AMERICAblog: CNN POLL: Biden wins 51-36

  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
I am sure we will find the number of Republicans watching were far less than the number of Democrats.
The Republicans are ashamed of her. Only the rapid right could watch that tripe coming from Palin's mouth and not want to run screaming out the door.
  • Rob Mule · 1 year ago
Biden really was really excellent...like Senator Obama a welcome approach after 8 years of snide self-righteous failure as so beautifully and scarily reborn in Mooselini tonight.
Moosie was Dick Cheney with a wink and an updo...
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
Absolutely! And don't forget the lipstick and high heels. I felt a chill go up my spine when she said that she wanted to expand the powers of the Vice President. Imagine her doing to this country...what she did to Wasilla. She left it tied up in legal battles...for a sports complex that has put the tiny town in debt to the tune of 20 million plus. She built it on land that the town did not own. In the end, the sports complex cost them a whole lot more money...than it would have...had they followed the rules. Sounds like some one we already know. George Bush and Dick Cheney did not follow the rules...look where there leadership has gotten us...deep in debt. We are fighting two wars...that we can not afford...China is providing the funds for these wars. And now, because Bush, Cheney, and MCCain do not like rules; Our economy is collapsing before our very eyes...REF: THE CURRENT 700 BILLION (PLUS) BAILOUT. MORE OF THE SAME...I THINK NOT!!!

Can someone get the legislative powers of the VP quote up and make an entry about that for Palin's and Biden's response? That seems to be a good line of attack post debate...

The way that she went from not knowing what the VP does, to inventing powers for it to do. Biden should incorporate a little dig at that in his speech (Obama should stick against McCain) that the public can't afford another VP who doesn't respect the Constitution. Respect for all Americans starts with respect for the Constitution and the rules and separation of powers defined within.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
I think you're right. This is a great talking point for both Obama and Biden.
  • YouRJustcrazy · 1 year ago
Yeah, you can get it up if you'll take the time to research the fact. By the way, Biden got that wrong too... I think he was quoting the legislative and not the executive powers.... How embarrassing he must feel about now.

Sarah Palin is a squeaky little bag of wind.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Wow, what does that make you?
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
Someone who doesn't want a squeaky little bag of wind to hold high office.
  • YouRJustcrazy · 1 year ago
Me either, I think we need to elect a President that has no experience in well, anything. That makes more sense to me. No squeaks from him, that’s for sure. Just a man after his own goals in life.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Look, she's a stupid woman from Alaska. Give her a little creak to slide out the door and go home. If you keep beating up on her? It only increases the value of her portfolio......
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
This isn't about Palin, Busboy. It's all about McCain, his choices, his contempt for the American people.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Then, why the debate? Does a woman really ever have a chance in a debate against a man?
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
    I think Hillary answered that.
  • Busboy · 1 year ago
Yeah, she lost bigtime; and, she was supposed to be the smartest woman in the world?
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
Hillary lost because she put her ambition before the good of America. But, don't ever think she is anything but a bright, strong, woman.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
And, to be fair: She also had a lot of crap advisors...including her husband.

If Penn had the brains to enter all the caucuses, we probably would have been seeing Hillary up there tonight.
  • Bush_Bites · 1 year ago
Well, we would have saw her up there last week---you know what I mean.
  • An_American_Karol · 1 year ago
You can't just throw any woman into a debate just like you can't throw any man. It's the "person". That's feminism.

That poll couldn't enter their newsroom fast enough. It was The Sarah Palin Discussion Group in there until the numbers came in and proved that she wasn't as wonderful as some of the talking heads tried to say she was.

I wish they would talk about how Joe Biden did for a change.

Seriously, I'm so grateful to see that some CNN watchers can see beyond the little come-hither shrug/nose-wrinkle stuff... *oh* so appropriate for discussion of war and nuclear weapons!

Remember folks, we heard it today...Palin wants to expand VP powers, and thinks Cheney is great.

Now if that does not spell dangerous, nothing will.

I hope the Obama camp will use those words in an ad.

The VP Debate: The Strangest I've Ever Seen

Exactly an hour into the debate, Joe Biden began an answer by saying, "Facts matter, Gwen."

To him, maybe. To Sarah Palin, maybe not. The pattern, so far, has been one of Biden presenting facts and Palin countering with… saying stuff.

Wondering if anyone else noticed this: When asked how they would govern if their respective presidential candidates were to die in office, Biden looked serious and grave while Palin couldn't suppress her beaming smile. She was clearly trying to wipe off the smile, but try as she might, she couldn't quite banish it to the land of wind and ghosts where it belonged.
  • Dave of the Jungle · 1 year ago
    Squeaky little bag of wind.

Biden did his job and kept the focus on the failed McBush policies. No "game changer" for McCain here. Palin did not give McCain any bump and in fact Biden probably helped the Obama vote tonight with his solid, civil, but tough performance.

This'll date me, but this debate reminded me of an old (1966) Andy Griffith show where Aunt Bee ran against Howard Sprague for town councilman. In their debate, Bee relied on cutsie phrases, stock platitudes and empty rhetoric like, "My answer is, if the people want it, we'll do it!"

Howard, on the other hand, trotted out hard facts, numbers and research showing specifically how certain projects would be accomplished, even under budget. (Bee clued in and dropped out-would that Palin had that kinda sense...don'cha know...) Basically, the Palin-Biden debate was an Andy Griffith rerun...

Tonight, Gov. Sarah Palin proved that she is a skilled and consistent POLITICIAN: She absolutely refused to answer the questions. She did something that "career" politicians have never done before: She made it clear that she had no intention of answering the questions...And she did not answer the questions. All she did was fill up her time with memorized statements from their campaign. She did more to build up herself and Alaska, than she did to defend John MCCain. She never told us how John MCCain was different from George Bush. Her sarcasm and disrespect for Joe Biden, who was very respectful towards her; made her look very petty and immature. She did what John MCCain does...she went for the SOPHOMORIC RHETORICAL JABS. This not the behavior of a mature statesman/statesperson. She acted out in the exact way that her fellow Alaskans have said that she does towards anyone that she deems to be an enemy. If they were to win the White House...is this the way that they are going to treat our Allies and countries that we are trying to negotiate with. Are they going to refuse to look at them...or make petty snide remarks...and roll their eyes...during DIPLOMATIC TALKS??? We should all be very afraid of these two ever becoming President and Vice President.

  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
Typical Republican response. You do not have anything intelligent to say...so you go for the personal attack. My feelings are not hurt in the least. You have just exposed your level of intelligence...lack of intelligence. Try to get on the topic. If you do not have anything of worthy; or of substance: Do not be surprised if no one is willing to converse with you.
  • jean95404 · 1 year ago
Gov. Palin did better than I expected, though I am sure she was drilled solidly on the answers. Her repeated use of foreign leaders names I guess was intended to show that she is knowledgeable and comfortable talking about foreign affairs. Her continued refusal to answer the specific questions put to her made me actually want her to answer...why wouldn't/couldn/t she? Even her little winks and speech pattern made me think that the handlers repeatedly told her to "be yourself", "get folksy".

I was leaning towards John McCain in this election, first time to vote for a Republican. But if choosing someone of Sarah Palin's limited experience is indicative of the type of decisions he would make as President, my feelings have substantially changed. Also, if the election committee thought that by selecting a woman (oh, any woman will do, just get one), that's a slap in the face to women AND men. It's like saying that the reason people supported Hillary Clinton was just because she was a woman, her policies and experience and involvement in government both foreign and domestic had no bearing. The McCain committee seems to be of the opinion Hillarry was getting votes just because she was a woman. What's that old line, "With a bag over their head they're all alike." How very commendable, and predictable of old line Republican men.

But wait, I do not want to leave out Obama/Biden. I do not feel that a man who would align himself in friendship and religion for twenty years with a minister who so scorned the United States would not have know that minister's feelings. I question that perhaps Barack Obama felt/feels somewhat atune to those feelings. I hope I am wrong. Joe Biden, demonstrated graciousness tonight toward Sarah Palin. High marks for that because I think he could have levelled her with little effort. He took the high road. But this is a seasoned politician and aren't we wanting, needing, change?

So, during the next four years how about those of us moderates getting together and developing a group of Americans that want to take back America for Americans? Rip it right out of the hands of lobbyists and special interest groups and let them know we are foreclosing on them and taking the House (and Senate) back. Oh yeah, by the way, the President now works for America, not for big business contributors. Let's put an end to these stupid red states and blue states. Let's be what we used to be really good at being, The United States of America for ALL Americans!

P.S. By the way John, please drop the use of tired, tired, tired term of Maverick. Good lord man, give it up please! No one is buying it anymore.
  • YouRJustcrazy · 1 year ago
I agree about the Maverick term, It's starting to sound a lot like "Change, Change, Change". ...Biden has been in there since the Calvary road on horse back, Now all of a sudden he's for change? Dang, he's had long enough to change hasn't he?
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
Joseph Biden did bring CHANGE! He wrote the policy and law that gave women the power and the right to prosecute their abusers. Prior to what Joe Biden did for women...domestic abuse was considered "A PRIVATE MATTER"! A person or a business that had been robbed...without violence...had more legal rights and power than a woman who had been put into a coma by her husband. That is what Joe Biden did for women. Included in the policy is that the cities and the states are to pay for the rape kits as a part of their investigations. In the past some cities and states charged the victims. Some still do. Some do not take crimes against women seriously.

When Sarah Palin was mayor of Wasilla, her budget would not allow for the city of Wasilla to pay for the rape kits that were needed in the investigation of crimes. Even though her police chief acted as her mouthpiece...as she stated tonight..."...there were things that she wanted to zero out in her budgets...but she faced resistance on both sides of the aisle...." This is a matter of record. This was a major battle with the state legislature of Alaska and the city of Wasilla. The OFFICIALS at the state level of Alaska...said that they got more resistance from Wasilla, than from any other city in Alaska. Please Note: Those kits provide the morning after pill...to prevent pregnancy. Sarah is adamantly against any typeof abortion. It does not matter if the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest. She believes that the woman or the girl should be forced to carry to term...get counseling...and then if she chooses; give the child up for adoption. Please Note: The Mayor sets the city budget; the appointed officials are responsible for meeting that budget. All of this is on the record. You can even check the Alaska Daily News or the Fairbanks Newsminer...they have been carrying this story.
  • sabina19 · 1 year ago
Between Biden's Botox injections and Palin's winking, I was left wondering: am I watching A Vice-Presidential debate or a beauty pageant!

I give it to Biden because he continuously focused on the issues and the record which is what gives us an idea of what we can expect from both parties post-Nov. 4. Palin's repeating of "Maverick", "Hockey/Soccer Mom", and every other cliche in the book is starting to annoy me. But maybe it's working on the rest of the country, that wouldn't shock me at all.
  • alaskan1 · 1 year ago
Can anyone tell me why Palin has a slight southern accent? I moved to Alaska in 1976 from Savannah, GA, and I don't have a southern accent. I don't know any Alaskan's who speak with Palin's particular colloqulisms. Sorry if I misspelled that, but I find it one of the more strange things about this woman, who, by the way, is not nearly as popular in Alaska as you may have been led to believe. Remember that 1/2 of the entire state's population resides in one city - Anchorage. Anchorage is full of oil industry people. Has anyone polled the other half of Alaska? Anchorage is the only major city (no offense Fairbanks).
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
Actually, she was attempting to identify with the northwestern region of the United States...dontcha know. Betcha didn't know that.
The MCCain/Palin ticket was trying to capture the VOTES of Minnesotans...and the people of that region. They felt that they were secure with the south. Asof this weekend, they are losing key areas of the south. They are struggling in the northwest.
One thing, I can say: Now, Alaskans know the truth of -WHO- Sarah Palin really is. She no longer has the power to bully and manipulate Alaskans...the way that she has in the past. Her selection has actually done the state of Alaska a huge favor.
    YOUR WELCOME!
  • YouRJustcrazy · 1 year ago
What part of the key south states are you talking about? Where are you getting those facts? Thank you.
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
The national polls. I thought you said that you do you your home work. John MCCain was focusing on the states that George Bush and other Republicans had won in the past. All of this is on the record. You can check it out for yourself. For the past thirty years, there are key states in the south that have traditionally voted Republican. They are now turnig from Red States to Blue States...they are voting for Barack Obama. This is based on registered voters...who have declared who they intend to vote for. Check out www.fivethirtyeight.com: They track all of the polls in the country. It does not matter who sponsors the polls...left...right...independent...libertarian...etc.. (I would think that some one like you - who is in to doing "detailed" research would know this.)
  • YouRJustcrazy · 1 year ago
Yeah, I do my research, I'm surprised you can't find the 10 facts where Biden was just flat out wrong tonight... I understand. Because I too, would think someone like - you would look into that.... Guess too much work.... Go ahead....what else you got to say?
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
I am not going to go down this road with you. "The 10 facts..." are strictly your opinion. Debating you on your opinion would be a waste of my time. You did not comment on the FACT that Sarah Palin said that she was not going to answer the questions...and she did not. That is very telling. That is exactly the way that George Bush and Dick Cheney have acted for the past EIGHT years...and now, Sarah is following in their footsteps. More of the same.
  • YouRJustcrazy · 1 year ago
NO, the 10 facts are not my opinion. It is a matter of public record. Do the work. You got all the answer for everything else. Do it.
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
I understand why you are so angry. I see from your posts: You ar picking a fight with everyone on this site. Picking fights is not the way to win friends and persuade people to your side. It is that very attitude that has turned so many people off of John MCCain. His eractic behavior is why so many people of his own party are turning away from him. He is too VOLATILE. Sarah Palin...according to those who know her best...say that she keeps a GRUDGE LIST. Please Note: Sarcasm and Sophmoric Jabs are evidence of Passive/Aggressive Anger. This is the type of behavior demonstrated by both John and Sarah. When people do not have SUBSTANCE...and know that they are losing...they go on the attack...they become hostile; petty; sarcastice and sophmoric. They did this for all of the world to see. This is exactly the way that George Bush and Dick Cheney behaved...in public...whenever they had to deal with some one that they did not like. We do not need more of the same.
  • YouRJustcrazy · 1 year ago
Ok, here is another one for you... I just love your spin of what you think you know about me... Not angry.. my point from the very first was people let media tell them what to do. Here's another fact:
PALIN: "Barack Obama even supported increasing taxes as late as last year for those families making only $42,000 a year."

BIDEN: "The charge is absolutely not true. Barack Obama did not vote to raise taxes. The vote she's referring to, John McCain voted the exact same way."

THE FACTS: The vote was on a nonbinding budget resolution that assumed that President Bush's tax cuts would expire, as scheduled, in 2011. If that actually happened, it could mean higher taxes for people making as little as about $42,000. But Obama is proposing tax increases only on the wealthy, and would cut taxes for most others. In the March 14 budget resolution supported by Obama and Biden, McCain actually did not vote.

So you see... people take the word of who ever they support as the gospel.

How could MAC have voted for the same as Biden stated, when he didn't vote at all. That's my point.
BTW... I'm not a Sarah Palin supporter....
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
Your tone and your words demonstrate to me that you are...at this moment...very angry.... For some one who is not a Sarah Palin supporter; then why are you defending her?
  • YouRJustcrazy · 1 year ago
Why are you defending anyone that misleads? My point again.. I'm sick of all the government and all the people that buy into what ever they say.... I'm only angry at our broken system and no matter who wins the election, it's not going to change one thing that will break us free from this slavery to government. We're not as different as you may think I would guess.
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
Actually, we are very different. Your anger and rage is only wasted energy. It is not productive. It really comes across in your blogs. I am old enough to know that this state of mind blocks critical thinking. People who allow their angry to control them; lose control of the mind; eventually, they lose control of their body...and do somethings that they end up regretting. Tonight, you have done that over and over again. Four years from now, no one will remember the issues that you brought up. No one will ever forget Sarah Palin stating that she had no intent of answering the questions: And then, she did not. She decided to pick her own topics. This is a big deal. That is what you have missed. No one in the history has ever made a statement like that...and then followed through. She spent the night giving her stump speech. (People are going to laugh about this for years.)
  • YouRJustcrazy · 1 year ago
Well, Ok... you win... I give in.. I'll just resign to the fact that you'll be lead just like most of everyone else into false security by your government. It's a lost cause. I'll catch you in another 4 years and see if what I'm saying about government looking just the same holds up. I don't know why you keep bringing up Sarah. I'm talking about the system and you keep talking about the girl... go figure.
As a side note, not sure if your name reflects Lynn Swann,-88 if so.. I tip my hat... he was one of the best.

    Hope the best for you.
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
I am not secure in the government. I recognize it for what it is...that is why I do not become enraged. We have good leaders who are flawed...and we have horrible leaders who are convinced that they are infallible. I weigh the positive against the negatives. No one is perfect. I choose the lesser of imperfect ones. I have serious issue with leaders who do not respect the laws of the land. John MCCain has a very long track record of breaking the rules. That mindset has defined his life. He stated that he never followed orders when he was in the military. He stated that that is why he was shot down...and crashed five fighter planes. I was in the Military. I know the UCMJ. The only reason that John MCCain did not get court martialed for the "first" crash...or the subsequent ones is because of his father and his grandfather. If you check the history of the military, you will see that GI's have been court martialed for far less. I was stationed with a young officer, who had a number of DUI's. He even crashed the securtiy guard's protective shed...coming through the gate.... And absolutely nothing happened to him. We were overseas. In a foreign country. Every month he was in trouble for alcohol related incidents. The only reason he was not court martialed...like John MCCain...he came from a long line of military commanders. One thing I can say: He served the two lowest ranks for officers...longer than anyone in military history.
This is how I choose my leaders. I base my decision on their own words and their actions...their respect or lack of respect for their fellow man. Rules are put in place for those who do not "freely and willingly" respect others...no matter what their position. In the military: Rules are put in place to protect everyone...not just from each other...but from the enemy. That is a lesson that John MCCain has not learned. Tonight Sarah Palin made it very clear that she is cut from the same cloth. As stated before: Bush and Cheney are of the exact same mindset.
  • YouRJustcrazy · 1 year ago
From the Windy City? Well that tells me why you support Obama. Why is it that I've asked you several times about the facts and you still are stating it's an opinion? It's well known that liberals cannot win any argument when facts are used. You keep proven it here. If you base your decision on what people say, then you really do need to spend some time looking at the facts. I am retired military myself. So, no need to explain the military.
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
Are you totally clueless...or what? I told you: Debating with you would be a waste of my time. Just because you were in the military does not mean that you KNOW the UCMJ. Unless,of course; you worked in personnel or in admin...I did. We processed Article 15's; Control Rosters; Separations; Retirements;etc.. So, I know what I am talking about.

Please Note: You really need to PROOF-READ your comments. "You keep proven it here" does not makeany sense. "If you base your decision on what people say, then you really do need to spend some time looking at the facts.": Really??? That does not make any sense. When Sarah Palin or John MCCain makes a speech; should I/We - NOT - make a decision about them - based upon what they say??? Should all of us completely ignore: What they say....based upon your comment??? Get the point? It is quite obvious that you have a problem with basic logic; and you have great difficulty communicating.

Your party...the Republican Party...is both Imploding and Exploding all at the same time. Your leaders...who are running for re-election...and some that are new to the game: DO NOT WANT THE WORD "REPUBLICAN" ON THEIR SIGNS...OR THEIR ADVERTISEMENT. It seems to me that it would be a better use of your time to focus on ALL of your leaders who are outraged at John MCCain for: Picking Sarah Palin...and for his Train Wreck of a Campaign. Let us not forget the mess that George Bush and Dick Cheney have made of this country. The world is hoping that WE do not elect another Republican...especially...John MCCain and Sarah Palin. Embarrassing: is only one small word; that only begins to define this duo.

Instead of trying to BULLY me and others...on this site: Take your need for giving orders - to your party - and tell your party members and leaders how to REPAIR the Republican GOP. Once you fix your party...you can come back and talk to us.

FINALLY: That is all that I have to say to you. As I suspected: You talk in circles...That is why - it would be a waste of my time to debate with you. I have spent enough time with you. GOODBYE!
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
You ask: "Why are you defending anyone that misleads?" I bet you voted for George Bush and Dick Cheney...both times. That trumps what you think of me...as defending "some one who" misleads. At no time did I choose to debate what you said about Joe Biden: Because it is your opinion...as I stated before...It would be a waste of my time to debate you on that subject. Opinions are subjective.
  • YouRJustcrazy · 1 year ago
Opinions...It came out of His own mouth. How can that be my opinion. I wasn't up there speaking on his behalf. That was his words. If I gave my opinion, then I would say it's my opinion. Someone once said that you can't debate liberals because when you state facts, they go in a tail spin because they can't win on facts. I'm finding that more true than ever.
  • alaskan1 · 1 year ago
you should check out my friends blog: www.werenotthatstupid.blogspot.com/
We really don't like Palin! I think we were on the road to impeaching (well, at least investigating, to be fair) her when the mccain camp stepped in and held hostage the investigation - as I'm sure you well know, his lawyers (and hers) advised all 7 people who were served a supoena to disregard them, and the law that hold them to it. She is a real piece of work. I don't like being in fear that she could run the country, but having all of this riped open does expose the corruption - much to the dismay of the taxpayer. This isn't how Alaskan's treat each other. We need one another to survive. I find it all very sad.
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
She has been running Alaska in the same way that Bush and Cheney have run this country. Aren't you glad that she has not had EIGHT YEARS to do to Alaska; what they did to this country? It is a good thing that she only had 20 months...this gives Alaskans a chance to take back their state before she can do further damage. I hope you guys can get Walt Monegan back as the Public Safety Commissioner. I read his bio. The people of Alaska really loved him. He has served for more than THIRTY years. I understand that he was a MARINE. Wow! What a Man! He even fought for more funds to help the women, girls...everyone in Alaska...who had been victims of sexual assault. He would make a GREAT GOVERNOR!!!
  • alaskan1 · 1 year ago
The amazing thing about his firing is that Sarah said he was defying her when he want to go to Washington to get support to help abused women... you seem pretty informed, so I'm guessing you know where I'm going with that one... are you reading our papers, too? And yes, thank you, I am glad she hasn't destroyed the trust Alaskan's have in one another... but the damage is great. Having spent most of my life here (and I'm far more worldly than is she), I am embarrassed by what she shows the public. And, it invites transients who have no business trying to survive here because they want the PFD money. It's sickening.
Well, thanks for paying attention, and trying to keep America informed of who this poser is. Sarah is only out for Sarah...

Yes, I read your local papers. I read the Alaska Daily News and the Fairbanks Newsminer the day that she was selected. I wanted to know who she was. Considering we only had about 60 days to learn about her; I was not going to trust the MCCAIN SPIN TEAM. I went to the source: Her home state. I felt that Alaskans knew her better than anyone. I am so glad that I did. After what we have had to encounter with the MCCain Team; I have to say: It does not compare to the chaos that they have caused in the Alaska capitol. There are many of us who truly feel sorry for Alaskans. Although I have to say this: I was very impressed with the Anti-Palin Rally. The signs were very creative and informative. Those signs opened the way for more research. We of the Lower 48 looked into a lot of the issues that you have had to deal with. Again, Thank You. Because of the diligience of the 2000 (plus) Alaskans; Many, Many, Many people started to look pass the "cute" wink-and-a-smile. We did not like what we found. But we are so very happy that we chose to learn more. Hopefully, this experience will teach the Repubicans that we as a nation will not allow them to repeat the history of the past EIGHT YEARS. We refuse to accept a candidate - who is not qualified or worthy of leading this nation. We deserve better than a puppet that they can control. We want and deserve a qualified candidate...candidates.

Take Care of Yourself. (I need to go to bed.)

Well, I'm on Alaska time... Native time... we do things as they need to be done... when the berries are ripe, pick them. I would like Americans to know that we have over 20 distinct indigenous languages, and cultures active here in Alaska. We are not (other than some pockets of Anchorage) what Sarah represents - some bland ideological American philosophy. (At temp's minus 60 degrees for EXTENDED periods of time, we really rely on each other.) She is such a traitor!!!!!!!! We can not rely on her for the fishing industry, oil, farming or anything!! Please note that her aerial wolf hunts do NOT serve a purpose other than pandering to big game hunters. There does not exist one single ranch in Alaska. Not one soul has lost their livelihood due to wolf predation! It is insane! Her nomination is insane. Please help us spread the word. As she herself says, we are new to this game. Most of all, please don't let these women think they are like her, or that she is like them. She is a poser. Check out the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act for insight into subsistence rights, and much more, then look into her husbands fishing business, and her BS on health insurance... All Alaska Natives get free health insurance, and the best, I might add... she herself would be the only one excluded, but that remark about needing insurance in the debate was total bull!!! At least if Todd is the native he claims to be, and if he's not, their fishing business may be in trouble!!! Jerks! Well, anyway, let me know if you have any questions.

    Peace, and sleep well,

    Laura

Palin was great. Sorry Joe, you got beat. McCain/Palin all the way!
  • Inde68 · 1 year ago
i'm curious why she was great? as an independent, i expected PLATFORMS to be discussed and debated, specifically 2 MAJOR questions on my mind. 1) what SPECIFICALLY are the candidate's plans to end the war in Iraq (after 7 years and over 4000 american lives sacrificed, we have a right to KNOW) and 2) what SPECIFICALLY are the terms of their economic proposals that will help bail me out as a middle income person.

seriously, i had my pad and pencil ready to write down the points as the moderator asked...i was GRAVELY disappointed to come away with a fairly blank sheet from Palin -the only fact/action i got was a $5000 healthcare tax credit (but i didn't feel confident that i would even qualify for it?) if she can't articulate these basic FACTS, that she should know like her own name, how can i possibly have ANY confidence in her?

Sarah Palin proved to us tonight that she was not "JOKING" when she said that she did not know what a Vice President does. Her comments about what she expects to do when she becomes Vice President proves that. I was so happy when Joe Biden outlined "exactly" what the CONSTITUTION says are the duty of the Vice President. She also proved that she did not understand the purpose of this debate. It was her opportunity to tell us why we should feel comfortable and safe having her as a Vice President...BY ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS. Because she made it clear that she had no intention of answering the questions...served only to equate her with George Bush and Dick Cheney. We do not want more of the same!

It absolutey amazes me how people would think that Biden won this debate. Excuse me! Why don' t people be honest. As far as the economy goes, you only have to look on MSNBC and CNN and look at good old Barney and Chris saying that there is "nothing" wrong with Fanny and Freddy and go on from there. People, this started it all and if you are honest in your acessment, you will agee. If not look it up yourself. The documentation is there. Frank and Dodd and the Dems blocked any legislation to oversee FM/FM from 04 on. It is and was a giant piggy bank for their greed. There is not one Republican involved in this and Dodd can sit on TV until the end of time and not change the facts that he and his "party" are at the root of this problem. Bad loans for people who could not afford them forced banks and entities to do so. I am sorry, but in our fathers and forfathers time, you had to have collateral and good credit to get loans, today everyone gets everything for free! Nothing is for free in life. Sorry, but that is the truth and that is life. Dems started this mess and now they blame Bush. While I agee he is and has not been a great president, he did and "repeatedly" asked for oversight on FM/FM and was blocked by who???.....................the Dems Why??? Money! This is not refutable and can not be argued against.

Tonight, 10 things that Biden said were flat out wrong that cannot be argued. Now, let's see how involved you are for finding out the real facts. How serious of a voter are you? Do your home work and not let any media tell you what you heard and didn't hear. Now is your chance to prove you are smart enough to vote. It’s a privilege to vote, not a right. I wish we had to take a test, to prove we are involved with really finding out the truth before allowed to vote. When the transcripts come out, make a copy and check the facts of both candidates. The obvious and easy one to search for is voting record. Biden stated MAC along with Obama, voted for a tax increase for people making 42k+ per year. Did MAC really vote for that? Research it for yourself. I don’t agree with Palin giving the VP more authority, but what article of the Constitution did Biden state that prohibited that? Did he get the correct one? He’s been at it for 30+ years, he should know. Look it up. You’ll be amazed. Was he right or wrong? If nothing else comes of this from you, I just want you to not be pushed by public opinion, color, creed, background or anything else that may be shallow. Take care of yourself and find out the real truth about whom ever you vote for. We deserve a better system than what we have. You and I work too hard for our families to just give in and end up giving it all back to government. I don’t know what the answer is, but I’m just sick of the whole scary mess. Thanks for reading.

The media did not tell us that Sarah Palin was NOT going to answer the questions...she did. She said...point blank that she had no intention of answering the questions....and she did not. Anyone who has heard her speak more than two times...could recognize all of her talkig points. We have heard all of her "talking points" ...so much...we know them as well as she does. John MCCain out of his own mouth stated...over and over again...that he is a "deregualtor". Deregulations gave us lead in toys...and lending laws that are worse than the loansharks that once dominated neighborhoods. Oh! I forgot. Loansharks have been legalized...they call them payday loans. When the lending laws were strict and enforced: Loansharks were prosecuted. Please note: John MCCain was one of the KEATING FIVE!

When did George Stephanopoulos become commander-in-chief of all US political commentary?
Prior to joining ABC News, he was a senior political campaign adviser to Clinton and later became his communications director.
Could there be anyone more far left?? I about fell off my chair when he said Biden won (which should NOT have surprised me).
Let's look at George's scorecard for the debate:
    Strategy: Biden A, Palin A-
    Style: Biden A-, Palin A
    Accuracy: Biden B, Palin B

I'm a math teacher, and the numbers just aren't adding up, Mr. Stephanopoulos.
If I had 2 students with these grades, the report cards would be even. How in the world did Biden get a "win"???
Apparently the liberal media uses different calculators than teachers do.
Personally, I think Sarah won, but that's aside. It was NO LESS than a tie.
And if a flaming liberal gives EQUAL overall scores to Biden and Palin, there's only one thing to conclude: Sarah won.

We'll also see that CNN "suggests" that Biden won. Read on.
They say 51% of voters said Biden did better, BUT they say their survey is not a measurement of the views of all Americans, since only people who watched the debate were questioned. More Democrats than Republicans watch the debates (they said so last "poll", and there were well-organized Obama Debate Watch "parties" all over the country). What does it say if more Democrats than Republicans were surveyed, and only 51% of those surveyed said Biden did better? Sad.

Palin was eloquent, confident, strong and enthusiastic (and all this after a week of incessant attacks by the liberal media). She addressed the people of this country throughout the debate by looking at us. (Biden addressed the moderator). When she spoke to Biden, she faced him. Interestingly, those were repeatedly touted as Obama's strengths last week, but barely mentioned when Sarah did the same this evening.

Still, tomorrow morning we'll see newspapers selectively quoting George and CNN to "prove" Biden won. Fortunately, some will have enough intelligence to see through all that (newspapers, after all, are a big part of the liberal media). UNFORTUNATELY, some will be naive enough to believe that if something is in print, or said on TV, it must be true. Again, sad. We need divine intervention. Oh, wait, we must be careful, since Obama said "this is no longer a Christian nation".

Palin can't even pronounce nuclear. But, neither can George W. Bush. Oh, that's right America voted for him twice. Wake up people!

Hello, Chi-town. Welcome to the Party. I am from the WINDY CITY. It is so nice to have some one from my home town on here. CAUTION: Blogger "YouRJustcrazy" is very angry. Do not let that Blogger pull you into an argument to "NOWHERE".
So, did you enjoy the debate? Where you able to quote Sarah Palin's "talking points" as she used them to substitute for answering the questions? I did. I was amazed at how well I had memorized them. Given the fact that she has repeated them as much as John MCCain has told his POW story...We should all know her entire key phrases from her stump speeches.
How about you - "chicagofinest"? Do you have them memorized?
  • chicagosfinest · 1 year ago
Absolutely, her empty "answers" and smug demeanor is a testiment to John McCain's judgement or lack there of.
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
The day that John MCCain made the announcement; I went on the Internet and researched her via the Alaska Daily News and the Fairbanks Newsminer. I fell out laughing. I knew that his selection was going to provide a lot of material for the late night comics; It has. Everyday has been a laugh riot. It feels like we are all living in a Saturday Night Live Sketch.
  • chicagosfinest · 1 year ago
I never really worried about her and now I'm not worried about McCain. Obama has much more integrity and brains than McCain. The same is true about Palin and Biden. Sarah Palin is a bubble brain (I'm female and she's an embarassment) and McCain is insane in the membrane.

I've always been a democrat, however I HAD a lot of respect for McCain (2000). But, now I can't stomach is lies and hypocrisy.

I am also a female. Why do Republicans keep choosing people who are just like those in rural america. I was born in rural america. I do not want some one who is just like me. I want some one who is smarter than I am. I want some one who can read the Law Books; Court Records; Briefs; etc.; and understand the premise of difficult documents. I am pretty intelligent. Please Note: I do not want some one who gives me a headache when I try to make sense of their babbling nonsense. I saw Katie Couric glazing over during those interviews. It is more difficult to read the transcripts than it is to listen to her. She just goes on and on...about nothing...in circles. She is truly scary. Tina Fey nailed her...she had it perfectly parodied...word for word. Because we knew that it was all word for word gave us the permission to laugh at was initially: TRAGIC. THANK YOU SNL!

People tend to like other people like themselves. And, that okay for everyday people. To obtain the highest office in the land; one must bring a certain level of integrity and intelligence to the office. Bill Clinton, Al Gore and even LBJ were from the South, but what they all had in common that the McCain/Palin ticket lacks is a brain even if its shared between the two of them.

Going to volunteer at headquarters in the morning - going to bed now. I will look for you tomorrow. I enjoyed our conversation.

Thanks John! My response about the debate..

I wasn't impressed with Palin. She talked about what she knew about and stayed away from things she didn't know. The reason she had trouble in the interviews, is because she was asked about subjects she didn't know anything about. The corny smile and folksy lingo was nauseating.

We are in a 700 billion dollar hole and she was out there smiling and winking?
She came across as a caricature of herself. It didn't feel authentic. You'd have to ice water running through your veins to not show some kind of compassion to another human being, who is overcome with grie Here's a woman who basically said I'm not going to answer the moderators questions the way "she'd" like me to answer them. Which means she doesn't play by the rules. That's why there's troopergate. Then she says she wants to expand the VP powers. HELL NO!
It's not always about the shinny fast car. It's about the reliable, dependable, mini Van that will get you from point A to point B. Fast cars eventually crash and burn.
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
AMEN!!! Absolutely brilliant!! Can you imagine her with more powers.... I shudder to even go there...in my mind!
  • harley08 · 1 year ago
I am now voting for McCain/Palin ticket. I was an independent initially leaning towards McCain but after all the economic worries I started leaning Obama, but after tonights VP I now strongly lean McCain..I hope they win..Sarah is strong and she stands up for what she believes in, and she make that known even if it doesn't give an extra votes like gay marriage. She doesn't just say something so she can get votes she says coz she means it. I admire her for that..It takes a lot of guts to stand up for something that's right especially in these times when being bad is popular and encouraged. She's true to her roots and I'm proud of her..She will do great things for this country and take this country back to God..so many people have sooo turned away from HIM, but Sarah is a breath of fresh air...As VP she will make sure that GOD remains the center of her life and in america's life, which is how this great country is founded from.
  • Inde68 · 1 year ago
    Harley,

I have to respond because of your reference to "GOD" and what this "great country is founded from". I would refer you to OUR doctrine of Democracy - The United States Constitution- and 2 clauses that specify the SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE:
    1) the establishment clause which prevents the government from establishing a national religion, providing tax money in support of religion, or otherwise favoring any single religion OR RELIGION IN GENERAL and
    2) the free exercise clause, that ensures that private religious practices are not restricted by the government.

Together, they represent the "separation of church and state" -any direct connection between religious and governmental institutions and the protection of private religious freedom and autonomy.

To preserve Democracy, we MUST keep this ISSUE out of the WHITE HOUSE and in PEOPLE'S HOMES/RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES, where it belongs, regardless of your party affiliation.

I have been a registered republican for the past 38 years, and if this is all that the republican party have to offer in 2008, it is time for me to seek some change. If this is the future for our country, ( FORGETABOUTIT ) we are going on that BRIDGE TO NOWHERE
  • alaskan1 · 1 year ago
What? Harley, please, as an Alaskan, I ask you to reevaluate your position. Sarah is only out for herself. I've lived here for 33 years, I know who this woman is. This is not the right vote. I understand your position, and your values - I'm close to the same age as Sarah, I have two elementary age children, I have a degree in Journalism from UAA (Alaska). I am the co-chair of the Steering Committee (our schools' equilivant of the PTA), and I would be grateful for the chance to convince you that she is not the right choice.
  • alaskan1 · 1 year ago
Are you willing to discuss, as I don't see the point in trying to push my opinion on you?
  • alaskan1 · 1 year ago
well, I guess you don't want to discuss Sarah, so let me do what the rest of America seems so apt to do... give you my own thoughts. Or facts. Many of you are likely unaware that Alaska has over 20 distinct indiginous languages, as well as cultures here. We are not like you. Sarah is an anomoly. And though Anchorage, with Alaska's largest population, is the hub of activity, it does not represent all of Alaska. With our long winters - and temp's holding at minus 20 degrees and more for very extended periods of time, we rely on each other. I think this is something the rest of America has lost, and for reasons unbeknownst to me, Sarah (the traitor), is forgetting, too. Corporations - like WalMart and McDonalds did not exist in Alaska when Sarah and I were in high school (I went to a rival school, but at the same time). She has been very quick to buy into this "philosophy" of Americanism, and I question it. American's should know that when Gretta Van S.... came here, she only glimpsed a tiny sliver of our land. Alaska is more than twice the size of Texas. We have more coast line than the rest of the entire US, and we represent many, many cultures that are too quiet to speak out against this "pit bull". We don't want your economics, your policies, or Sarah Palin! Hang her up, America. I think we may just impeach her for her abuse of power in the troopergate scandal. Alaskan's rely on each other due to our extremes... Sarah is unreliable. We can not count on her, and we don't want her back!
  • Max80 · 1 year ago
alaskan1: you are an Obama supporter. Why should we believe you regarding Sarah Palin when you clearly desire to see Obama elected and therefore want to discredit McCain and his VP running mate? Your website is clearly partisan as are your attacks. Is your, or your friend's organization the source of the untrue rumours about the governor and her personal life? Are your friends the ones who have been attacking her religion? Does all of this perhaps relate back to an adolescent "rivalry"? From what I know of "Troopergate" there was no abuse of power.
I saw in an earlier post that you made a remark about Sarah having a hint of a Southern accent. Wrong! I have lived in the South all my life and no one sounds like Sarah unless they moved here from the midwest. Tell me this. Why does Obama sound more and more Black the closer Election Day gets?
I have defended the people of your beautiful state to a lot of those who attack Sarah because she hasn't been mayor or governor of a highly populated city or state. Folks like you who have their own liberal agenda will not spoil my favorable view of your state.
I have a strong feeling you will get your wish, you won't have Sarah for governor much longer.
  • 88SWAN88 · 1 year ago
AAAAAANNNNNNDDDDDD........?????? YOUR POINT? I find it interesting that both Incumbent and potential candidates do not want to be identified as REPUBLICANS. The RNC Leaders and John MCCain would not even allow any signs to be displayed during their convention that had the word REPUBLICAN on them. Apparently, Republicans now view their OWN identity as Republicans to be a VERY BAD thing. Now, that is funny. While you are focusing on things that do not make any sense...whatsoever....wasting space on this blog...you should go spend time on Republican BLOGS; and try to find some way to help your party get their act together. They need it. Even Republican Leaders are embarrassed by John MCCain's pick of Gov. Sarah Palin. They are also embarrassed by his: TRAIN WRECK OF A CAMPAIGN. For that reason, the rest of the world is laughing at the Republicans. Your party is both imploding and exploding...all at the same time. So, focus on that...you can not afford to attack anyone for supporting the Obama/Biden ticket. Everyone...including Republican Leaders...is a applauding the way that Barack Obama has run his campaing. He has shown that he is both disciplined and structured. Please Note: There are people who proudly declare themselves as - OBAMACANS - REPUBLICANS FOR OBAMA. That is very telling.

The woman can smile and talk at the same time. Swell. I'm impressed.

But - She is totally incapable of giving a specific example of anything. This is why when asked a simple question like what media do you read, she could not give a simple example. She is the master of the generality.
  • doctorgs94 · 1 year ago
Palin rambled on with memorized answers and is a good actress (if nothing else) but failed to adress specific questions. In face to face interviews, she can't get away with this but the moderator didn't press her to answer specific questions. She let her ramble with memorized line and she does OK in this format. However, she is not qualified to be president should grandpa McCain check out! Biden is qualified to be president...maybe he isn't the best on camera but I could rest at night with him in the oval office using sound judgement.
  • alaskan1 · 1 year ago
Max, I'm trying to explain some things, that I feel many have failed to see - and without the heat and anger that most of you seem to posess. I've asked if this is open for discussion, as I'm not inclined to shove my opinion down anyone's throat. I respect your views as well as those of others. I'm just asking if you're willing to have an open enough mind to see the real truth. I am not Sarah's "rival". I assure you. My friend's blog is intended to show just what Sarah and the McCain camp are doing to our great state. Alaskan's are not like the rest of the world, and I feel Sarah is a traitor. You should understand what the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act is, and how and why it was implemented. You should know we have over 20 indigenous languages spoken here. Our Tribes have not been overrun by the government, yet, and I'd like to keep it that way. With McCain's ties to gambling, and Sarah's to the Native Corporations (businesses formed by Native's - and yes, it's okay to use that word here), we are at risk to become more of the disaster that the rest of the country has become. Sarah, despite her blind ambition, is really a pawn. I feel sorry for her because she doen't realize that she is out of her league. And yes, that weird way of talking is an affectation. We don't talk like that. I spent my first 8 years growing up in Florida and Georgia before moving here, I'm well aware of what a southern accent is, and so I didn't mean to offend you by suggesting that is what Sarah has, I just think it's weird.
