AMERICAblog: CNN: McCain wants first Pres. debate to replace VP debate, which will be delayed "until another time"

  • Btalk314 · 1 year ago
Good. This will give the media more time to talk about Palin's adultery charges in this week's National Enquirer.
  • Millineryman · 1 year ago
Move the debate to DC then.

I'd love it if the press didn't cover his stunt in DC.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
Ole Miss claims it would lose $5.5 million. This is part of the bum's rush to get the Democrats to sign onto their bailout plan.
  • Millineryman · 1 year ago
Then McCain's campaign should make up the difference. I know that won't happen.
  • Mollie · 1 year ago
This guy is acting like he is the President and can do what the hell he wants. When are people going to see what this guy would do to this country ? He thinks he runs everything. This man is senile from the get go. Yes, he is afraid of the Palin adultry charge. It is the truth, it has been out for weeks now.
  • shrrrr · 1 year ago
The debate night dinner party at my house is still on, though.
  • jebauer · 1 year ago
I said it before, I'll say it again. Have the VP debate Friday. Do the 1st Prez debate on the VP date.
  • naschkatzehussein · 1 year ago
And I say, don't cave into the lunatic. If McCain doesn't show up, Obama gets a one on one with Jim Lehrer.
  • triple7s · 1 year ago
OMG!!!! Did you see Palin grab and hug poor old Henry Kissass at the UN. He looked terrified.
  • moreleesafer · 1 year ago
    no..........she..................di'int.....................

    oh gawd
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
Obama needs to NOT budge one inch and insist TONIGHT that McCain show up at the Friday debate OR send Palin to replace him there, just as a president DOES in a crisis.

McCain can NOT be allowed to manipulate things. The pubic is NOT on McCain's side on this, and this is a TEST to see who flinches first. McCain can NOT win if Obama simply holds his ground. If McCain doesn't show up, he will shrink even more in the polls.
  • devis1 · 1 year ago
Hah, that' the ticket!! Send Palin. LOL
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
And MEMO TO LINDSAY GRAHAM: Clay Aiken just did it. You can, too.

So it's up to McCain when the debates will be now?....first they demanded and got a change in the VP debate format to make it easier.....and now they are going to decide when the Pres debates are???

McCain needs to be told when the debates are ....period....show or no show.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
on MSNBC: Debate commission said debate will be Friday.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Good...I hope they stick to that.
  • interlude · 1 year ago
does McSame belong to any of the committees that might deal with this directly?

    anybody know?
  • grandma · 1 year ago
Palin wasn't even allowed to answer one easy question today....per Politico:

Palin gets question, looks to McCain, demurs

This is what happens when campaigns let reporters into photo ops. They get all uppity and ask questions.

From the pool report account of what happened after McCain and Palin's meeting with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvilli and Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko:

McCain then looked around the room and gestured as if to welcome questions. The AP reporter shouted a question at Gov. Palin (“Governor, what have you learned from your meetings?”) but McCain aide Brooke Buchanan intervened and shepherded everybody out of the room.

Palin looked surprised, leaned over to McCain and asked him a question, to which your pooler thinks he shook his head as if to say “No.”

I can't even imagine what McSame's campaign is thinking. The debates are huge for convincing the undecideds, but what makes them think this isn't going to hurt them?

Do the debate in DC! I'll reserve the party room in my condo. It doesn't seat many, so the press would be limited. I think they'd like that.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Yeah, I don't know why they have to fly around the country for those things anyway.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
I'll put Sarah Palin up at my place here in DC. She can even burn a few books here to feel at home.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
What a freakin farce the whole McCain campaign is.....it's a joke.

  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Lets take a step back and imagine:

Barack Obama runs to the national media, gets on network television and proclaims, "I am suspending my campaign and will participate in the next debate because partisan politics have got to stop, and my job in the Senate is getting really hard right now!"

Now, imagine the hysterical gnashing of teeth, screams, howls and roar of the media BASHING Obama for that suggestion.

McCain does it, and the media are bending over backwards to try to explain away the unexplainable. If Obama had done this, 99.999% of the media and 110% of all REPUBLICANS would have said Obama was not competent to be President. They would say he could not multi-task, and that he should be able to handle a crisis and a debate. Instead, we've got media talking about how patriotic John McCain is for being so... incompetent.
  • grandma · 1 year ago
    Exactly !!!
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Right on, there is just absolutely no excuse and Obama would have been ripped to shreds if he pulled this.
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
Plus they'd be interviewing Jeremiah Wright for his thoughts on the subject if Obama did what McCain just did.
  • michaelt · 1 year ago
    what a pussy.

i can't believe people actually want this guy to be in charge. of anything.
  • kim45 · 1 year ago
    What a p**z McCain is!
Who are his advisers? Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne??
Such a farce, they must be all rocking and sucking their thumbs by now at McCain HQ.
  • Happy_Housewife · 1 year ago
Hmmm.... Since Senator McCain is obviously so very, very invaluable in solving this crisis (after all, he is one of the very few people around who remember the last depression) I can go along with this.

But what to do about the open airtime on the networks....???

OF COURSE!!! Let's just schedule the Vice-Presidential debate for this Friday instead of the Presidential debate. Sarah's ready at a moment's notice to stand in, right?

    Right?
  • WDemDem · 1 year ago
That is the absolute solution. Just switch the debates. Let's not put off the inevitable, which is the thorough tongue lashing of Palin and McCain in their respective debates. Oops, was that sexist? My bad! What a coward. The hissy fits are getting be TOO MUCH!
  • cowboyneok · 1 year ago
Okay, the very idea McCain thinks he can just proclaim the debate will not happen makes me wonder does he think he is President and is applying the "Imperial Unitary Executive" crap Bu$cho brought us? What is this?!!?
The "imperial unitary candidacy" for President? Where does he get off just proclaiming a debate will not happen? McCrazy is insane.

By reading these posts it would seem you are all enamoured with John McCain and Sarah Palin and Barrack Obama just isn't worthy of conversation :-)
  • ShirleyGoodnessanMercy · 1 year ago
If Obama were to ever act in a monumentally cowardly fashion we would discuss it. But it's a safe bet that will never, ever happen.
  • Clatech · 1 year ago
John McCain has always put this country first. It's a matter of recorded history. This is just another example of his desire to help in a time of need. John McCain would rather lose an election and save our economy. Barrack Obama just wants to be the "Pres"

First thing I thought of. It's amazing how many people who consider themselves well-informed are unaware of the connection.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
So, they want to hide Palin's ignorance and McCain's senility.
  • Chris From Maine · 1 year ago
Finally the real plan is revealed.

Push the debate back, cancel the VP debate, save Palin's ignorant ass.

    How obvious.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
It's becoming more and more apparent - Palin is Quail with better looking legs. Republicans need to keep her in the closet.
  • benb · 1 year ago
Hiding is the new McCain strategy. What a patriot that guy McCain is.

  • Betterin09 · 1 year ago
No need to cancel veep debate - flip the dates! Have Biden v. Palin this week. That should free up plenty of time for McCain.

  • LawMichigander · 1 year ago
Fine then Obama can go to the debate and give a national address. McCain doesn't want to be there with his 130+ lobbyists many of which run his campaign and lead the deregulation.

McCain isn't suspending his campaign at all, that would require legal paperwork in all 50 states and would prevent him from being on the ballot in some states. Everyone can see through this move. McCain is not the President, Bush is.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
Wait a minute, there is NOTHING about this on the news. Is this a credible story?
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
    The video was from CNN.
  • aquarius2 · 1 year ago
I find it VERY strange this latest development is not mentioned on CNN on line or NBC nightly news.

"America First" my ass! McCain missed 412 Senate votes (64.1%) during the current Congress:
    http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/mem...
This economic mess didn't happened overnight, but over 2/3 of U.S. Senate business
and voting have been blown off by John McCain. He wasn't in the Senate chamber to cast many important votes at all. McCain didn't care about the economy or his Senate role before, why should anyone believe him now?

I know you are an intelligent man, which makes me wonder why you would write something so unintelligent. And then call us Obamafascists? What's up with you tonight?
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Mirth, you are probably more at risk on this crisis than me. But, I am at risk for a whole bunch also. You put your money in a bank and they invest it in "repo certificates" which are guaranteed by Freddie and Fannie; but, ultimately, by the faith and credit of the USA. The banks pay you 3% in your money market and make 9% on the repo's. If Freddie and Fannie default on the repo's? Then your bank is under and you depend on the FDIC to reimburse you for your deposits under a hundred grand. Takes about 6 months.

Obama wants to void the mortgages which are the assets of Freddie and Fannie and let the deadbeats have the houses for free and equalize the market by buying up the worthless paper. That means that you and I will pay for both the excesses of Freddie and Fannie and also for the homes that the squatters are living in. I think things have pretty much reached the "puke point"..
  • scytherius · 1 year ago

Not only is this election over . . . it is a Dem landslide. I mean O V E R and L A N D S L I D E. This may even get the Dems 60-61 Senate seats. With this move McCain has lost everyone except a handful of screaming Republicans. Even the "I will vote for who is most presidential" crowd is now abandoning him in droves. This move was so stupid that I am amazed. I mean AMAZED. Glad . . . but . . . .the A word.

If McCain and Obama want to help in this time of need, by all means, fly to Washington. But surely the American people deserve just 2 hours of the candidates' time Friday night, especially given the limited availability of McCain and Palin the past few weeks. After the debate, they may fly back to DC. I'm sure the leaders of our country will wait and we'll all enjoy seeing this important debate. That's the beauty of the 21st century... airplanes.

Brilliant repug frame job. Now everyone is blindly pushing for the fraudulent bailout. The debate scam is a distraction, intended to short circuit the debate on whether a bailout is the correct answer. That question has been killed, we will get the bailout (Along with the shaft) without ever debating the merit. The repugs will happily accept an Obama presidency shackled to the destruction that will pour forth from Paulson's scam.
  • FloridaMom · 1 year ago
This is so typical of Bush type leadership - if you don't let me screw you in the a%$ (approve the bailout NOW) you won't get what you want (to hear the candidates debate actual issues)! What a disgrace to the process of the election season!
  • Happy_Housewife · 1 year ago
John McCain is no longer capable of being the President. Simply put, he's a weak old man who is in failing health, and knows it. He just wants this last chance at immortality. It's really quite sad, when you think about it.

Sarah Palin, on the other hand, lacks the intellectual capacity to be President, or even Vice-President. She's just being used by a cynical party, to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
  • red_dwarf · 1 year ago
Happy - well said. Exactly. McShank is literally dying; his brain is failing daily. Palin is a religious fruitcake who wouldn't make a good HS principal, much less a VP. Their only hope is another theft of the election. Let's hope we don't get another false flag before Nov.

McCain has been outmaneuvered by Obama with every move made on the chess board and today's latest 'checkmate' has caused the McCain campaign to go bezerk, knock the board to the floor and walk out in disgust at their own impotence. Can't hardly blame em.
