started his PhD dissertation and the subject is Hillary/Bill Clinton and the lunacy that has taken over reality. At the same time a Political Science student is writing their Masters Thesis on how to take a winning campaign and run it straight into a mountain and then blame everybody but the people driving the bus. There is not a single day that goes by that the insanity and craven ambition of this couple of loons is not revealed. When this is over and hopefully soon Hillary and Bill will have turned a positive legacy, except for the blowjobs, the pardons to criminals and a few other assorted actions, into a tragedy. It's a shame really, Hillary had never excelled at junior Senator other than a flag burning bill had never championed any special legislation had spent most of her time since she was elected in criss crossing the country to raise money for HER presidency and totters along like my great aunt Jean. We had a barbecue yesterday, Jean had a couple of Manhattans too many and was spouting off about how Hillary was being picked on because she was a women, men showed her no respect until i finally added "you are probably right, but she and she alone is responsible for running a sure thing into a a can't win".
  • dula · 1 year ago
Hillary is a Vulture perched along the perilous campaign trail waiting for her victim to either make an unmanageable mistake or receive a bullet in the head in order for her to sustain herself. She should alight somewhere else because she's not going to find a carcass in Barack Obama.

Ok this race has got to end and it has become obvious that Clinton is not going to get out until she is Happy. It is almost like Obama the little brother has to make his big sister Clinton happy yet still seem like the good guy. Here is the my thought on the first step to making this happen. We have to seat FL and MI here is how we do that in a semi fair way and this should make Clinton happy and if it doesn't she can go to hell. We use the current election results but in FL Obama gets his delegates and Edward's. Edwards has endorsed Obama anyone and should not have a problem with this. In MI Obama gets the number of delegates associated with uncommitted. This gives Clinton a 15% win in MI. Now we do have to punish both the states for moving there elections up even if in FL it was the GOP ran legislative that decide this we do this by only sitting 50% of there delegates. This is the best solution I can come up with. Clinton can't be mad with getting a 15% victory in a state were the other Candates names were not on the ballot and Florida is almost split even.

To any woman out there who is considering voting for McSame. As a gay man I have voted my entire life now for well over 20 of my 40 years for two things. One for gay rights, two for the right for women to make their own choices regarding terminating a pregnancy. Should all of you decide enmasse to vote for McCain as a way to punish the democratic party and the winner of this primary then all I can say is that you will have forever lost my vote on your issue. Go ahead and hold your nose, vote however you want, just remember that you will loose a great deal of supporters to your cause along the way. When in doubt in the voting booth I have always voted for the woman versus the man. It is time for us as a party to unite and support Barack Obama. If you cannot in all good consience join us then know that when McCain overturns Roe v. Wade I will never work for you cause again as you have cut your nose off to spite your face.

Can't you Obama friutcakes wait two more weeks? You should not try to blacken Obama's eventual victory........oops, I said blacken...OMG I must be a racist, like the Clintons and Geraldine Ferraro. Am I even allowed to use the word "black" anymore? I've never met some many pussies in my life as the Obama, they get OUTRAGED so easily. Yea, everyone knew Hillary meant to say this weekend that she wanted Obama dead! You epople spin as much as FOX News!

At least Obama's handlers know that a quick apology is the best route when you make a major gaffe:

  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Ah well, Auschwitz or Buchenwald. I could understand the mistake: They were both large-scale NAZI Concentration Camps liberated by the Allies.

Hillary would have said her Father liberated Auschwitz single-handedly, when she really meant he once visited a German chocolate shop on the Jewish side of Park Ridge.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
It was hardly a "major" gaffe.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
I think it was major, but nothing horrendous like "sniper fire". Not a "deal killer" like some of Hillary's BS.
