Bill Clinton made a fortune from his presidency. Now he and Hillary want more money and power, but Obama is the greatest threat to their dynasty. If Obama becomes president, the Clinton magic will diminish and they can kiss those multi-million dollar speaking appearances good-bye. It's always about money!

Okay, let's see McCain's returns to put all of this in perspective. I'm betting blind trusts hide most of it.

So can good old regular middle class folks get back the donations they made to President Clinton's "Legal Defense Fund" back in 1999.
You know backin the olden days when the pitch was that the poor Clinton's were going to end up leaving public service broke because of all the frivolous lawsuits they were being subjected to?
  • Tom3 · 1 year ago
Hillary is a rich bitch. She represents rich people and corporations, same as Chimpy. Hillary is out of touch with the day to day reality all of us working people face. She is insulated from our problems so she cannot understand what they are to fix them. I've had enough rich fucks running the government into the ground. To hell with Hilary.
  • Tom3 · 1 year ago
Another way Hillary is no different from Chimpy is how she waited until Friday afternoon - the notorious Repuke "news dump" - to release her tax forms.

This guarantees they will not be exposed to a full news cycle and will go away.

Hillary uses Chimpy tactics. Hillary can go fuck herself.

Why won't Obama meet with any, ANY gay newspapers? http://wonkette.com/376296/philadelphias-gay-pe...

"Here's Segal, the King of Gay Newspapers:

We don't put ads on our front page, so we didn't lose any money by doing so. Although, no publisher wants a blank space in their paper! Or as we call it, you know, creative white space! [laughs] We wanted to make it clear from the very start that we had done our research. And I think what is shocking is that the campaign has not been able to refute our facts. It has been 1,522 days since he's spoken to local gay press. [...]

That goes back to 2004. That's not acceptable. I am the former president of the National Gay Newspaper Guild, and last week, during a break in the meeting, former publishers and editors were sitting around the table, and half of them were Obama supporters. And we all started discussing the fact that practically every one of them has gone after Obama for an interview — and they've all gotten the runaround!"
  • EdSikov · 1 year ago
Obama's people were idiots as far as that refusal to grant an interview to Phil Gay News is concerned. Idiots.

And we wonder why anyone would want to be a politician, much less president. Clinton's tax return's show everyone why. Not bad for a poor, but smart kid from Arkansas and his wife.
  • OlderAndWiser · 1 year ago
I'll bet the Clintons' fortune is much more, off the books, and offshore.

You can bet Bill made more than $3 million from that Dubai deal, too.

2002 charitable giving shows they grossed more that 9.4 million and only gave 1.2% to charity!??!!? WTF!!! And look at how the charitable giving was increased as if get closer to 2008. They had to give more so it would be closer to a 10% average. They didn't want to look cheap--lol.

They are such trash. If she was running for the presidency, I'm sure it would have stayed around 2-5%.

I read that Philly Gay Paper story this morning and was very unhappy.

What the hell is Obama doing? Maybe he really is anti-gay after all ...and hiring that gay-bashing gospel singer was done on purpose.

    EdSikov and Tom3,

Obama is very pro-gay rights and two days ago Chris Matthews asked him about his position on gay marriage. His answer can be found at this link:
    http://www.americablog.com/2008/04/hillary-clin...
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
OBAMA: I’m not in favor of gay marriage, but I’m in favor of a very strong civil union. Right now, states even where you’ve got civil unions still aren’t getting the same benefits at the federal level. So the federal government just doesn’t recognize them. And that is about 1,200 laws, rights and benefits that are not being given to same sex couples. It is it is very important that those laws apply equally. I think it is very important that we pass a human rights ordinance, like I passed along with another close sponsor in Illinois, to prevent discrimination in housing, in jobs.

I think young people are way ahead of the curve this issue. And I think it is important for the rest of the country to catch up and make sure that everybody is treated the same regardless of sexual orientation.

MATTHEWS: Isn’t it discrimination when you say people can’t get married?

OBAMA: I think that it is important for us to make sure that all the legal rights that are conferred in a marriage are also conferred in a civil union.
  • EdSikov · 1 year ago
I know his position on gay marriage, Nigel. It's better than some, but still denies me and my partner a fundamental civil right. Moreover, this is not about gay marriage. It's about getting the gay vote in Philadelphia. And he fucked up.
  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
    Ed,

How did Obama "fuck up" because he didn't accept an interview with some gay paper? Gimme a break! His position is very clear and I am sick and tired of references to his religion. Marriage is religious ceremony. In California we have civil unions and if a gay couple wants to get married, we have Churches that perform the ceremony too.

  • Nigel Elliott · 1 year ago
    Jeff,

Since we have a separation of church and state, the government has no business in matrimony. In the Constitution, we have the right of equal protection, so IMHO, it's unconstitutional for the government to sanction any type of marriage. The US, like France, should allow any couple (gay or straight) to enter into a civil union, and if you want a marriage ceremony, then go find a church to perform the ceremony.

Don't kid yourself. Bush, Delay, Hastert, Santorum, Allen, etc., were just getting started.

Next step was to elimnate all non-military government programs and to rewrite the constitution to reflect a fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible.

Then, they'd probably find a way to deal with "objectional elements."

You have no idea how bad it could have been.

This news about Billary is outrageous. She had absolutely no right to hoarde that amount of money. During the same period, Barack was working hard and serving the people. I, like everyone else I know, have given up making excuses for the degenerate Clintons. Bill shamed the White House when he took advantage of a very young intern, and now Shillary is an embarrassment hauling in huge amounts of cash. We need to end the divisive politics of the corrupt Clintonistas and embrace true change and unity with Barack. Obama has pledged to work with key Republicans and compromise in the spirit of ending partisan bickering. We need to stop hating all Republicans and heal the divide. When Hillary finally ends her racist campaign, the healing can begin.

R's will get you backwards. Dems will get a little bit nowhere, but at least not backwards, or as fast as R's will.

This stupid intra-Dem shit has to stop and the Dems have to actually become progressive to do so. Whichever candidate you support, they gotta go left againdt the right, and not Centrist in the Fall in the General, because as a country we're already WAY TOO FAR RIGHT.

That's why I don't trust Algore for his failure to endorse Obama. Gore is slinking around in the wings waiting for Obama to slip up and then Gore wants to waltz in like some white knight. I've never trusted the freak ever since he claimed to invent the internet. We want someone real to lead like Obama - a man of the people. We don't want a cowardly egghead like Gore. I just don't trust the guy for playing political games by not endorsing Obama.

Johnosahon: "don't tell me she donated 10million, they didn't they opened a "charity" account worth 10 million, that tax cannot touch, these people are THIEVES."

I can tell you that the African-American community is especially angered by this almost criminal conduct. Both Bill and Hillary are seen as some of the most corrupt politicians to ever set foot in the White House. African-Americans want to support a Democrat candidate who can restore dignity to the White House and replace the shame and misconduct of the criminal Clinton legacy of failure. We've got to defeat Billary in this primary to send a message to the crony leaders of the DNC that we are sick of the racist policies of the Clintonista crowd.
  • slither · 1 year ago
I'm confused -- don't those figures mean that they made relatively little money? The two of them making 100 million, together, in 8 years is much less than that made by the CEO of a failed finance company in 1 year! And, unlike the wealthy class, Bill Clinton made $51 million by working, not merely collecting dividends from his investments. I'd bet that Bush makes far more that now, and that he will we make much more after his term ends.

We left-wingers have this nasty habit of eating our own stars. Somehow a person becomes tainted, or a "sell-out", just by doing well. It doesn't even matter that they are far less well-off than their right-wing equivalents, we demand penance for the crime of their success. Lawyers for non-profits make far, far less than they can make from profitable companies -- when we punish people for being idealistic and left-wing, is it any wonder that we get far fewer people working on our side?

Since we have a separation of church and state....

    ---

    ahh... see...

NOW you get to the crux of the issue at hand.

do you really truely believe that the religious right gives a flying fuck about two gay guys getting married??

HELL NO!... it doesn't have fuck-all to do with RELIGIOUS beliefs either!

    its all about power.

if they let 'the separation of church and state' rule exist... they're done!

gay rights are the LAST stand for organized religion in this country to insinuate their agenda into government.

if we get equal rights, their 'religious' arguement fails... and the 'separation of church and state' actually becomes what it CLAIMS to be.

right now, there IS NO separation of church and state.

again, it has NOTHING to do with religious background... OR gay marriage.

it has EVERYTHING to do with moving toward a theocracy in this country [read, POWER]... and burying the myth of 'the separation of church and state' once and for all.

Vinny G, the assets (including house) of the Obamas is under $2 million...they're pikers compared to the rest of them. That's considered upper-middle class in the US, not really "rich" although I'd be happy with it. : )

http://www.slate.com/id/2187402/entry/0/ (2006 return, showing less than $1M in income, including his book income of half a mil.
  • ObamaMiracle · 1 year ago
OlderAndWiser: "the assets (including house) of the Obamas is under $2 million."

I would argue that this indicates he has much more integrity than either of the Clintons. 2 million is middle-class in today's economy. And most people in DC make far more than that. Obama can identify with the average family that is struggling to make ends meet and both parents working to put food on the table. Bill and Hillary and the Chinese slush funds are an amoral gluttony of riches. They have amassed far more wealth than even most Republicans (including McCain). The American people don't want some high class ho trying to rip off this country. We want an average middle-class hero like Barack.
  • Tyke · 1 year ago
I think it is more fair to compare the Clintons' earning when Bill was around Obama's age and before he became president.

I'm with you, Vinny G...and I am a minister. I have no business acting as an agent of the state. The european model is not a bad one. All persons wishing to get married go to the civil magistrate or town hall, and enter into this legal contract right there at the office. Then, if they wish, they can go have a religious ceremony. There are churches and other religious institutions that will bless all sorts of marriages, and some that wont. Complete separation of church and state.
    ----

that's a great concept Jim... It won't fly in this country though.

the mega-churches with HUGE amounts of money use fear as a tactic to stir up their followers. think about it... how is my marriage (civil or otherwise) to my Husbear weakening the marriage of some couple in the Bible Belt??

However, if your mega-church leaders tell you this is BAAAAAAD. you listen. your church leaders can do no wrong... they're your parents, they'd never lie to you and you rely on their guidance.

The Catholic church was able to hide YEARS of molestation in that way. If aA kid told his parents that a priest touched him... his parents beat him. I preist would NEVER do something like that.

mega-churches = money, money = power... separation of church and state = loss of patronage = loss of money = loss of power over the followers.

This is how I look at it... If my getting married weakens the vows that some heterosexual couple took... maybe their marriage wasn't exactly stable to begin with.

As someone who bought (and still possess) every book Bill and Hillary published, I'm glad they have found success. What I care about, and is yet to be revealed, is the 2007 tax returns (that have not been released because they are filing an extension?). Unfortunately, the Clintons have once again furthered their image as secretive. What are they hiding?

How convenient for the Clintons to dump this on a Friday.

All these people running are way better off than any of us, and are not connected with reality. None will truly act in "we the people's" interest; McCain acting worst, Clinton next worst, and Obama last worst, but still not good.

None of them are any good. I still say a Dem will win in November, probably Obama, and I still say it won't make much difference. Gas, bread, produce and milk will be the same or worse in 2009. Rights won't be much better either.

Is it better now that we have a Dem controlled House and Senate? Hmmm mmm. I thought so.
  • Vinny_G · 1 year ago
OBAMA: I think that it is important for us to make sure that all the legal rights that are conferred in a marriage are also conferred in a civil union.

Then make all unions civil. Just have a religious ceremony if you want one. Keep any ministers out of the business of conferring property rights.

Think about it. Ministers/churches can confer property rights. Theocracy = bullshit.
