AMERICAblog: Clinton campaign: Tuesday night will be the beginning of "the next phase of the campaign"

  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Somebody needs to get to her Super Ds.

They have to start switching over to Obama, even more than they were.

That would probably cause her to hang it up.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
I think that's what's going to happen next. If he reaches 2,118 and she doesn't drop out, then every superdelegate supporting her is part of the problem.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I find it stunning that the media hasn't come down harder on the Clinton's use of their own "facts" about this election. Be it the so called "popular vote" myth they cite, the horrors that await for the world IF Obama is elected or the theory that everything that they want, they should get; all of this is pure egomaniacal sophistry!
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
Surprise: Israel may strike Iran in October. Will chaos and $200/barrel for oil deliver election to McCain. The neocons think so.....

Three things are for certain: 1) the Neos, both in the US and Israel, will not go quietly and 2) the Bush population control measures were not put into effect for nuthin' and 3) those FEMA camps are rehabed and waiting.
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
I think FEMA already has my name and yours on its list for the detention camps. :-)
  • mirth · 1 year ago
Well fine. Free food and lodging. With no other responsibilites, we can have some fun. You'll be able to find me by the noise, because I'll be spitting and kicking and screaming "Get your filthy f*n traitorous hands OFF me!"
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
Bill said today that tonight may be the last time he campaigns...what does he know?

Nigel, over at CSPAN, AIPAC is shilling hard for McBush.

Ken Thompson is kicked out of Wachovia Bank as CEO; will B of A bid for another loser like Countryside? And, mfg down for the fifth straight month. Obama is going to inherit a really shitty economy.
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
It's so ironic, AIPAC, Israel's guardian, gave McCain a standing ovation, even after the real Hagee was exposed. Wars are never fought over religion; wars are fought for money and power. AIPAC wants more of both, and though McCain AIPAC will get whatever it wants. That's why the neocon press is shilling for McBush.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
wait, I just peed in my pants...
I can see the HUGE amounts of coverage her campaign will get from the delusional fans at hillaryis44 and from her pals at FauxNoise, but I can't wait to see the deservedly hilarious reporting of this charade by the rest of the media. Hillary is going to be the comic relief of the 2008 presidential campaign. I guess she finally got her wish to be treated as an equal, for now she is an equal to that other clown, Lyndon LaRouche. And can her "supporters" answer this question: how can she run against McCain when she has done NOTHING but support and praise him during her entire campaign. Yeah, I can see McSame's TV ads already: Support John McCain - Hillary Does! She really boxed herself in on that one. As a matter of fact, can anyone remember when she has said ANYTHING against the Rethugs during the campaign to win this nomination - you know, the party she will have to run against in November?
Hillary is increasingly irrelevant. The party has had enough of her and will kneecap her before she does any more damage. She is pissing off too many Supers, even her own, and they will turn against her. I doubt very much if she can even win her Senate seat in 2012, let alone a presidential run in that year. Try winning NY without the help of the blacks or left-leaning Dems. Also, does anyone honestly think Schumer is going to risk his seat campaigning for someone like her, with the trouble he faces because of his recent votes on Mukasey and the like? She is gone, like the guest who stays at the party after the last cup of coffee has been served as a hint to tell all to go home.
BTW, it is not only Hillary's delusion and desperation that is feeding this Bette Davis-like final act; it is the members of her campaign. Do you think ANYONE will EVER hire the likes of Lanny Davis, MacCauliffe, Mark Penn, Margie Williams and the rest of these incompetent bozos to work in an election campaign or to serve in their administration, especially an Obama administration?
Oh, and one more thing: fuck you, Hillary! And that insult is gender neutral, because I don't despise you are a woman, I despise you as a human being.
  • hopelesspedant · 1 year ago
John, you're great, but you need to take a break. You are way to smart to post what you just did.

Conventional wisdom - which may not be right - is increasing by the minute that she will do the right thing by Wednesday.

Take a break for 48 hours, OK?
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I hate to be the one who disarms you of your confidence with Senator Clinton, but I do NOT believe that she will do what is best for the Voters, the Party or the Nation. Her actions have belied anything she and her minions have ever claimed to do what is right.

I have hoped all too often that the campaign would act for the greater good, but their continued efforts have shown their capability for saying what is merely politically expedient.

My hopes for a good ending with the Clinton's and this election have been proven a waste, but we can still all hope that something or someone forces Clinton to rise above her own desires.
  • hopelesspedant · 1 year ago
As I said, wait 48 hours, then if she doesn't, full speed ahead.

All signs are that she will back off, probably endorse, leave with grace - even if the reasons are mainly enlightened self-interest.

The reports of this are all over the place, on cable, lots of credible sourcing.

She is running in two primaries tomorrow - of COURSE there are going to be denials and signs of not conceding. That's politics 101.

    We've won. Let's not fret.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
So you're saying John should not cite the two credible sources of this post?
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
That's so cute. I love when people don't have facts so they resort to the "calm down" defense. So rather than play that game, I'd rather have a factually-based discussion with you. What conventional wisdom are you citing? I'd like names and links. Otherwise, you're just being a Hillary troll.
  • hopelesspedant · 1 year ago
John, that hurts, but proves my point.
I am a Obama supporter, and you can check out my post history.
Check out Kos on their main page - quoting extensively from Tom Edsall and Ben Smith.
I've been watching Hardball - the first half hour was devoted to how she was going to leave the race; same thing with Wolf Blitzer last hour on CNN. Not sure what you have access to, but it is absolutely the CW today.

And an obvious question - if I am supposedly a Hillary troll, why would I be suggesting she is going to leave the race? That makes my sense.

I've been a devoted reader of yours since 2004, have contributed to you, I forgive you this temporary lapse. Keep up your (mainly) good work.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
Fine, but your comment wasn't particularly nice either. It's generally not something friendly people do, telling someone to take a break because they're getting too excited. That's kind of a mean way to respond to someone's argument.
  • hopelesspedant · 1 year ago
I take your point, and didn't mean it too sound that harsh.

I just don't thing when signs (for me) are so clearly pointing in the opposite direction of what you wrote that influential and credible blogs like yours are helping Obama by heating things up. Things look like they are going fine; I'm frankly surprised (by a day or so) that these indications are coming up so strongly today.

I have lost a lot of respect for Clinton (she lost me as a possible supporter when she voted by Kyl/Lieberman last fall), but I do at least respect her sense of self-preservation, and that absolutely points to her surprising a lot of people by how I think she is going to act.
  • blackwolf · 1 year ago
I'll believe it when I see it. Can you actually believe Hillary will do what's right? Has she done what's right so far?
  • dommyluc · 1 year ago
Sorry - meant to say "I don't despise you BECAUSE are a woman, I despise you as a human being.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
The only thing that can stop this is if the damn Super Delegates get off their collective asses and declare this week. I mean really, what the hell does "..... next phase of the campaign" mean? Hillary Clinton, who once would have gotten my vote if she were the nominee, has gone beyond the norms of rational. This crap about her saying she is the stronger candidate is pure BS, this woman WANTS the presidency at all costs. At this point, there is nothing, and I mean nothing, about her campaign that is remotely normal.
  • hawkseye · 1 year ago
The next phase of the campaign is stealing delegates and negotiating. I don't think she'll have much luck.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
    Polly-tics

Hello. I guess that will be -50 points. LOL LOL
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Aquarius,
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Clinton wants what she wants and that is all there is to it. She (and now her husband) reminds me of a baby when they make in their pants and then throw the crap at you!
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
You know it is a shame, really. I have lost any respect or admiration I had for the Clintons.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
    Polly-tics

Hello. I guess that will be -50 points. LOL LOL
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Aquarius,

LOLOL, yeah and descending is my guess. Hey , I don't know if you were watching, but this past weekend the Hillary "supporters" were out in droves and scalping everyone of points.

Shesssh, is this what it has gotten to in our political life? Wasting your life by searching for "bad" things that some anonymous poster might have said about your candidate of choice?
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Yeah, it has been an ongoing "tag" event, especially if the two of us are on the same page. First I was very annoyed and just said the hell with it but now I say who cares? Regular posters know who is who on the blog.
  • LeslieB · 1 year ago
Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! Please let the nightmare end.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I agree, what a nightmare. Are you coming to Denver for the convention?
  • LeslieB · 1 year ago
    Hi Aquarius2,
I'd love to, but doubt it would be possible. Are you going?
  • Hardy_Haberman · 1 year ago
She is releasing her advance team. That sounds like whatever "phase" of her campaign is coming will not need people preparing the way for her appearances. That sounds a lot like she is going to step down.

I agree she is a complete narcissist, otherwise she would have done this earlier. Instead she has acted like a spoiled schoolgirl, complaining that the rules need to be changed so she can win. Do I hear someone stamping her feet?
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
Actually, they're now denying that about the advance team. They're claiming that the advance team is paid for each day "on" and that they simply told them to take tomorrow "off" so they wouldn't have to pay them.
  • Hardy_Haberman · 1 year ago
Then she is power-hungry and really doesn't care a flip about the Democratic Party or the US for that matter.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    B I N G O !
    .
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    Hello LeslieB!

Yes, it is feeling more like a nightmare these days than the inspirational dream on which it began.
  • LeslieB · 1 year ago
    Hi Polly_Tics!
You know Clinton could continue her campaign even if the supers all go for Obama. She could argue that committing to a candidate and voting for the candidate at the convention are two different things. That until the supers vote at the convention we don't have a nominee.

If she continues her campaign...I don't know, we should start screaming and yelling at her campaign, the DNC, Reid, Pelosi and anyone else within hearing distance.
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
I just saw one of the superdelegates on tv (sorry, didn't catch his name) saying that he's just waiting until tomorrow night after Montana and SD vote to declare. I really think it's almost over, but I'll admit I'm an optimist!
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
It won't be over until Jan 9th when Obama is sworn in. Even then I have visions of Clinton knocking him down and grabbing the bible while saying " I am the better candidate, you millions of people were wrong"
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
LOL. I laugh and I cry because I fear you're right...
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago

Heck, I care as I don't particularly like having some nasty dolt messing around with people that I respect.

I can understand docking points for posts that are nasty, hateful or just plain gross, but all of this other stuff is infantile hackery and I don't like it one iota.
  • LeslieB · 1 year ago
It's stupid and childish. But at least it keeps them off the streets so they're not so much a danger to others.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago
Well I just gave you a point if that helps :-) Honestly, if it bugs people, then keep giving up points to the people you know and like.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Thank you John, heck I just gave you one too.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Speaking of "paying them", if Hillary suspends her race, who will pay the bills? I hope not the Obama campaign because so far the woman has made a mockery of the election process with all her changing the goals/rules
  • Indigo · 1 year ago
    "Fascinating," said Mr. Spock.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
    Back to work, CYA later
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    LeslieB 3 minutes ago
    --------------------------------------------------------

I still believe that she has NO intention of ending her campaign. She MAY suspend it, but in so doing that would also mean that she will NOT campaign for Obama, meaning that all of the hate and loathing going on now, will merely continue until the convention.
  • LeslieB · 1 year ago
Yeah, if she continues to campaign or merely "suspends" her campaign, that's what she'll probably do. See my comment lower down in reply to yours about the argument she might use to justify it.

    Bye Aquarius!
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    See ya Aquarius! Be well
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
You may be right about her not campaigning for Obama, but I don't know if that's a bad thing. She's really turned alot of people off, so has Bill, and it might be better if they slink off somewhere and lick their wounds. I used to really admire them, this has been so painful to watch.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
    LeslieB,
    ---------------------------------------
Yes, I just read your previous post and agree with you. It's been evident for some time now that this woman does not value the voters, the party or the country. It is merely all about them and them alone.

What a sad way to end a Presidency (for Bill) and political run (Hillary). I wonder if all of this will impact both of the Clinton's AFTER this race. I am hoping that people have LOOOOONG memories!
  • kosisrove · 1 year ago
What a backward reflection of the reality, and what do You Mean By "THIS WOMAN"
MORE PEOPLE VOTED FOR THAT WOMAN THAN THAT MAN. He HAS Zero forign policy experience at a time of world crisis. Your disrespect for Hillary BECUSE SHE IS A FIGHTER is Shamefull. He dosn't fight He has You Geniouses To do that HERE is a fact
Obama Won virtually all the States We WILL lose in November.
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
I disrespect Hillary Clinton ("this woman") because she is a selfish, egomanianical politician who has proven herself to care about her own power and nothing more.

Clinton's numerous ploy's, lies and "misstatements" have revealed her to be one of the single most CRAVEN and deceitful politicians I have ever witnessed in my 35 years of voting.
  • takeasiesta · 1 year ago
Honestly I think the Vanity Fair article about Bill Clinton's newest affair will end her campaign. America is not going to let the Clintons back into the White House.
  • LeslieB · 1 year ago
Vanity Fair's article may have new facts, but it paints the same ole same ole picture of Bill's sexual peccadillos. Yawn. The Clinton baggage is well-known. Bill's sex problems are the least of them too.

Oh, and it's an alleged affair.
  • kosisrove · 1 year ago

Huffingtonpost's headlines make it sound as if she'll concede or suspend tomorrow night in NYC. Carpetbagger won't try to guess, but just posts about the conflicting reports.

I don't know what to think. Guess we'll have to wait til Tuesday to find out what she does. Keeping my fingers crossed she concedes and starts campaigning for Obama, works to re-unite the party and go after McCain.
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
If John is correct and Hillary "suspends" her campaign then it will be very clear. She wants to destroy Obama's chances to set herself up for 2012. She'll convince all her loyal followers to "hang loose" this thing ain't over with yet. What I wonder Leslie is when in the heck is this country going to wake up and get rid of these psychopaths? Its truly amazing - I once though there were intelligent people in this country - but I know now that thought was a delusion as well. Those who are morally and professional obligated to speak up won't - because we've become a "I've got mine, you get yours" society. Really a shame isn't it?
  • Ben Dover · 1 year ago
Good grief! If Hillary doesn't finally step aside tomorrow night, they will have to roll her into the convention in a straight jacket, strapped to a cargo dolly, wearing a hockey mask kinda like Hannable Lector. Just for the delegates safety!

    Obama '08!
  • kosisrove · 1 year ago
Than Why are Obamas people acting like the nutjobs. Gee Why would a Democrat fight to win an election what a forign concept. They have manipulated you all to do their dirty work for them, they have told proven lies to you all, they are appealing to the simple minded unintelligent people that support her, because these people are easily fooled!!

They have been seeking violence and still are. They should be stopped for the good of the country, but I guess they are still bribing Super delegates at this point.
Well, you can see the mentality of the average Hillary supporter, not good or intelligent eather. This type of person is easily manipulated, and boy did they get manipulated by the Clintons, and they don't even know it; they were just used!!

  • lov446 · 1 year ago
What experience does Clinton have that Barack doesn't? She was proven to have lied about all of it!! Do you want a proven lier for a President again?? I was for her, before she turned me against her, yes her and Bill turned me away from them with the shameful way they have attacked Barack, who has tried to ignore her attacks, and just keep on campaigning. He could have made so many great adds showing her lies and deceits, but chose to be decent to her instead!! Give me a break, if you have any intelligence you can see them, the Clintons for what they are. They don't care about you, just about what they want! You need to open your eyes to the truth! Remember it was the Clintons and Hillary who supported NAFTA, and there is video tape they showed on tv, where Hillary said how she supported it too, now she lies about that too, come on, open your eyes!

  • lov446 · 1 year ago
I am quite sure that one of the purposes that the Clintons have in mind in keeping this campaign going, is to keep her followers stirred up into a crazed frenzy hoping that causing enough trouble will help her get elected after-all, and perhaps even to the point of getting some crazy supporter even to the point of taking action in getting rid of Obama in some way! Don't tell me they would mind if something unfortunate were to happen to their opponent? They are the very essence of evil!!
  • Polly_Tics · 1 year ago
Whereas I think most people are worried about these issues, I think that speaking about them like this, only makes matters worse.
  • lov446 · 1 year ago
The Clintons have proven themselves to be selfish and self-serving. Barack has just tried his best to be honest and treat her decently. I was for her in the beginning of this campaign, and it was her and Bill that caused me to stop my support for them! I use to just adore both of them, but boy have they shown their true colors!! They disappointed me very much, as I thought they were really caring decent people, not I know that is not true, and they are the ones that proved it to me.
  • ComradeRutherford · 1 year ago
I don't want Senator Clinton to be President or Vice President. Her record shows she's a moderate Republican, and her campaign tactics are pure evil, copying the Rove playbook page for page.

And I don't want Senator Obama either, 'cause he's also a moderate Republican.

But since the media hounded out all the so-called Democrats, and we are stuck with choosing between shades of right-wingers, I can say that I certainly don't want Senator McCain!

I therefore reluctantly concede that Senator Clinton would make a decent Secretary of State in President Obama's cabinet, but she'd be better off replacing Reid as Senate Majority leader.

As to MI and FL, only a Republican (read: 4$$hole) would throw the 3/5th of a vote crap around. Actual Democrats took their names off the ballot in MI, following the rules like good Democrats do. Clinton did the Republican thing, kept her name on, just to rat-f^*k everyone. If Clinton had followed the rules, like the Democrat she purports to be instead of flaunting the rules like the Republican that she is, then the nation would have been better off.

So don't blame the Democrats for this debacle, blame the Republicans that set trap up, and don't vote for Republicans like Obama and Clinton! Vote for actual Democrats that actually vote for the values of the Democratic Party, like Kucinich and McKinney.

See, the Democratic Party followers have gotten to brainwashed by the GOP's media propaganda since Acting President Reagan was installed in 1980, that we abandon actual Democrats and are manipulated into voting for Republicans that call themselves Democrats. Democratic voters even call actual Democrats 'whackjobs'...
  • venisson · 1 year ago
Actually, we should really face the facts: What qualifications does Obama have to apply for the most powerful job in the world? None ! Couple that with his friends and associates, and with the 'bigot' vote in November, and he doesn't stand a chance to win. McCain is a sure winner if Obama is the nominee.
  • John Aravosis · 1 year ago

This is so amazing. NEVER in my years of helping out with Presidential elections have I seen someone so SELFISH and egotistical to continue on without regard to what it is doing to the party.

Has that have no shame. Obviously not with her reckless comments and more.

    "shame on you Hillary!

And since every other candidate in the past who was in a similar position to Hillary ALSO took it all the way to the convention, there's no reason to expect Hillary to do otherwise.

On the one hand, people in this blog call her a selfish, self-centered, "in it only for me" politician, while on the other hand there is this expectation for her to become the least selfish second place candidate in history.

    Nice logic, there.

I hope she does take it all the way to the convention, and I hope she convinces enough superdelegates to swing to her side, because I am utterly convinced Obama will lose, especially given his weak performances in these last few weeks of primaries -- even after the media had prematurely announced him "the winner", Clinton will have won the majority of the past fifteen contests. Even the most ardent Obama fan should take a moment to reflect on the electoral weakness that implies.

As for caring "what it does to the party", I'm more concerned with what the party has done to itself, and I believe Clinton-bashers have done as much, if not more, harm to "the party" than just about anyone else.

Words cannot express my disappointment, disillusionment, and disgust with my supposed "fellow progressives" over the last few months, this blog included. The lack of self-reflection and the beyond-the-pale comments about Clinton are a huge turnoff, perhaps to the Democratic party altogether.

    It's just not right.

Here's what is disturbing to me:

It was reported that last evening Obama phoned Hillary and they had a brief but pleasant conversation.

If she ends up with ANY influence in the Obama campaign or if we learn that she will serve in any capacity in his administration, then my enthusiasm for Barack will be very dampened.

I would not vote for a Obama/Clinton ticket.

He needs to refuse to pay off her debts as well. Actions must have consequences, otherwise, Obama will prove that he is part of the problem establishment crowd that Clinton and McCain co-chair.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
I also agree he should not pay even one cent of her debts.

If Obama offers concessions of importance to her, then he is not the change I am looking for and now believe he offers.

He offerd dirt. They HANDED Him Deligates He did not win Get your facts somewhere other than Your spincter.

It seems clear that Hillary's most ardent supporters aren't exactly civil, much less knowledgeable of hard facts on the issue.

Well, these posts do show a common theme; poorly written, nasty retorts specializing in the creation of a new reality.

To Mirth: I couldn't agree with you more. I will not vote for any kind of ticket where this evil person is on it! I also think Obama should realize that he is not going to be able to play nice with her, it will not work with her or her crazed followers. They want blood, and are unreasonable! He will have to follow the facts in holding her down, kindness will not work!! Taking the high road as Kerry did, proves it does not work. You have to be tough with the facts. They aren't human enough to be impressed with any good that Obama does, he might as well stop trying!

I cannot stand Hillary Clinton nor do I want her on a ticket with Obama, BUT that ticket would be far better than another Bush (John McCain) term.

I think we need to remember Roe V Wade, the undoing of the Justice Dept, FISA, The Supreme Court, Torture "procedures", the Patriot Act,... The list is so long and another Republican could just about cripple this nation.
  • gumbygirl · 1 year ago
I can't see it happening, but if it does I'm voting for them, otherwise we get McCain. It's not worth sacrificing more kids to make a point that you don't like Hilary.
  • mirth · 1 year ago
    Oh please.

My non-Hillary vote has very little to do with whether I "like" her and everything to do with what I think is right or wrong for this country.

At the top of the "wrong" list is her vote to label Iran's military a terrorist organization, which of course is to "justify" our attack of Iran and thus to continue and broaden our murderous dominance of the ME.

Hillary (and Kyl and Lieberman and all the traitorous NEOS, including the ones in the Dem party) should be ousted from government rather than make more inroads into it and certainly not to share in Executive decisions regarding foreign (aka Corporatist) policy.

No, under no circumstances will Hillary Clinton ever have my vote.

LeslieB, you are "Miss Rosy Scenario"...

    Busboy,
What do you think the Clinton's will do this week? Fold the tent, continue by suspend or still claim that her campaign is active and winning?
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Polly, I have no idea. You don't first or second guess a woman who drinks straight shots...

Ben Dover, great way to paint a "word" picture. I can visualize that happening.

Actually, Red dwarf; all of these candidates are starting to make Bush look like a statesman...
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
Busboy - If it were anyone else but Bush I might agree. I have come to loath Hillary - but with Bush - the closest thing I can think of that comes to mind is that he reminds me of some mafia type, or better, a Nazi - who can go to sleep every night knowing that hundreds of thousands of innocent women and children died because of his and his friends greed and lust for power.

If the human race does not discover what truth is, it'll get pretty bleak pretty fast. The younger generation may face catastrophe like the world has never seen - hopefully that doesn't happen - but so long as we have ignorant, selfish, megalomaniacs in the seat of power (supported by facist corporations) its all downhill.
