AMERICAblog: Clinton's dramatic health care story is dramatic, but not true -- and the campaign never vetted it.

  • Indigo · 1 year ago
It's puzzling that Hillary's so loose with facts but consistent with the Republican approach that she represents inside the Democratic Party. After all, President Bush (43) did not need to vet the facts about the weapons of mass distruction that he used to trigger his military adventure into Iraq. There saying McCain, if elected, would be Bush's 3rd term. I'm saying there's a danger that Hillary, if nominated and elected, would also be Bush's 3rd term. I'm no longer to believe that HIllary's revisions are products of zeal and dedication. The Truth is out there for everyone to recognize: Hillary is a Republican.

  • EdNSted · 1 year ago
Particularly at this point in the campaign, I can't figure out why they would be using a story they are unable to vet. Surely her campaign staff knows anything Clinton says will be heavily scrutinized by the media. This leaves them looking like amatuers and it doesn't feel right. While I'm obviously not a Clinton supporter, I really do believe Senator Clinton and here inner circle are far smarter than that. It's almost like she's campaigning for Obama.

Hillary Clinton has run a very bad campaign. She has been caught lying, and now it seems her campaign is very incompetent. It just shows what a bad
Manager, Hillary is, and perhaps the time they spend throwing the kitchen sink at Obama, should be time spent vetting and trying to get her stories straight.
Also considering the fact that they have financial woes, due to extravagance and mismanagement of funds, we now have a good indication of how Hillary would run the WH.

The way a third person account of an event is morphed into a first person account complete with quoted dialog is so chilling.

This reminds me of the "babies in incubators" story from late 1990, Gulf War I.

Hillary's is the way all liars operate. Way too much detail, they think it makes it more believable unfortunately it allows people an opportunity to check the facts. When caught they spin more detail, get caught again and then are forced to try to make light of it as if the whole incident didn't matter. This may work fine for a Bosnia lie, but to lie about a hospital refusing treatment and then to embellish the story and make it worse opens the door to libel suits and worse ignoring the unfortunate woman who did die. This also ridicules any attempts to really deal with the actual horror stories that exist. The GOP will simply refer to this as another example of the lies about how bad our wonderful healthcare system is. Hillary has destroyed any hope we have for Universal Healthcare for many years. The hospitals, insurance companies and the right wing will line up against America by citing this example of lying and exaggeration. Good job Hillary, can I introduce you to Brownie.
  • Sage24 · 1 year ago
Perhaps Hillary's lies are finally catching up with her. She seems to be a serial liar, and has been caught lying, again, and again, and all for what?
Being caught so badly on video, should be an embarrassment for her.
It seems Hillary is the candidate who is NOT electable. It is naive for her to
think that the Republicans will not bring out all these lies, on top of the baggage she carries.
They wag their finger, they make up stories in front of the camera, lie about their resumes, the Clintons seem to be serial liars.

Hillary should have fired her staff a long time ago. Something is definitely wrong there. She is self destructing her own campaign. What is going on there is beyond me. At any rate I think she needs to call it a day and endorse Obama. The GOP will rip her apart with this stuff she has pulled within the last couple of weeks.

"...Senator Clinton, in voting to authorize the war, displayed a tragic recklessness. A more complete picture, in fact the "real" truth was available, and the Senator didn't make the effort to seek it out. The logical question given the gravity and ramifications of that vote: Was it just carelessness or a willingness to select the data set that provided an advantageous political position?

And so we come to Trina Brachtel, her baby boy, and O’Bleness Memorial Hospital."

I agree with others who have said: Why make up stuff when it is painfully easy to get true stories?

This tells me that she really DOESN'T believe American health care is in crisis. And it is.

With every one of these stories, I get more confused as to how so many women can be for her, while covering their ears and singing "LALALA I can't hear you." Do they really think having someone with a vagina in the White House will change anything?

I am a female -- in the age category that is profoundly pro-Clinton. Yes, I have withstood all the discrimination women have had -- for decades. Yet, to me, I want to be for a PERSON who will help me -- and the country -- the most. Whether it be a female, an AA, a Hispanic, a gay person, whatever -- I just want the best PERSON. Isn't that what EQUAL RIGHTS means?
  • Medicman · 1 year ago
Folks, she didn't lie. She repeated a story that was told to her that and that she believed was true...and parts of the story were in fact true. For all we know ALL of the story could be true and the hospital is just trying to cover it up. Yes, her staff should check out the stories before they feed them to her, but trashing her for lying is wrong (yes the Bosnia thing was a gross exaggeration). The point is our health care sucks, but the folks here at americablog would rather focus on slamming HRC. Read the Times story for the full explanation.
  • Jacks60611 · 1 year ago
she did lie...the story wasn't true...the health care system is broken, no doubt...the question is, who fixes it?...HRC had my support, but I won't vote for her now because of the lies...Bosnia, exaggerating her experience in the Clinton WH, now this...I've had enough lies from the White House...we may never have a President that tells the whole truth, but why elect a known liar?
  • ObamaMiracle · 1 year ago
    Jacks60611: "she did lie...the story wasn't true."

She's dishonest to the bone just like her philandering husband Billy boy. I won't vote for her either. As hard as it is for me to stomach, I would rather even have McCain in the White House than another corrupt Clintonista.
  • lynchie · 1 year ago
Medicman: a lie is when you repeat something that is untrue. Have we not had enough of the Bush Administration and their lies. Does the Clinton staff not see the need to confirm everything she says is accurate especially after NAFTA, Bosnia and now this. To say Bosnia was an exaggeration is another lie. If something did not happen then it is a lie to repeat it and repeat it and repeat it and repeat it. The worst offense in my mind was showing up on Leno and making a poor joke about her lies. There is nothing funny about lying, there is nothing ethical about lying and one is left to wonder, when will she not lie. Is this story true or is it a lie. She has a history of acting and not thinking. She did not read the overview of Iraq and voted for War. She voted to invade Iran, she used her position as first lady to push NAFTA when HummerBoy was President. Lies that can be checked for accuracy are opening yourself up to ridicule. Do you think all these will not be used against her by McCain, Rove Cheney and the coven. Wake up, we aren't trashing her, she is doing that to herself.

Well, well, well. Regarding Hillarycare: back in the 90's the American public resoundingly rejected the socialized medical plan she tried to force on us. Now she's back with some airhead plan which actually forces people to parcipate. Yep, she's going to penalize the low income poor and garnish their wages (even if they work at McDonalds). Hillary's lies and deceit are turning out to be just as bad as adulterous Slick Willy's. She needs to concede the nomination to Barack who basically has enough votes to win anyways.
  • shell · 1 year ago
"Regarding Hillarycare: back in the 90's the American public resoundingly rejected the socialized medical plan she tried to force on us."

Do you understand health care?????? Hillary did NOT try to force "socialized medicine" on us. It was more of the same old crap that both she AND Obama tout now. The health care system in this country won't be fixed UNTIL we DO have socialized medicine.

And countless Americans will DIE, or have their lives greatly shortened until Americans get that through their thick skulls and stop freaking out when the term SOCIALIZED is brought up. GROW UP, you babies.

Aside from having cause for celebration watching her self destruct before she's able to blackmail/ pressure/threaten the super delegates, this kind of shit is unforgivable. Now when Obama talks about affordable heath care for everyone, the GOP will bring up Hillary's exaggeration to imply there really isn't a problem that increased taxes would merit. There are so many real horror stories out there and now each will be met with automatic suspicion. She is killing health care AGAIN!
  • SarainKC · 1 year ago
Medicman, I'll give her credit for not authoring this latest story straight from fantasy land, but aside from her own whoppers, this illustrates her willingness to "go along" without the vetting one would think a person running for President under a microscope would do. If you recall, this is what she did prior to her vote to give Bush authorization to attack Iraq. She had the NIE, chose not to read it and trusted Bush. Of course she now claims she was duped. How damn dumb is she?
  • SINGING_TROLL · 1 year ago
You couldn't make it up (unless you're Hillary, that is)

Traditionally, Democrat candidates for President start slightly radical, then try to reassure Conservative America, get in a tangle and look like idiots. But this time may be different, because Barack Obama has stuck by his friend the militant preacher, refusing to disown him, and Hillary Clinton has gone mental.
Her response to being caught lying to a military audience, when she invented a story about being under sniper fire in Bosnia, was to say it wasn't surprising she got some things wrong, seeing how she spoke millions of words every day. What a magnificent idea, that if you say lots of words some of them are bound to be fantastic lies. So if you listen carefully to horse-racing commentators they say things like "And it's Teddy's Boy still leading three furlongs out as they come up to the fourth last fence with Nip and Tuck two lengths behind by the way I fought a tiger once, punched it clean out and they're all safely over."

And auctioneers say, "Three-fifty, three-sixty, three-seventy, three-seventy man in the hat three-eighty here, my dad invented cornflakes, going once going twice, and magnets, he invented them straight up – gone."

Anyone can make a mistake about what happened on a trip, she said, and she's right. You might forget the name of the couple you met on the beach, or whether Thursday was the day you came under sustained mortar attack and had to dive behind sandbags and shoot your way out to safety, or was it the day you went to the dolphinarium.

This wasn't just a politician's lie, it was the pointless lie of someone who sits on their own in pubs and leans across to grab you and lie compulsively. Her next round of soft-focus adverts will probably feature her soothingly saying, "My fellow Americans, I drank a pint of walrus milk once for a bet. I speak fluent Eskimo. I once ate all the gherkins in Belgium. My brother's got a yak in his loft. I fell asleep on a night bus once and woke up in Munich, and had to get a lift back on a camel. I used to live on an iceberg. I've got a waffle-maker that works underwater."

Funny thing about the tax returns Hillary. The charitable donations went almost solely to the Clinton Foundation.

In 2002, for instance, they reported income totaling $9.5 million and $115,000 in gifts to charity. In other years, they have given much larger amounts to their family foundation, but it has yet to disburse all of the money.

The Clintons took a tax deduction in 2004 for $2.5 million in charitable gifts, $2 million of which went to their family foundation, which as a tax-exempt nonprofit is considered a charity under the tax code. That same year, the foundation gave away just $221,000 to charitable groups, according to its tax return

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/05/us/politics/0...

article in the New York times. How convenient. i gotta get me one of the non profit deals.

I know what you HillBots will say. Well the loophole exists so use it. Not if you are talking about a cabinet post to look at poverty. Do some good for someone else not for yourself.

Another deceitful act by a greedy, unethical family.
  • Medicman · 1 year ago
lynchie: When you set up a charitable foundation, you have to deposit a chunk of money into it, let's say 2.5 million, then from that money which gets invested (stock market, treasury bonds, etc), you then disperse the money that the invested money makes in that year, in this case a little less than 10% of the foundation's "nest egg." If you give all 2,5 million away at once, there's no "foundation" left. Stop looking for stupid reasons to hate the Clintons. if you want to hate them, hate them on the issues.

Seems the lying part goes back a long way.

Watergate-Era Judiciary Chief of Staff: Hillary Clinton Fired For Lies, Unethical Behavior

As Hillary Clinton came under increasing scrutiny for her story about facing sniper fire in Bosnia, one question that arose was whether she has engaged in a pattern of lying.

The now-retired general counsel and chief of staff of the House Judiciary Committee, who supervised Hillary when she worked on the Watergate investigation, says Hillary’s history of lies and unethical behavior goes back farther – and goes much deeper – than anyone realizes.

Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat, supervised the work of 27-year-old Hillary Rodham on the committee. Hillary got a job working on the investigation at the behest of her former law professor, Burke Marshall, who was also Sen. Ted Kennedy’s chief counsel in the Chappaquiddick affair. When the investigation was over, Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation – one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman’s 17-year career.

    Why?

"Because she was a liar," Zeifman said in an interview last week. "She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality." .

The above was reported in the Atlantic.

    http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/20...

I will openly admit Obama can't bowl worth shit, but at least he doesn't have a 40 year history of being a liar.

Let's hope the hospital's side of the story checks out. This could get even messier - I bet it will. Regardless, it demonstrates the risks a politician takes when embellishing/exaggerating a story. It also demonstrates how little Clinton cares that she may make a lot of people miserable and feeling victimized by a powerful public figure if the story turns out to be false. Basically, it was Clinton's fault first and foremost for the mess she has made. Then it was the campaign people who took her cue and let it pass.

    Some Delegates 'Super'cede Others
Group Of Superdelegates Can Appoint Other Superdelegates, Giving Them Even More Power

WASHINGTON (AP) ― Some of those presidential superdelegates Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton are pursuing are more super than others.

One delegate, one vote doesn't apply to them. These prominent Democrats can name additional superdelegates, giving them control over multiple convention votes, and that could be the difference in a race that may not be decided until the August convention.

The clout of the nearly 800 superdelegates is unprecedented in this year's race because neither Obama nor Clinton can clinch the nomination with only the delegates won in state primaries and caucuses. Largely overlooked in the arcane process, though, is the power of a select few to complete the superdelegate ranks by naming 76 newbies, and Clinton and Obama are fighting hard over every one of those from state conventions to back rooms.

Separated by fewer than 140 delegates, both candidates are lobbying the hundreds of known superdelegates, employing family, friends and influential surrogates to woo the governors, lawmakers and other party leaders. Some are more important than others.

Consider Art Torres, chairman of the California Democratic Party. He remains uncommitted, yet he could be the most powerful superdelegate of all. Torres gets to name five additional superdelegates, giving him control over six votes at the national convention this summer.

"I am the super of supers!" Torres proclaims with a laugh.

Oh, she's using kind of a Midwestern-Plains State accent too.

She has a fake accent for every region, doesn't she?

yeah pretty strange for someone from illinois to have a midwestern accent.

This is DEVASTATING for the Clinton campaign. Once again, another example of a HUGE lie.

Just one last item from the Washington Post (not the most reliable but?)

While it is impossible to be certain, the evidence points overwhelmingly to April 1962. So why did Clinton say "a cold night in January 1963" in her Selma speech? The Clinton campaign isn't saying, although I have asked them several times. The most likely explanation is that Clinton's speech writers rewrote the passage from the 1999 Gail Sheehy book, complete with the erroneous title for the sermon, without checking the facts. (The give-away clue: Both Sheehy and Clinton use the phrase "Great Revolution," which is not on the Sunday Evening Club index card.)

They gave her one Pinochio. Anyone sense a pattern of bad fact checking and embellishment.

Colombia cuts ties with Clinton strategist
    Posted: 12:26 PM ET

Mark Penn is a chief strategist for the Clinton campaign.
(CNN) – The Colombian government severed ties with Clinton strategist Mark Penn and his public relations firm Saturday, unhappy Penn referred to a recent meeting with the Colombian ambassador as an "error in judgment."

"Mr. Mark Penn, President and CEO of Burson Marsteller, responded to claims by Union representatives who questioned his relationship with the Colombian Government by declaring that it was an 'error in judgment' to meet with his client the Colombian Ambassador on March 31. The Colombian government considers this a lack of respect to Colombians, and finds this response unacceptable," a statement from the Colombian embassy said.

No, it's not a Chicago area accent.

    I live there, I know.

She's using some kind of phony Nebraska-Dakota accent.

    lynchie,

Hillary's story about throwing her book bag at the news of MLK assassination stunk to high heaven. It's the kind of detail that might sound good in a novel but in real life, who the hell remembers throwing a book bag 40 years later?

Yeah, it sounded like a scene from a movie.

Someone said on another site that Clinton's story about how she felt when King was murdered: she was so angry she through her book bag across the room. The writer pointed out that people didn't carry book bags in '68.

So, I have come not to trust anything she says. Just like W.

The Clinton campaign: ""In this case, we did try, but were not able to fully vet it."

Question: Is there anyone in America who still thinks Hillary is the person we want to answer the phone in the White House at 3 AM?

Do you remember when the Republicans harassed the family from Baltimore when they testified in favor of SCHIP? Well, can you only imagine how they will investigate this poor family? Even if one gives Hillary the benefit of the doubt that she beleived the story, it was still wreckless to repeat this story as fact. It was a bit too specific for hyberbole.

This really is embarrassing, even other countries are picking up on these yarns and they are laughing.

What about all that experience she claims to have, even I would have gotten as much info on it if I were to be talking about it on the campaign trail!

Now-sadly, I wonder about any story she tells...MLK for instance.

Maybe she needs to go to Hollywood for awhile- get it out of her system.

If the repubs spend one tenth as much time nit picking every word out of Barack's mouth, blowing up non-stories into the end of the world, and spreading their obsessive hatred as you all do about Hillary, he will be in real trouble. This bizarre hatred of the Clintons that has blossomed on the left in the last few months borders on the pathological.
  • vkobaya · 1 year ago
Now, I don't imagine the Republicans would make hay out of this pattern in the general election, do you?

No, don't really think the Republicans want to bring up that someone has a problem with lying since they have problems of their own. If you compare Clinton to Bush or any of his administration, yes, Clinton is probably a student of the Bush technique of using lies. However, compared to the Bush lies, she is just a grasshopper to the Zen master of Lies, the high priest of lies, the Liar-in-Chief.

A sense of entitlement is of diagnostic value.

It implies a persistent ingrained pattern that won't go away.

    I'll drink to that!

If at first you don't succeed, LIE LIE AGAIN! This seems to have become Hil's ruling mantra. Now you would think she and her "advisors" would have learned from the disaster of the Tuzla over-dramatization, but apparently not. Would any thinking person want this person as president when she cannot see how poorly she is being served by "advisors" to whom she is paying so much??? But perhaps she doesn't care... after all we all now know she is not just a racist monster bitch; she is a RICH RACIST MONSTER BITCH!!
  • missmarple · 1 year ago
I had a feeling when she started out that there was something wrong with this story. It was the same feeling I got when she told us her reaction to hearing of MLK"s assassination. Just too much sighing and pauses.
  • Rusty · 1 year ago
She uses to much drama. She is quite a drama queen and you can tell when she is lying becauses she over exergerates, pauses and pretends pity and grieve for the poor woman. And yet, the story is false! A total lie!
We don't need another liar and deceiver in the White House. enough is enough!

By the time this is all over, many of her most ardent supporters will slump in recognition that she was, in fact, deeply, deeply incompetant. Incompetant in judgement, in the ability to persuade, in the ability to organize. She doesn't pass the Politics 101 test.
