Let's be fair guys, here is the article: Obama's campaign has disavowed Wright's media tour, and a correspondent notes an interesting detail:
Wright was invited to the National Press Club by a journalist and minister who supports Clinton.
The Tribune reports that Wright was invited by Barbara Reynolds, a former USA Today editorial board member who has written on personal blog of her support for Clinton.
I don't mean to suggest some kind of plot. Her agenda here seems to have been the same as Wright's: To protect the minister's reputation from, among others, Obama.
"[I]t is a sad testimony that to protect his credentials as a unifier above the fray the Senator is fueling the media characterization that Rev. Dr. Wright is some retiring old uncle in the church basement instead of respecting Wright for the towering astute father of progressive social and global causes that he is," Reynolds wrote in March.
Reynolds' is well placed to defend Wright. Her bio says she teaches "prophetic ministry and the media" at Howard University's divinity school.
ALSO: Richard Prince points out that Reynolds has spoken critically of Clinton as well, after grilling her -- and being dissatisfied with her answer -- on the Ferraro flap.

call me crazy, but i still think most of what Wright says is right. and i don't hate America and i'm white.
if more people (white folks) were more familiar with black churches and the black experience in America, in general, this wouldn't all be so 'shocking'.

This obsession is not about Wright.
Now is the time for Obama to make a major address on real needs of real people v. corporate media obsession on the inane. Regain control and make the foolish react to message of change and substance.
Forgive me for plugging my blog: http://malcontends.blogspot.com/ , but Obama needs to use the obession now to his advantage and take back the conversation , for a time, and make everyone react to his message.

this is fantastic from dKos...
thousands and thousands and thousands of people listen to Pastor John Hagee every Sunday, and no one is shocked! by the crap coming out of his mouth...i guess it's just different when the hate comes from a white man and is directed at gays and Muslims...
When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic. -- Dresden James
wright is right... it's us that simply aren't ready to hear it and, until we are, not a lot is going to change...
As noted on Keith Olbermann, Rev Wright is writing a book to be released just before the elections in November. He raised eyebrows over the past few days with several of his comments. I have nothing against Rev Wright and have said on several occasions that the sound bites being played over and over again were taken out of context of his former sermons. Olbermann showed several clips of interviews with Wright in the past weekend and it seems to me that Wright has thrown Obama under the bus, just as Olbermann suggests. Wright is going to be an on going problem as long as the media fixates on his relationship with Obama.

Perhaps when Sully totally repudiates the rightwing, he will be more believable and less offended by what seems to me a lot of correct assumptions by Jeremiah Wright, a black man who, believing in the possibilities of the US, joined the Marines for 6 years while people who think like Sully were avoiding the draft.
If anything, Sully's wrath sould be pointed toward those white churches which see him as less than human.

i think andrew sullivan is dead wrong. his rant against Wright sounds just like sean hannity, demanding that Obama denounce and disown and blast Wright for what he says.
Obama has already dealt with it. to do more legitimizes the screechers on the far right.

I think a more accurate statement would be that a Wright supporter and fellow member of the clergy invited Wright to speak. At least, that's what I found out when I followed your link. Your headline implies some causal link between the Clinton campaign and Wright's decision to go public -- none exists, based on this data or any other that I have seen.
And Andrew is dead wrong. Were Obama to distance himself from his spiritual advisor, a very popular figure in the black liberation theology movement, he will be seen as continuing to place politics over faith, as Wright suggests he is doing, and in contradiction of Barack's central tenet that he does not represent politics as usual. One of Barack's strongest constituencies right now is in the African American community, and throwing Wright under the bus will not only divide that constituency but give Republicans just the kind of ammunition they need to paint Obama as just another liberal flip-flopping politician who does not understand loyalty (Bushies are BIG on loyalty, especially to father figures).
There is at least one successful route for Barack Obama here. I believe he should say that Reverend Wright is a perfect example of why Barack Obama is running for office. In Obama's life, he has seen people he loves, admires and respects make statements about Obama's government which Obama finds offensive. But it did not motivate Obama to distance himself from the people he loves, to demonize them; instead, it motivated Obama to try to understand why intelligent people of faith, people dedicated to their communities, could hold such extremist views of their government. And in the end it convinced Obama that this was a failure of government, that his government was not bringing a message of hope to his community, and in the process allowing these extreme conspiracy theories to thrive. So Obama is running to bring a message of hope to his community and every community; because if government works right, intelligent people like Reverend Wright will see it and believe it and participate in it. And trust it.
I do hope that Barack Obama follows this route or some other route that avoids dividing the African-American community. How tragic would it be for the first viable African-American presidential candidate to be part of a narrative that leads to such a result?
But as for Hilary and her campaign, she is not behind every challenge that Barack Obama faces. As far as I'm concerned, blaming Hilary Clinton for the decisions of Reverent Wright is about as logical as blaming the US Government for creating AIDS to kill black people.

I am not sure if Sullivan is right or wrong on this but I do agree with his statement that it is about Wright trying to associate himself with the candidate.

On Hardball last night, one of the pundits (Ryan something) tried desperately to point out that Obama's words and, more importantly, his RECORD are not aligned with anything the Rev is saying. Of course, Tweety was having none of it. Why talk about a man's record when you can work up massive spittle over some former preacher who does not speak for Obama or form his political views? Tweety and the rest of the talking heads seem to think America benefits from their "inside conversations" about things that highlight their cocktail parties. No wonder Scarborough keeps getting caught with his mouth full. It's one big effing party for these tools while our beloved country goes to hell.

How in the world is 911 NOT chickens coming home to roost?
Was this not classic blowback? Was this not done by someone the CIA trained? Was there no clear warning, many times over that when we meddled in the middle east, desecrating their soild by having military on Suadi soil, as well as many other things such as what we now are doing? Dropping bombs on innocent people, WHO VOTED FOR THAT? Our countries people didn't "deserve" it by any means, but neither did the people we have sentenced to ill treatment and death. We supported Hussein...Iraq, we overthrew the Shah, we are ALL over the place and his point is true, if we want to go mess in other cultures and throw our weight around, and kill people, we are gong to get enemies.

Anti-Obamaists wanted him to condemn Wright because they see Wright as a crackpot, correct? Instead, this "crackpot" went on to disown Obama instead. Thats a good thing for Obama. He doesn't have to be on the defensive anymore. Whats the point of asking Obama to justify his "spiritual" relationship with a guy who just publicly disowned him? The question isn't relevant anymore.
If Wright went on to claim that Obama will be the next messiah, that would have been a problem...........I thank God that he didn't.

Milli, I think it is time for Obama to disown him too. I'd like to see this particular story get legs, the Clinton supporter giving Wright a venue to vent his. . . whatever. Usually I think Ben Smith is pro-Clinton but I'm glad he wrote about this, and kudos to AmericaBlog for linking. Now, I'm wondering if Rev. Sharpton is not being paid to act up too?

After thinking about Wright last night, I get the feeling that Obama and his former pastor agreed to separate in this public manner. Obama couldn't throw Wright under the bus, but Wright could Obama. Now Obama is free to be a "politician" and Wright is free to be a pastor again. And by November, the majority of voters will know that Obama is a Christian and he has a new pastor in a new church. The planned barrage of GOP attack ads linking the two will have little impact by then. Better to right this wrong now, than later.....

Hey you guys like how twenty years ago Clinton was smart enough to go and convince a young just out of Havard Obama to become a member of Wright's church. Mind you he didn't want to join because at that time he didn't accept Christ it was all for his future in politics. Clinton then forced him to sit thru twenty years of vile racist anti-American sermons and did not allow poor Obama to walk out of the church or even object to the sermons. That evil witch went so far as to make sure Obama was not in the church even once when Wright was doing his David Duke impression. Yes people not once thru baptisims and weddings did Mr. Obama hear Wright spout his hatred. Oh yea I guess Clinton was also the person that introduced Obama to that sweet girl who up until this year had never been proud of her country. How could she be proud after all she was only able to rise from a middle class family to go on to Princeton and Havard Law and now be making 2 Million dollars a year. no reason to be proud about that. I can't wait to find out what other vile things that dastardly Clinton has in store for the chosen one before he loses or has the election stolen from his.

Wright a Clinton supporter press trick?
It also turns out that Reynolds - introduced Monday as a member of the National Press Club "who organized" the event - is an enthusiastic Hillary Clinton supporter.
On a blog linked to her Web site- www.reynoldsnews.com- Reynolds said in a February post: "My vote for Hillary in the Maryland primary was my way of saying thank you" to Clinton and her husband for the successes of Bill Clinton's presidency.
The same post criticized Obama's "Audacity of Hope" theme: "Hope by definition is not based on facts," wrote Reynolds. It is an emotional expectation. Things hoped for may or may not come. But help based on experience trumps hope every time." http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/columnists/...
