AMERICAblog: "Clinton has hopelessly alienated the most loyal base of the Democratic Party: black folks"

Donna Brazile on CNN said that Obama does not need working class whites nor hispanics. And that they could win the elction without them. I want to see that.
I will not vote for Obama under any circumstances. According to Brazile, Obama does not need my vote. Acording to her, Obama created a new coalition excluding working class voters, asians, hispanics and any other group not supporting him.

Donna didn't quite say that, and it would be silly for you to not vote for something an Obama supporter stated. I love how he has to be responsible for all of his surrogates and supporters on the internet or you'll take your ball home and help ruin the country by voting for John McCain. It's quite immature.

Since Senator Clinton has been in this race she has furnished the Republicans with a ton of talking points. Now she has furnished them with their main level of attack in the fall--white vs black. Do not think for one moment that the Republicans will not leap on this bandwagaon, remember they are the masters of fear mongering.

This is why I speculated that Hillary may be thinking about an independent run.
There is no way to retrieve the blacks and liberals after what she has done; and she sure does not seem ready to quit.
"This kind of comment is less a description than an agitator, it's meant to give white voters the impression that they would be "disenfranchised" by an Obama win."

Rules and numbers seem not to apply to the Clintons. They make up their own rules [spin] and ignore the numbers. Especially when they're losing. They are detestable in their unAmerican behavior. For too long we have suffered their nonsense. I say never again will a Bush or a Clinton take the White House. She is so extreme, I question her ability and worth in the Senate. Maybe the Senate needs to impeach her.

If Hillary has a broader coalition then why isn't she winning. Hillary cannot even accept the fact that hard working white Americans are voting for Obama. Hillary is a racist, it is the same way that Bill said that he can't be racist because his office is in Harlem.
Note to Hillary hard working white Americans voted for Richardson too. Someone needs to ask her if there are hard working black Americans, I would think that hard working Americans refers to all Americans but I guess in racist world, only white heterosexuals are hard working Americans.

Who knew that African-Americans (almost all of them, but only 13% of the total population), a couple of million latte-drinking over-educated whites (presumably blacks only work at Starbucks), and a couple of million college kids, the ones who don't drink lattes, could collectively kick HRC's ass in terms of: money raised; the popular vote; the delegate count; and number of states won! I wish Terry McAwful could explain this apparent mathematical discrepancy to us and the fact that in HRC's world (created for her by Mark Penn) no one can ever be in more than one category or group...

and so what about all the hard working (what does hard-working mean anyways) white americans without college degrees that are for obama??? i still haven't heard anyone explain to me, why a hard-working white female without a college degree can't be an obama supporter!

Okay, these are the traditional bases of the Democratic Party: African-Americans, progressives, people with advanced degrees, and UNIONS. THAT is where the "working-class" (often white) vote comes in, from the UNIONS.
But Clinton is trying to ignore that fact and make it a class/race issue. After all, she can't say "I'm winning the union vote," because it isn't true. Obama has more union endorsements and union support than she does.
In short, she doesn't have the support ANY Democratic base in significant numbers. Instead, she's trying to "make up" a new "base," and she isn't really being very clear on who exactly is in it. Are these people we can count on to vote for her over McCain, anyway? It certainly seems as if she's trying to appeal to the exact same demographic that he is.
The DLC policies rear their ugly head again.

This is a fantastic post. It speaks exactly to what is going on. Clinton is going to kill Obama using race. "He cannot win in the General Election (becuase he is black, and only blacks support him). That is her theme. Listen to her and her surrogates... they argue that she has a "better coalition" and "only chance to win the swing states" . It is really disturbing the way in which they belittle those that have not voted for her in this primary. The video of Bengalla and Donna Brazil... shows just how nasty they plan to get with this.. which will hurt Obama's chances to beat McCain.. and they damn well know that!
I chat in AOL.... "From The Left"... some of what people from the "Clinton demographic" have been posting in these rooms... people I have chatted with for over a decade.. has been so divisive I no longer will associate with them. These are long time "Democrats" and they are making blatantly racial and racist statments, all because Hillary has sent the message that it is ok to do so. They have made this about a black man, and a white woman... and it is disgusting.
Think the Clintons will stump hard for Obama and push fundraising to get as many Democrats as possible into office this year?? The argument right now should be... with our coalition, McCain cannot beat us! Hillary seems unable to support a bridge in our divide (that she created). The Clintons could very easily change their message, and make us unstoppable in the fall... but will they?

Clinton's years of racial pandering and exploitation are over. Her true color has been revealed in her racist argument that her support from white male racists makes her more electable, which she has no problem with. By basing her argument of electability on her support from white male racists, she is inherently arguing that the support of white racists is acceptable and a desirable criterion of electability, knowing full well that she'll probably lose the election anyway. Metaphorically speaking, she's like a militant vegetarian who railed against those who ate meat because eating meat was morally offensive to her, and suddenly found that she was more popular among meat eaters than vegetarians. Rather than drop out of the election than accept the support of immoral meat eaters, she chose to ignore their immorality because their support gave her an argument to stay in a race she more or less knew she would inevitably lose. Nothing that benefits her could possibly be a bad thing no matter how morally reprehensible it was.

How would Hillary explain my Republican sister who voted twice for Bush, lives in Arizona, and is now voting for Obama?
Or me-white Independent over 50 voting for Obama?
Both my sister and I are hard working taxpayers.
And to whocares1: What are your REAL reasons for not voting for Obama under any circumstances? Are you a Democrat? Do you agree with John McCain on any issue? Sorry, but with Bill Richardson and other leading hispanics going for Obama, plus the majority of Native Americans (I live in the SW) supporting Obama, this whole premise of yours is not based on reality.
Brazile pulled that one out of her ass if you understood her correctly.

There is no doubt to me that Hillary has embraced the racial divide and has encouraged it. She has carved out her white niche and mainly focuses on the audience who tend to be less open-minded, less educated and more resistant to the idea of a black president.
I'm a white, male, educated 30-something and I'd rather lose in November fighting along side Obama than to have a guaranteed Hillary victory in the fall all because she was effective in attracting the ignorant white vote in the primary season.
I'd rather lose in an effort that I am proud of than win in an effort that makes me sick.

It's nice to know that the only ones that can be part of the "most loyal" base of the Democratic party are black people. Here I am a Latino that has been a party member my entire adult life and I am being told that my vote counts less because I am not educated enough or black enough to be a member of Barach Obama's New democratic party. Not only that but according to Aravosis if I no longer agree with the way the party is running I am a racist. Oh also if I have been contributing money then even if I don't agree with the elite of the party I can't complain about it but must continue to feed my money to people the call me a racist and an idiot. Time to look closer at who is destroying our party. and kiss my brown butt if you think I will shut up and go away quietly in order to stop you from expelling us from a party that we were members of when you were still wearing knickers.

I am sorry to see you twist John Aravosis's words to such a degree, Daniel173. I'm not going to argue with you because I think it would be pointless and unproductive. As you probably are aware, AmBlog is a pro-gay rights site, a demographic group against which bigotry is focused today even more than the black group. As a heterosexual I come here to read the posts because they are so well written and informed. Sudby stuck his neck out long ago and predicted Obama's success. Chris in Paris writes excellently on the economic issues. For your information, and here I speak as a white also, the black American community has been the most loyal to the Democratic Party of all the demographic groups which make up the party through the years including during the "Reagan revolution". As a practical matter, on the other hand, the Republicans and the Democrats have been vying for the Latino vote for years. I think you belong in the Democratic Party with the rest of us. We represent the interests of the Latino community. It's no slight to the Latino community when John calls the black community our most loyal members.

It seems to me, Hillary is flagrantly dismissing the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Referring to the Amendment in Moore v. Ogilvie, 394 U.S. 814 (1969), the Supreme Court observed, "[t]he idea that one group can be granted greater voting strength than another is hostile to the one man, one vote basis of our representative government.”
The statement seems to me to be politically presumptuous rather than racist. Since the New Deal in 1932 Democrats have been able to expect 75% or more of the black vote in the general election. The famous Democratic coalition was actually a tripod, based on the votes of union members, blacks (and other minorities) and liberals/progressives (not that the first two groups may not also have been liberal/progressive). It is very rare for blacks not to support a Democratic nominee. It can be a bit more iffy with the liberal/progressive group, especially if there is a candidate running to the Democrat's left, but the majority of this group also usually votes for the Democratic candidate. The big fight, especially in a presidential race against a Republican candidate, is over the remainder of the population - which is mostly white and predominantly working-class. As I said, the statement is presumptuous because of the apparent assumption that, while a Democratic candidate has to fight for the support of white voters, the black vote can be taken for granted. While that may not be wise, it certainly isn't racist.
